The inter-war years,1919-39, were labeled by Auden and Eliot, as a depressingly low period for the English people; the consequence of the catastrophe of the Great War; from which Britain has never recovered.

In my judgement, we are also in a similar funk, attributable to the complete and utter absence of leadership in our nation; a reality that di Genova subconsciously alludes to. 

Down through history, Great Nation-States survive and thrive because of the quality of their leaders and the resolve of their people.

Will we recover? Perhaps/perhaps not. For sure, there will be no absence of happy talk!
