SUMMARY:Arizona's Tea Party
DESCRIPTION:Sorry, didn't get it posted before, so sharing the happeni
ng after. As most of you know, Mr. Obama arrived in Mesa, Az to discus
s the Mortgage bail out. Here is a write up in the paper.\n\nMore than
500 protest Obama's arrival\nPresidential protesters made their voice
s heard in chants and signs Wednesday outside Dobson High School.\n\nC
atholics pray for Obama at vigil\n\nSLIDESHOW: President Obama's visit
to Mesa\n\nDobson buzzes with excitement over Obama\nText of Obama's
speech\n\nThe protesters, about 500 to 600 strong and growing, began a
rriving as ticket holders walked in.\n\nMesa police set up a protest a
rea along Guadalupe Road.\n\nThey held their signs up high: \"Don't tr
ead on me,\" \"Spend all you want, I'll pick up the tab,\" \"I'll keep
my freedom! You keep the change!\" \"Free fertility drugs now.\" And
\"B.O. smells and so does Socialism.\"\n\nA Gilbert woman, with a sign
that said, \"Fund bikini wax now,\" said she is entitled to the beaut
y treatment.\n\n\"It's a self-esteem issue and hygiene issue, which ma
kes it a health care issue. I think we're all entitled,\" said the wom
an in jest. She only gave the name JoAnne, because she is skipping wor
k.\n\nCritics of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio showed up in force
, as well.\n\nAt one point about 15 members of Somos America, in strip
ed jail garb and linked by chains, marched passed the presidential pro
testers. Those protesters responded with chants: \"We love Joe!\"\n\nR
ob McElwain, spokesman for Somos, said they want an end to laws that a
llow local police to enforce immigration laws, an end to Arpaio's immi
gration sweeps and a federal investigation into Arpaio.\n\nThe Mesa Po
lice Department stationed four neutral observers outside the school, i
ncluding Phil Austin, former president of the Mesa Association of Hisp
anic Citizens.\n\nAustin said things went smoothly, except for a few v
endors trying to sell goods without a permit.\n\nAs protesters held th
eir signs high, they exchanged cheers with the honking cars that passe
d.\n\nThe general message of the protesters was that Obama's policies
would lead the country toward socialism.\n\n\"I'm out here to exercise
my First Amendment rights while I still have them,\" said Tim Guiney,
52, a Phoenix sales manager. \"Everything that man stands for is the
antithesis of what this country was founded on. He's a Marxist, fascis
t.\"\n\nLee Bauer, 53, a social and fiscal conservative, said she does
n't believe in the $787 billion stimulus package signed by Obama Tuesd
ay in Denver.\n\n\"Obama's stimulus package has only mobilized the opp
osition,\" she said.\n\nFormer Republican Congressman J.D. Hayworth of
Arizona also was in attendance.\n\nHe called the bill a \"trillion-do
llar boondoggle.\"\n\nA man shouted over a megaphone, \"I want to see
if the president is driving a (Toyota) Prius or an electric car.\"\n\n
