Defeating Gun Control

The Second Amendment to our Constitution is constantly attacked. We must maintain this freedom. It is a fundamental right which must never be lost.

I had a lengthy conversation with Katrina, a legislative analyst for the NRA this morning. The Blair Holt Firearm and Record Sale Act of 2009 Bill - HR 45 - is currently before the House Judiciary Committee, and has not yet been heard. It has no co-sponsors. They - the NRA - welcome our assistance and support. Katrina suggested that we log onto the House Judiciary Committee site and then contact each member of the committee to voice our opposition to this very onerous Bill. She also added that each person who opposes this bill needs to contact their state reps in the Congress.

She suggested we read the NRA take on this. Here is a part of the article that addresses this Bill, and the link to it.

U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) recently sponsored H.R. 45, also known as "Blair Holt Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act." The bill is, at its core and as its name implies, a licensing and registration scheme...H.R. 45 is essentially a reintroduction of H.R. 2666, which Rush introduced in 2007. H.R. 2666 contained much of the same language as H.R. 45, and was co-sponsored by several well-known anti-gun legislators--including Barack Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel. H.R. 45 currently has no co-sponsors.

Rest assured that NRA-ILA will continue to monitor this bill closely, and will keep you informed of any developments if they materialize.

    http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Federal/Read.aspx?id=4329

I suggest that the letter posted for use opposing this Bill be sent to each house Judiciary member, as well as to each person's representative.

Additionally, I suggest we coordinate with as many other sites that we can, that also oppose this Bill. Why? We can schedule a specific day or week to flood each Judiciary member's email, US mail, telephone lines etc on that day, and keep it up until they put up the white flag.

We can do this. It is not costly, other than in a bit of time. We can win and let them know that whenever they do this sort of things, they will hear from thousands, or hopefully millions of us, as well as from richly funded groups like the NRA.

Additionally here is a simple one minute poll on USA today asking about gun ownership rights. Interesting results so far. http://www.usatoday.com/news/quickquest ... up5895.htm.

    Smart

We need to organize and coordinate with NRA and GOA to stop any and all attacks on the Second Amendment.

I believe that gun control is just one leg of a many legged stool vis-a-vis fighting the Obama machine. I repeat myself: We need to out-Alinsky Alinsky. He - Alinsky - had no internet access, nor did he have groups like We the People or Resistnet to counter his methods. We must get all the state chapters involved, and we must set an agenda that is precise, targeted and focused. As far as I can tell we are all troubled and angry at what is happening to our country. We have been betrayed, and still are being betrayed. We need better strategies and far better tactics if we are to survive.

"Sentence" for Oregon Marine Vet and Gun Owner: Get Your Head Examined

The big brains at Western Oregon University have demanded that a former Marine and current conceal carry permit holder get a psych exam before he's allowed to carry his weapon on campus (which is allowed under Oregon law).
This is what the students on the Judicial Affairs Hearing committee decided after Jeffrey Maxwell was ARRESTED for LEGALLY carrying a gun on campus:

    1) Suspension from Weestern Oregon University until the end of spring term 2009.
    2) Satisfactory written evidence from a licensed mental health professional that you do not pose a threat to yourself or others
    3) A minimum TEN PAGE PAPER with references, citing, but not limited to:

    * the importance of following the law, even through civil disobedience
    * the importance of accepting responsiblity for one's actions
    * and recognizing the impact possession of weapons on college campuses has on others

Imagine if you could do that with some people so they could keep their FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS.

got that from victoriataft.com heard her on the radio tonight i think this is what she was discussing i didnt catch it all but i heard them mention the 2nd amendment
  • Jerry Dean

    Well, Well well...

Now students are running things, and poorly at that. What about a letter from this group - signed by all - that reads the riot act to these students, reminds them that there actually is a Second Amendment, and makes it very clear that we the people support this marine?

Judicial Affairs? Hardly. What gives them the right to trump current law? Perhaps they can study more, become lawyers, run for office, and eventually be made judges on one court or another. Then they can play their silly games legally, and with just the right amount of Leftist input to continue to destroy all rights not just those embodies in the Second Amendment.

Changing the subject: Why are there so few Gun Control/Second Amendment supporters on this We the People site, and just a few less than 1000 on Resistnet? What are we not doing here that needs to be done. I firmly believe that while it may be the Second Amendment today, it will be other rights removed tomorrow. We need to see why this is the care. Ideas?

I hope you will all support the march on DC being organized at Resistnet.com. If that march has several different groups represented, all marching for the Constitution, there will be more chance of media attention. Also, there are other groups already working with tangible plans to return our government to Constitutional law.

    on the NRA website:
Ignoring 80 Percent of the Problem

    2/16/2009

Did you know that 80 percent of the crime in this country is committed by less than 1 percent of the population?

The FBI says the one million gang members in this country are responsible for four out of five crimes, yet the Obama administration seems to ignore this fact to focus on gun control that has nothing to do with breaking the back of criminal gang violence.

For example: The Obama administration only mentions gangs in the "Urban Policy" portion of its agenda, not in crime and law enforcement. Yet the FBI tells us "Gang migration from urban communities to suburban and rural locations, which began more than two decades ago, is a significant and growing problem in most areas of the country."

It's shocking that this White House limits violent gangs to "Urban Policy" solutions. Its agenda focuses on support for gun control that would do nothing to reduce gang activity, but would erode the Second Amendment rights of every law-abiding American -including history's most sweeping ban on semi-automatic firearms.

The Obama plan seems to ignore the one million gang members who commit 80 percent of the crime in this country, while targeting the 80 million lawful gun owners in the United States. That's not a solution to gang violence, and it's not "Change."

In fact, it's just relying on the same failed policies that have made Chicago one of the most crime-ridden cities in the country.

    Hi:

I have been out of town for a few days, and it seems that the sh*t has hit the fan relative to the Blair Holt Bill. We need to start an immediate phone, email and letter writing campaign to all members of the Subcommittee hearing this bill. We also need to see what actions both NRA and GOA are taking to defeat this bill. I have read some comments that NRA is talking about defeat. I am not sure if that is true, but worth a call to NRA. I, for one, will be calling tomorrow. Please do the same.

What is amazing is the fact that we even NEED to defend our Second amendment rights. They are rights!, Politicians in Washington should be defending them for us, but then again, these politicians are Socialists, who have forgotten that freedoms come with being Americans.

Let's look at this from a completely different perspective: A woman is beaten to near death by a male citizen. The male gets arrested, BUT the woman must prove that she did nothing to incur the wrath of the male. If she cannot prove that, then she has no right to any justice because her very actions could justify her being beaten. In other words, she deserved to be beaten.

For most of us this is ridiculous, and is a blatant example of "blaming the victim". Well guess what? When the politicians and others who want guns banned act, this is targeted at removing our Second Amendment rights. Maybe we deserve to have our guns taken away. As gun owners we are not too different than the beaten woman. Perhaps we do things that incur the wrath of those who believe guns are bad, even though there is no proof of this. We are being beaten up, and because we believe in our rights, are told we are at fault, and that these new restrictions will solve that, and teach us how to be better citizens.

I do not think that this is terribly different than telling that beaten woman that she needs to change her behavior, and doing so would stop the beatings.

I am a great believer in "Do unto others as they would do unto you". This leaves no alternative but to fight these anti-gun nuts in the same way they treat us. Gloves off. Take no prisoners! We have been polite too long...

    People:

We have to stop the "Oh my God, the sky is falling" talk starting here. Get it together. Let's attack one thing at a time. This is a gun control group. Let's start there. The FEMA camps or anything else needs to be targeted by a group specific to that problem. If we do not do this, we are falling right into the hands of the Leftists who want total control. They divide us, they causes us to go in multiple directions, and guess what? They win!

Here is a list of the representatives on the sub-committee that will hear the Blair Holt Bill. (Courtesy of Jane Q. Republican)

    Robert Scott, Chairman, Virginia
    Pedro Pierluisi, Puerto Rico
    Jerrold Nadler, New York
    Zoe Lofgren, California
    Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas (tx18@mail.house.gov)
    Maxine Waters, California
    Steve Cohen, Tennessee
    Anthony Weiner, New York
    Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Florida
    Louie Gohmert, Ranking Member, Texas
    Ted Poe, Texas
    Bob Goodlatte, Virginia
    Dan Lungren, California
    Randy Forbes, Virginia
    Tom Rooney, Florida

My suggestion; Let’s target each of these people. We can organize this group - as well as any other - in such a way that Resistnet members from committee member's states send letters, emails, and call the offices. In addition to the specific representative's office target the Subcommittee itself.

In addition we can divide our number - approximately 1000 - to bombard members with communications of all types. At this point, that would mean that approximately 150 members here would communicate with each committee member.

We have quite a bit on our side: The Constitution, numbers (64,000,000 + gun owners, 64 million gun owner's families and friends, etc. While I do not have a number for the total, I imagine that about 90,000,000 Americans are involved with guns in one way or another. (If someone here has a number that would be great.)

I am in CA, so will write letters, send emails and call the offices. I also intend to send these same letters to any representative that I can think of other than those on the subcommittee.

The objective is simple. We need to defeat this bill. We can do this with numbers. Numbers translate to votes, or potential votes. Each letter is seen as possibly representing 10 voters who did not write or call. All of us know that the primary job of all politicians is being reelected. Angry electorates stop that from happening. We must convince these people that we will not stand for any diminution of our Second amendment rights.

I suggest that anything written have the following somewhere in the letter or note:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

Let’s face it, we are the militia.

    Regards

    Hello again:

I just not spoke with Marie at NRA (NRAILA.org). She stated that HR 45 (The Blair Holt Bill) is dead, as it failed to procure any co-sponsors. To wit - from http://www.nraila.org

"Blair Holt gun control bill rehashed

It is H.R. 45: Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009. This bill was introduced in the 111th Congress by U. S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D IL) on Jan. 6, 2009. Failing to attract any co sponsors, it was referred for consideration to the House Committee on the Judiciary, where it now rests awaiting further action."

The part that troubles me is the ...rests awaiting further actions. I think it is still important to contact all members of the Judiciary Committee to tell them we are watching them, and are willing to vigorously protest this or any similar bill.

In short, I do not believe that HR 45 is dead. I believe that it is simply the beneficiary of a cease fire, where in it will rest, be rearmed and come back again in a modified form.

I am still going to contact members to tell them not to support any kind of bill, ever. Please consider doing likewise.

    Hey Folks,

OK... thanks Shirliann for starting the blog. Here's more info....

Texas State Senator, Dan Patrick, was on FoxNews this morning at 8:45am. He said he had some "breaking news to share". Boy was it!!! The Texas State Legislature had been trying very hard to get the Obama Administration to respond to a critical situation on the Texas Border. The Administration had not gotten back with Texas as of last night. So the State of Texas told Washington D.C. basically they could go jump, and "we'll take care of Texas!". As of last night... the Texas National Guard has been put on High Alert!!! This is the first time in history! Texas tried, desperately to get Washington's approval... but when they could not get it... they acted on their own. Which I say.... it's about damn time!!! I personally applaud the guts it took to defy the Fed's and act in our best interest! In case you are unaware of what the problems are .... Sen. Dan Patrick spelled it out nicely!

    1) 100's of PRO-DRUG CARTEL Mexicans were blocking the entrance to the United States, yesterday and today, banging cars, shouting and holding signs. 10 people were killed Wed. and 12 more yesterday at the border (5 of which were children!!!)
    2) They aren't sure ... but they think the Drug Cartel is paying the demonstrators to do what they're doing.
    3) This will spill over into the States! Mr. Patrick, and the other State officials,. are convinced that road-side bombs and car bombs will make it across the border and WILL NOT allow that to happen!!
    4) Mexico is breaking out in Civil War in the western part of the border and they expect it to spread the entire border with no end in sight.
    5) The National Guard will be activated as the scenario worsens and is on Alert now and will remain so until (and IF) Washington does something to end the danger on the border (Yeah... like that's gonna happen!).

FoxNews has yet to put this on their website which absolutely ticks me off!!!! I will post it IF they get the stones to do what's right!

For now... here's a link that will take you to a story on Feb. 12th that will help explain a lot.
    >>>> CLICK HERE!

Let's pray it doesn't come to this.... but in reality... Texas could be in a Civil War (actually it would be an international incident) with Mexico very soon if this isn't quelled. Just so you folks know.... the four Militia Groups that are here in Texas will be put on alert this evening. This has gotten REAL, REALLY FAST!

God help us... as we do what is necessary.

Here is a situation where the US government actually gives weapons to villagers to fight terrorists, yet this same US government is working hard to take away weapons from US citizens on US soil. This is something to add to our discussions with officials.

Pakistan to arm village militias to fight terror
By ASIF SHAHZAD, Associated Press Writer
    excerpt:
"ISLAMABAD – A Pakistani border region struggling against Taliban and al-Qaida militants will distribute 30,000 rifles to villagers in hopes that local militias can help the provincial government regain control, a top official said Sunday."

"Village militias backed by the United States have been credited with reducing violence in Iraq. A similar initiative is under way in Afghanistan."

"Hoti said the guns were on hand, having been seized from "terrorists and anti-state elements." He also approved a plan for an elite provincial police unit of 2,500 officers and said the province would meet the $40 million cost."

That is a good, and sane question. Perhaps this is something that needs to be discussed openly, while at the same time working towards absolutely saving our Second Amendment rights.

The latest issue of America's 1st Freedom magazine (NRA, March 2009, "Is the Militia Obsolete") offers an interesting bit of information that may be helpful to our cause. To wit:

"Many gun rights activists, however know there is still a militia, defined by both federal law and the laws of many states. California, for example, largely mirrors the federal definition, and its militia consists of all 'able-bodied male citizens', and those who have declared their intent to become citizens, between ages 18 and 45. Those members of the militia who are not part of the National Guard are automatically part of the unorganized militia, according to the California Military and Veterans Code. The governor may order members of the unorganized militia to appear 'in case of war, rebellion, insurrection, invasion, tumult, riot, breach of the peace, public calamity or catastrophe, or other emergency, or imminent danger thereof, or may be called forth for service under the Constitution and laws of the United States'...

Historically, civilian militias have been called upon in Alaska, Oregon and Maryland. In Maryland, it was specifically noted that while the civilian militia was to support the United States Army, the Army could not supply ordinance...'Hence, the volunteers, for the most part will be expected to furnish their own arms.'

Interestingly, civilian militias are necessary and incorporated into federal and state laws, and in addition to that militia members are expected to bring their own weapons. It seems to me that the only way this could happen is if the populace continues to be armed, and is able to re-arm them selves whenever new appropriate weapons become available.

Thus, one argument is that Americans MUST be armed and remain armed in order to meet their responsibilities as citizens expected to participate in civilian militias. To not be armed would seem to place male citizens between the ages of 18 and 45 in jeopardy of violating the law of states as well as the federal laws that apply."

One of my reasons for partially quoting this article is to pose the following question: Is not forming a state militia in violation of the law?

Buy your own gun or go to a gun show. In the time of crisis you may have a weapon that A. don't work, B. you are unfamilular with and don't know how to load or use it..

  • James Casteel

As I see this idea, the militia as set forth by state laws, is fine as far as it goes, but, there are many of us who do not meet the guidelines because of age or disability who are still capable of being of assistance. As one who cannot do the long range marching and infiltration necessary to qualify for militia, I must be available as a home guard, which is a last ditch defense. I stand, locked and loaded, in the event of a necessity of this action, ready and willing to expend my ammo in an effort to stop or inhibit the passage of any invader, common or foreign which comes my way!

  • Jerry Dean

    James et al:

I figure that those over 45 and a bit infirm would still be welcomed. I imagine if folks show up with equipment in order, and an emergency on hand, they will not turn anyone back.

If they did, I imagine an auxiliary group could be formed that finds a way to assist. In a crisis, everyone is qualified to help. Often, it is the older folks who have the experience, as well as the knowledge from perhaps being in the military, are very very important.

    Jerry Dean
  • James Casteel

Under most state militia laws, I know Missouri and Kansas laws, prohibit anyone under 18 or over 45 from joining a state militia. The only thing we older and disabled could possibly do is man aid stations and so on, if qualified to do so.
I have a small group who are waiting patiently in case we need to form for area protection. I believe many more would join in if the threat arose but as there is 'no problem' now as they see it, there is only my conspiracy theory. I still stand at the ready, 24/7/365 a year.
