Guns For Self-Defense Isn’t Just For Two-Legged Predators.
6/19/18 by Tom Knighton
One of the favorite statistics for gun control advocates trying to counter the idea of good men with guns saving lives is the number of people killed in self-defense shootings. The number is fairly low, and they are trying to use it to argue that yes, gun control will save more lives than it will cost.
But they’re wrong. For one thing, they fail to account for those who are simply wounded or who stop their criminal acts when a firearm is presented. For another, self-defense doesn’t just mean defending yourself against two-legged predators.
A pit bull attacked a teenage girl Thursday in Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood, forcing a neighbor to shoot the dog, according to police.
The 15-year-old girl had just arrived at the home to visit a friend, when the 17-year-old friend opened the door, the dog rushed out and attacked the first.
George said the owner began screaming for help, and a neighbor rushed to the home and shot the dog, which was on top of and mauling the 15-year-old.
She said the neighbor was forced to shoot the dog to stop the attack and protect the teen. The dog died at the scene.- DUH
We don’t know the whole story as to what may have led up to the attack.
We do know that the girl would have been even more seriously injured, if not killed, had an armed citizen not acted to protect the girl.
This act of defending another human being won’t show up in the anti-gun statistics. It won’t show up as a self-defense homicide. It probably won’t show up in any crime statistic out there.
But it happened, and a young girl is here today that might not have been otherwise.
When we talk about guns saving lives, we’re not limiting it to any one particular act. We’re not saying they just stop murders, for example. We’re saying they save lives. They’re tools that we can use to stop any number of attacks from any number of predators, be they two- or four-legged. We tend to focus on the two-legged predators because they tend to be smarter, more cunning, but four-legged ones–even man’s best friend–can also be a real threat as well.
Again, this gets lost in an anti-gunner’s mind. They ignore it. They pretend that it just doesn’t happen or that somehow attacks like this will be ended without shooting the animal. I don’t understand that stupid thinking either!
Then again, none of their arguments make a whole lot of sense!
I'm glad the girl is alright. I hope she can leave this incident behind her as much as possible.

NRA ‘For Women By Women’ Training Registration Open.
6/21/18 by Tom Knighton
For better or worse, some women aren’t comfortable training with male shooting instructors. This is especially true when someone is first starting out as a shooter.
Men and women sometimes have different approaches to problems, which may make some women more likely to want to gravitate toward a female for instruction.
Plus, sometimes even experienced women shooters want some time with other women who share their interest in firearms.
There are a lot of reasons a woman might prefer to be in the company of women for a short time.
For those ladies, there’s some good news. The NRA’s “For Women By Women” Rifle Instructor Training registration is now open.
Registration is open for NRA’s “For Women By Women” Rifle Instructor Training Course, scheduled for Aug 10-12, 2018, at NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia!
The course, taught by experienced NRA Certified Instructor and Lead Women’s Program Training Coordinator Diane Danielson, will provide the instruction and training necessary to earn NRA Certified Instructor credentials in the Rifle discipline.
Designed by a female NRA instructor exclusively for women and taught in a women-only class, this course provides a comfortable environment for women looking to take the next step in their firearm instructor careers in a curriculum catered to their specific needs.
Completion of the NRA Basic Rifle Course is required prior to the start of the class.
Find an NRA Basic Rifle Course near you by clicking and searching here.
https://www.nrainstructors.org/search.aspx
As a bonus, those who take the course will also receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety Instructor training and certification free of charge.
I’m not going to go into more pontification on why women need a course all to themselves. Frankly, it doesn’t matter.
What matters is that as more women become shooters, the more they become instructors. If that happens to be women-only training, so be it.
Frankly, I don’t care, though I suspect someone will get all bent out of shape because they figure male-only training would get lambasted.
The thing is, none of that matters.
What matters is more people being trained, more people learning how to train others, and more people with certifications that can help make them part of the new face of gun ownership in America.
If you’re a woman who is remotely interested in something like this, I want to encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
Learn, then teach others! Expand your knowledge and then share that knowledge.
The more people know, the more gun owners know, the better off we all are.
While the NRA’s basic courses are pretty basic, It's still training that many people desperately need. So give it a shot!

Previously Deported Illegal Alien Accused of Raping Deaf Woman at Gunpoint...in 1996.
6/22/18 Timothy Meads
If ever there were a story to highlight the need for better border security as well as local and federal law enforcement coordination, it is that of previously deported illegal alien Jose Abarca.
Abarca, a Mexican national, has been sitting in jail since April 3rd, 2018 after Montgomery Country, MD police arrested the man during a routine traffic stop. After pulling over Abarca, police officers took the man’s information and ran it through their system. As his past offenses popped up on their computers, authorities realized they were not dealing with a simple speeding violation but were actually face to face with a convicted drug dealer and an alleged rapist, according to WJLA ABC7.
Abarca’s trouble with law enforcement began in January of 2008 after Montgomery County police conducted a drug bust that resulted in “$24,000 in U.S. currency, $7,700 in mexican pesos, 15 grams of cocaine, three cell phones, a tally sheet, cutting device and sandwich baggies” being retrieved from Abarca’s mobile home in Germantown, MD.
The illegal alien plead guilty, but not before his attorney attempted to argue that his client was simply forced into selling drugs because of the economic effects of the Great Recession as well as his drug addiction.
“The construction starts tanking because the building and real estate industry starts tanking...My client is not a huge or major player in the cocaine industry. It was mostly selling and violating — actually — the number one rule of drug dealing, getting high on your own supply,” attorney Frank Trock said.
“He has an addiction. It’s an illness. It’s a horrible illness. I believe he’s certainly savable, your honor. He’s been here for years. There is no prior record. This is not a man who violates the law constantly,” Trock added, claiming that Abarca was addicted to drugs.
The court disagreed and placed Abarca in jail. On March 9th, 2009, Immigration and Customs Enforcement sent him back to Mexico.
But, just 10 days after his deportation, Montgomery authorities reported that Abarca's DNA matched with evidence from the crime scene of a 1996 rape.
In 1996, a deaf woman was visiting her friend and attending a fair at Galludet University in Washington, DC. On her second night at her friend's house, she "fell asleep on a sofa in her friend's back sunroom. It was around 10:30 p.m. when she dozed off. Then around 2 a.m., the woman awoke to a man shaking her body."
"To her astonishment, the man was pointing a silver handgun at her head, putting his hand over her mouth and motioning for her to stay silent and still.
The suspect, described as a 'mexicano' man in his 20s with black hair, ripped off the sofa covers and raped the woman for 'a few minutes.' The victim did not put up a struggle out of fear for her life."
The two friends called the police after the assailant ran off into the night. Authorities took DNA samples but were unable to find a match in their criminal database system.
That 1996 case laid dormant until the January 2008 drug bust of Abarca. However, by the time that local police determined he was the primary suspect, he had already been deported out of the country by the feds.
It is unclear when he re-entered the United States, but Abarca now faces charges of "first-degree rape, first-degree burglary and the use of a handgun during a violent felony" after being stopped this April. He could be sentenced for a lifetime in prison plus 40 years if found guilty. Given that his DNA was found at the scene, it is likely that he will found guilty come his trial in October.
But, on June 13 of this year, ICE put out a new deportation detainer on Abarca requesting that he be handed over to the federal authorities.
This could pose a tricky conundrum for Montgomery authorities. Montgomery County, a sanctuary county, routinely ignores detainer requests because they feel it hampers local law enforcement's ability to crack down on crime and gain trust in alien communities. Of course, one could argue that if he is handed over to ICE now, there is no guarantee that he will not waltz right back over the border a third time after his second deportation.
It is unclear what, if any communication, occurred between local police and ICE in 2009 aside from Montgomery County alerting authorities they had an illegal alien inside their jail. It is unknown when local police decided to run his DNA to check for other crimes. But, clearly communication could have been better. Abarca's case also highlights the need for better border security to prevent illegal aliens from re-entering the country after deportation.
This case, now 22 years in the making, is exhausting for all parties involved. To hep sort out the exact sequence of events, our friends at WJLA ABC 7 put together a timeline documenting the saga of the alleged rapist, convicted drug dealer, and previously deported illegal alien that is Jose Abarca:
Timeline of Events:
- October 19, 1996 — Victim raped while sleeping in a sunroom along Notley Road in Colesville, Maryland, suspect DNA collected.
- January 4, 2008 — Montgomery County Police arrest Jose Abarca on charges pertaining to cocaine distribution.
- July 7, 2008 — Abarca pleads guilty in cocaine distribution case, is sentenced to one-year in jail.
- March 9, 2009 — ICE deports Abarca to his native Mexico.
- March 19, 2009 — Montgomery County Police make DNA link and formally charge Abarca with 1996 rape case, but are unable to locate him.
- Unknown Date — Abarca returns to the United States illegally.
- April 3, 2018 — Montgomery County Police arrest Abarca during a routine traffic stop on outstanding warrant.
- June 13, 2018 — ICE lodges new deportation detainer against Abarca.

And....
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempted to enjoy a nice meal out yesterday night, but was asked to leave the restaurant's premises by the owner due to Huckabee Sanders' role in the Trump administration.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders sat down at the Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia with her family for two minutes. Then, the owner asked the table to leave. Huckabee Sanders, not wanting to cause a scene, left the premises.
Her server, Jaike Foley-Schultz, defended the owner by saying that the press secretary essentially 'self-departed' and was not physically booted from the restaurant.

Press Secretary kicked out of VA restaurant, biased social media responds.
6/22/18 Karen Townsend
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was kicked out of a Lexington, VA restaurant Friday night because she works for President Trump.
As you might imagine, Facebook and Twitter posts reflect the electorate in general, with mixed opinions depending upon individual political views.
A three-hour drive southwest of Washington, D.C., The Red Hen restaurant serves farm-to-table fresh new American cuisine, according to Google.
I tried to access their website but it appears to have crashed. I can’t imagine why, can you? It does not appear to be a part of a franchise chain and is described as rustic chic.
Given that this restaurant is also touted as 'family-friendly', it must have been a shock to Sarah Sanders when the owner, a woman, asked her to leave the premises Friday night. Seated with 'seven family members',Sanders was asked to leave! The waiter is quoted as saying, “I just served Sarah Huckabee Sanders for a total of 2 minutes before the owner kicked her out along with 7 of her other family members.”
Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people respectfully, including those I disagree with, and will continue to do so. Sarah Sanders
Did I mention she was asked to leave “on moral grounds”? Twitter and Facebook have their own cultural war going on between supporters and members of The Resistance.
Naturally, Papa Bear Mike Huckabee has weighed in, too, in his typical fashion.
"Bigotry. On the menu at Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington VA. Or you can ask for the “Hate Plate”. And appetizers are “small plates for small minds”. Gov. Mike Huckabee
Remember when the left insisted that private businesses serve anyone who walked through their door, no matter what?
Why is it now a “moral decision” for this woman owner to refuse service to a table of eight, simply because one of the diners is employed by the president?
I don’t think Sarah was there to wax poetically on the policies of Donald Trump. She was just trying to eat dinner with her family on a Friday night.
The Supreme Court "ruled in favor of the Colorado baker" who refused to accept an order from a queer couple for a wedding cake.
It makes sense to me that a private business can decline business if the owner chooses to do so. I don’t argue that the restaurant owner doesn’t have the same right. I do, however, point out the hypocrisy that the intolerant left show as they act the same as the conservative baker. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, or something.
The baker was objecting on the basis of his religious beliefs and this restaurant owner objected solely on her political beliefs.
Meanwhile, Hollywood is jumping into the fray. Trump-hating D-Lister Kathy Griffin responded to tweets Saturday morning, including to Mike Huckabee’s.
"Your daughter got asked to leave because she lies and is ruining the country. You all support bakeries not baking cakes for loving gay couples. Your daughter wasn't kicked out because of her gender, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation etc. Liars aren't a protected class."
A pattern has developed. Members of the Trump administration are not expected to be allowed to dine in public with family and friends, apparently.
Earlier this week, Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen was harassed by a loud mob inside a Washington, D.C. restaurant as she dined with a friend.
White House adviser Stephen Miller was called “a fascist” by a protester as he dined at a Mexican restaurant, too.
Does the irony escape the protesters? Their behavior is quite fascist on its face.
Now we know the new rules, according to Kathy Griffin. For no other reason than the opposition party believing a person is a liar, that person is to be refused service by business owners. Got it. I don’t think the Democrats and their friends in TheResistance will be so pleased with the new rules when the next Democrat is elected president.

Whoa: Americans Have Bought More Guns In the Past Two Months Than Our Military Has On Hand!
6/ 23/18 Matt Vespa
May was another solid month in gun sales, with over two millionbackground checks being run according to the FBI. Yet, Stephen Gutowski of The Washington Free Beacon also touched upon the Small Arms Survey, which showed that Americans own 393 million of the one billion-plus firearms in worldwide circulation. So, while we’re not the majority owner of all guns worldwide, Gutowski broke down some interesting aspects of this report.
First, that in the last two months alone, Americans have bought more guns than our entirely military has on hand, and that Americans bought more guns in 2017 than every police agency in the world did combined:
American civilians own nearly 100 times as many firearms as the U.S. military and nearly 400 times as many as law enforcement.
Federal Bureau of Investigation background check records suggest that civilians bought more than 2 million guns in May alone, which means civilians purchase more than double the number of firearms owned by police departments.
The number of gun-related civilian background checks in May and April, at over 4.7 million, is greater than the number of firearms currently owned by the American military.
The FBI reported processing more than 25.2 million gun-related civilian background checks in 2017, which is more than the 22.7 million guns the Small Arms Survey estimates are currently held by every law enforcement agency in the world combined.
Between 2012 and 2017, the FBI reported conducting more than 135 million civilian gun checks—more than the 133 million guns the Small Arms Survey estimates are in all the world's military stockpiles.
The Small Arms Survey estimated there are about 1 billion firearms currently in circulation throughout the world. By its estimate, about 85% are owned by civilians, American civilians own nearly 40% of all the guns in the world!
Researchers said worldwide firearms ownership was up since the last time they studied the issue about a decade ago.
He elaborated more on social media:
"This, of course, makes us by far the #1 in civilian gun ownership in the world with the next closest being India at about 70 million. There are more civilian-owned guns in the US than there are people! Most people, I think, understand that but don't really grasp what it means. Every law enforcement agency in America combined have about 1 million firearms in their inventory. That means American civilians have about 400 TIMES as many firearms as American police.
In May alone, American civilians bought somewhere around 2 million firearms. That's twice as many firearms as every police department in America combined IN A SINGLE MONTH!!
Similarly, the American military is estimated to hold about 4.5 million firearms. That means American civilians have 100 TIMES as many firearms as every branch of the American military COMBINED.
If you combine May and April's gun-related background check numbers you get 4.7 million. That means the American public bought more guns IN JUST THE LAST TWO MONTHS than the entire American military has on hand.
Furthermore, the Small Arms Survey estimates all the world's law enforcement agencies combined hold about 22.7 million guns. In 2017 alone, the FBI processed 25.2 million gun checks. The American public bought more guns in 2017 "than every police agency in the 'world' combined".
Between 2012 and 2017, the FBI did more than 135 million civilian gun checks. That's more than the estimated 133 million guns held by ALL THE WORLD'S MILITARIES COMBINED."
All I can say is God bless our country and our Bill of Rights.

There Are Over One Billion Firearms Worldwide. This is How Many Are Owned By Americans.
6/23/18 Matt Vespa
The United States is the land of the free and the home of the brave. We all know this. We’re also a nation that cherishes gun ownership and our Second Amendment rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
Right now, as with any mass shooting, those rights are under attack by the political Left.
All of these shootings are horrific, but chipping away at the rights of law-abiding citizenry for the sake of safety is unwise and dangerous. It’s always been that way.
Sandy Hook was a heinous crime, but no new legislation to curtail our rights occurred. The anti-gun Left went for the Hail Mary and failed. Now, they’ve focusing on local legislative goals. The push for universal background checks is no longer a focus; it’s increasing the age for purchasing firearms.
Vermont and Florida, which has Republican, pro-NRA governors, caved on this front. They’re gaining legislative wins, but while the Left’s their ultimate goal is to repeal the Second Amendment and confiscate firearms, reality might upend that grand scheme.
We all know there are over 300 million firearms owned in the U.S. To enact laws to fully take all of them would need policies seen in brutal authoritarian regimes.
According to Small Arms Survey, there are over 1 billion firearms in worldwide circulation, and Americans own 393 million of them. That’s 46% percent (via Time):
There are over 1 billion firearms in the world today, including 857 million in civilian hands — [with American men and women the dominant owners], according to a study released Monday.
The Small Arms Survey says 393 million of the civilian-held firearms, 46%, are in the United States, which is “more than those held by civilians in the other top 25 countries combined.”
“The key to the United States, of course, is its unique gun culture,” the report’s author, Aaron Karp, said at a news conference. “American civilians buy an average of 14 million new firearms every year, and that means the United States is an overwhelming presence on civilian markets.”
The report said the numbers include legal and illegal firearms in civilian hands, ranging from improvised craft weapons to factory-made handguns, rifles, shotguns and, in some countries, even machine guns.
I am disappointed in this survey:
1) We’re not the majority owner of all worldwide firearms in circulation;
2) it should have been 400 million and after we hit that number—a goal of 500 million within the next ten years. It’s not impossible.
During obuma’s tenure in the Oval Office, Americans bought over 100 million firearms.
