If you missed the webinar on Sunday, August 21, 2016, we were joined by Tea Party Patriots and Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund (TPPCF) general counsel, Cleta Mitchell to discuss the hit piece that was put out by Politico on Sunday, August 14, 2016.  The piece included erroneous information about Tea Party Patriots and Jenny Beth Martin by citing false information from a 2014 Washington Post hit piece. In the past we have done our best to refute these types of claims by going to the editors of these major publications and trying to tell our side of the story and we have learned that simply doing that isn’t enough.  This time we are likely going to file suit against Politico and/or the author of the piece for equating Tea Party Patriots with a number of scam-PACs that do nothing but raise money to generate business for vendors in which the PAC operators have personal interests.  Because we are exploring the possibility of filing suit, we have to be careful what we put out there publicly so that we do not compromise our ability to fight this through the legal system. For now, the information in this email is the extent of what we are able to put out publicly.  And one very important piece to understand, since these hit pieces began targeting us in 2014, it has severely hurt our ability to raise money to help local groups. You’ll remember in 2010 and 2012 that we were able to offer grants to local groups to help GOTV efforts, but after the hit piece in 2014 that particular donor decided not to give again. There are many other examples of where it has hurt our ability to raise funds, but that is one of the biggest examples. It is important that we push back on this so that we are able to raise the money we need to effectively support the local groups.  Finally, anything that you can do to help us push back on this would be appreciated. Do you have a testimony of a time your group benefited from resources, toolkits, support, in-person visits, phone calls, etc. from TPP or TPPCF?
