Tomb of President Andrew Jackson, vandalized in Tennessee.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Officials at Andrew Jackson's historic home in Tennessee say the seventh president's tomb has been vandalized and marred by profanities.
Andrew Jackson Foundation President and CEO Howard Kittell said the vandalism was discovered early Friday at The Hermitage, the former president's home and museum in Nashville.
Kittell said someone marred the stone covers of the graves of Jackson and his wife, Rachel, with black and red paint. He said the word "killer" was written, along with profanities, and anarchist symbols were drawn at the site.
Kittell said a police report has been filed.
Jackson served as president from 1829-1837 and was a controversial figure. He was beloved as a man of the people but also oversaw the forced removal of Native Americans from the southeastern U.S.
New York firefighter vacationing in North Carolina rescues 3 girls from rip current.
By Paulina Dedaj | Fox News
A New York firefighter is being hailed as a hero after rescuing three young girls caught in a rip current along a a North Carolina beachfront. The save came just two days after a 4-year-old boy was swept out to sea off the same coast.
Sean O’Gorman from the Oswego Fire Department, was vacationing with his family in Emerald Isle, N.C., on Thursday when he noticed two girls in the water who appeared unable to return to shore. A third girl who was attempting to save them also became stuck.
O’Gorman said he ran to the girls’ mother, who then called 911.
Deciding not to wait for help, O’Gorman swam out to the girls himself.
SEARCH SUSPENDED FOR BOY, 4, SWEPT AWAY TO SEA OFF NORTH CAROLINA COAST.
"We were sitting, watching the girls playing in the water about 75 yards out, and I noticed they stopped trying to get back to the shore, and I think they were caught in a rip current,” O’Gorman told The Charlotte Observer.
“I decided to swim out, which was easy. Getting back was a struggle, with me trying to tow them all in. They were hooked onto my feet."
The firefighter, who will turn 52 in the coming days, said the girls “did not panic,” and he believed that the local fire department “would’ve gotten to them” had he not gone out.
Oswego Fire Department confirmed on Facebook that O’Gorman completed swift water rescue training just last week, and by “using the aggressive swim, forceful crawl stroke,” he was able to reach the struggling swimmers.
SWIFT WATER TRAINING PAYS OFF! Oswego Firefighter/Medic Sean O’Gorman recently completed swift water rescue training in Auburn last week.
Today he saved three girls who were caught in a rip current off the of coast of Emerald Isle, North Carolina while on vacation with his family. Using the aggressive swim, forceful crawl stroke he learned in training he was able to reach the girls where their father was unable, even on a surf board.
By the time firefighters from Emerald Isle arrived FF O’Gorman had everyone out of the water safe.
Each year, approximately 100 people lose their lives in rip currents.
Deputy Fire Chief for Emergency Management Justin Norfleet told Fox news that their department trains “extensively for marine operations including swift water rescue, ice rescue and dive operations.” He said they are responsible for the shores of Lake Ontario in Central New York and the Oswego River.
News of the rescue comes just one day after police in Kitty Hawk, N.C., called off the search for a missing 4-year-old who was swept out to sea while walking hand-in-hand with his mother along the beach.
The unidentified boy, said to be from New Hampshire, was swept out by a rip current just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
In suspending the search a day later, police said they have “now transitioned to recovery efforts.”
The boy had yet to be found at the time of publication on Friday night.

Six MS-13 members indicted in NJ for murder and plots to kill 2 others.
An indictment returned this weeks details an MS-13 killing that occurred on July 1, 2015, in West New York, N.J.
Six members of the violent MS-13 gang have been indicted in New Jersey on murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges.
The murder victim was a suspected rival gang member who was gunned down entering an apartment building in West New York, N.J., on July 1, 2015, according to the indictment.
The indictment returned this week by a grand jury in Newark Federal Court says the hit was carried out by MS-13 recruit Juan Garcia-Gomez, 22, as part of his initiation into the gang.
It alleges that the murder was authorized by a high-ranking MS-13 member, Christian Linares-Rodriguez, 38. who is behind bars in El Salvador.
Other charges in the indictment include racketeering and extortion.
“Our office has been pursuing and successfully prosecuting the members of the violent transnational gang MS-13 for the crimes they have committed in New Jersey and elsewhere,” Newark U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said in a news release.
“The facts described in the indictment returned today make it clear why: This is a vicious organization with no regard for human life or for the laws of our country.”
The five defendants from New Jersey are citizens of El Salvador, where the gang’s top leaders are based, according to the news release.
The attorney for Garcia-Gomez said his client maintains his innocence and will plead not guilty when he is arraigned, the Bergen Record reported Thursday.
The Hudson Reporter posted an article at the time of the murder that identifed Garcia-Gomez’s victim as 19-year-old Jose Lazaro Urias-Hernandez.
Why are they here in the first place. All this talk about being humanitarian, and allowing people to get away from the violence in their own country. They don't leave for that reason - they leave to spread their brutal murders here!
CHICAGO – A former law clerk who was facing trial next week in Chicago for impersonating a judge in 2016 has been found dead at her suburban Chicago home, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday.
Rhonda Crawford, once on a fast track to a high-salary, high-status job as a judge, was pronounced dead Thursday at her Calumet City home, a daily coroner's ledger said.
It offered no details on the cause of the 46-year-old's death, indicating only that an autopsy was pending.
The former nurse drew headlines and ridicule around Chicago after word spread she'd donned black judge's robes on Aug. 11, 2016, and presided over traffic cases that should've been heard by a real judge.
Early that year, she had won a primary for an open county judgeship.
She told reporters later, she had been shadowing judges to prepare for becoming a judge, which she called "a life-long ambition."
At one point, an actual judge, Valarie Turner, invited her to sit on the bench. Accepting was a spur-of-the-moment decision, which she regretted, she said.
Her lawyer, Rob Robertson, told the Chicago Tribune Friday he didn't know how his client had died.
"Rhonda was a truly great person who led an incredibly good life and wound up caught in a situation that was well beyond what it should have been," he said.
After word spread about what she'd done in 2016, she was fired from her $57,000-a-year position and charged with official misconduct, which carries a maximum five-year prison term.
She pleaded not guilty to that charge and a charge of impersonation.
Her trial was to start Monday.
Even after the incident, Crawford went on to win the general election that year. But her license had been suspended and the Illinois Supreme Court prohibited her being sworn in to $180,000-a-year judge's job.
Actual judge, Valarie Turner was removed from the bench.
During disciplinary hearings, Crawford described being shocked when another judge approached her in a hallway shortly after she took the robe off.
The judge sounded angry, asking, "What would you put your career on the line like this?" Crawford responded, "I didn't know I was."
After she was charged criminally, many observers, including Chicago Sun-Time columnist Mark Brown, agreed Crawford wasn't fit for a judgeship. But Brown also wrote that "the criminal charges are an unnecessary bit of piling on."
A new report released Friday by the House Intelligence Committee shows there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government to influence the 2016 presidential election.
The report, which the intelligence community highly redacted and spans 253 pages, shows the Russians tried to influence the election through propaganda campaigns and details similar efforts in Europe.
It lists dozens of findings on a number of relevant issues and shows in January 2017 obuma intelligence officials used the infamous Russian dossier as a way to attack President Trump in the press.
That dossier was paid for by the DNC and the clinton campaign in 2016 and compiled by British spy Christopher Steele.
“Former DNI James Clapper, now a CNN national security analyst, acknowledged discussing the dossier with CNN journalist Jake Tapper and admitted that he might have spoken with other journalists about the same topic," the report states.
On Friday, a newly-declassified congressional report on Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. elections revealed that obuma's Director of National Intelligence (DNI) leaked information about the infamous anti-Trump dossier to CNN's Jake Tapper, lied about it to Congress, and then was rewarded with a contract at CNN a few months later.
The Federalist's Sean Davis notes that the revelations about former DNI James Clapper were made in a new 253-page report from the House Intelligence Committee.
“Clapper flatly denied ‘discussing[ing] the dossier or any other intelligence related to Russia hacking of the 2016 election with journalists,'” the committee found.
Clapper explicitly told Congress that he had never discussed the dossier with any journalists.
As Davis notes, Clapper later changed his story when he was confronted about his communications with Tapper.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Fox News Friday that if President Trump is able to get North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to agree to denuclearize, the president should get the Nobel Peace Prize.
Graham praised Trump for the stunning progress made in getting North and South Korea leaders to meet Thursday to discuss denuclearization. It wouldn't have happened without Trump!," Graham said Friday. “The fact that the North Korean and the South Korean president met and they vowed to end the war.
What happened?
Donald Trump convinced North Korea and China that he was serious about bringing about change," he emphasized.
"We're not there yet, but if this happens, President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize!" Graham praised Trump for ignoring the critiques of his strategy towards North Korea.
Former FBI Director james comey repeated one of the more pervasive false claims about the infamous Steele dossier on Thursday, telling Fox News’ Bret Baier Republicans first financed the salacious document.
Instead, the clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee funded the dossier project.
“I knew it was first funded by Republicans,” comey told Baier during an exchange about his knowledge of the dossier, which former British spy Christopher Steele wrote.
“That’s not true,that the dossier that Christopher Steele worked on was funded by Republicans?” Baier replied.
Young America's Foundation scored a legal victory against UC-Berkeley this week after a judge in San Francisco refused to dismiss the organization's lawsuit against the university for infringing on the First Amendment rights of conservative students and speakers on campus.
“Young America’s Foundation looks forward to moving on to the merits of this case and vigorously defending our claims at trial. This ruling allowing YAF’s critical First Amendment case to move forward is a win for conservatives and free speech, and it shows that Judge Chesney believes there is significant evidence of Berkeley’s work to suppress conservative speech," Young America’s Foundation spokesman Spencer Brown released in a statement. “Conservative students will finally have their day in court, and we are confident that the outcome of this case will be the restoration of students’ First Amendment rights at the University of California, Berkeley.”
The lawsuit against Berkeley is backed by the Department of Justice, which issued a statement of interest for the case in January.
“This Department of Justice will not stand by idly while public universities violate students’ constitutional rights,” former Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand said about the statement of interest at the time.
YAF filed the lawsuit late last year after the university repeatedly forced conservative students to pay extreme security fees to host speakers or face cancellation of their events. The university has special requirements and hurdles for conservative speakers that are not required for those who espouse leftist ideology.
"UC Berkeley has used its infamous unwritten and unpublished High Profile Speaker Policy to repeatedly suppress conservative speech on campus.
In Wednesday’s ruling, the court found sufficient factual allegations for YAF’s First Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment claims to move forward to trial," YAF released in a statement. "At trial, Berkeley will also have to answer for its unconstitutional application of the Major Events policy surrounding Young America’s Foundation’s breakthrough lecture with Ben Shapiro that took place last September.
The court found YAF’s arguments persuasive, regarding Berkeley’s use of security fees to suppress conservative speech."
Big Updates From President Trump's Meeting With German Chancellor.
April 27, 2018
President Trump met Friday with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, giving updates on several key issues facing the two countries, and other critical foreign policy issues. Here are the biggest stories coming out of their joint press event.
1. President Trump congratulated the leaders of North and South Korea after a historic summit and said his meeting with Kim will be in the “coming weeks.” The president promised that a “maximum pressure” campaign will continue “until denuclearization occurs.” North and South Korea pledged an official end to the decades long Korean War.
2. President Trump pressed the Germans and other NATO allies to increase their defense spending. The chancellor pledged to be a reliable partner, but acknowledged Germany’s shortfall, at only 1.3 percent of GDP of the pledged 2 percent.
3. President Trump also remarked that the World Trade Organization has treated the U.S. poorly. He calls for “fair and reciprocal trade relationships with our friends and allies.” He told the German leader directly that it wasn’t her fault, but America seeks to lower the trade deficit, for which Trump lays blame on previous administrations.
4. The president said he may attend the opening of the new embassy in Jerusalem in May. He stated that he was able to reduce the cost of construction from $1 billion to $3-400,000.
5. President Trump says he won’t discuss the use of military force, but he decisively warned Iran: “They are not going to be doing nuclear weapons. You can bank on it.”
Thursday afternoon, former CIA Director Mike Pompeo officially became the 70 U.S. Secretary of State after being confirmed by the Senate in a 57-42 vote.
"I am pleased with the Senate’s confirmation of Mike Pompeo to serve as our country’s top diplomat. Having a patriot of Mike’s immense talent, energy, and intellect leading the Department of State will be an incredible asset for our country at this critical time in history," President Trump released in a statement.
"He will always put the interests of America first. He has my trust. He has my support. Today, he has my congratulations on becoming America’s 70th Secretary of State."
"Congratulations to Mike Pompeo on being confirmed the 70th Secretary of State! Mike brings years of public service and expertise to the job. POTUS & I know that Mike Pompeo will serve our Nation w/ distinction and will do an outstanding job for the American people." Mike Pence
Michael Richard Pompeo was just sworn in as the 70th Secretary of State from the West Conference Room at The Supreme Court of the United States by Associate Justice Samuel Anthony Alito, Jr. 1:13 PM - Apr/26/18
President Trump has been blasting Democrats for days for continued obstruction of Pompeo's nomination.
"Hard to believe Obstructionists. The Dems will not approve hundreds of good people, including the Ambassador to Germany. They are maxing out the time on approval process for all, never happened before. Need more Republicans!"
For the first time since 1953, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un walked hand-in-hand across the DMZ, crossing into each other's respective country. Later in the day after a series of meetings, the two leaders agreed to officially end the Korean War.
During an interview with CNN's Christiana Amonpour Friday, South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha credited President Trump for the progress being made.
"Clearly credit goes to President Trump. He’s been determined to come to grips with this from day one,” Kyung-wha said.
Meanwhile, the United States is taking a celebratory yet cautious approach to the progress. President Trump's meeting with Kim Jong Un is being planned for June, although a location has not been announced.
"KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!" Apr/27/18
Anti-gunners like to paint concealed carry as the domain of beer-swilling, minority-hating, 'wannabe Rambo Males' looking for an opportunity to blow someone away. Much of their anti-gun rhetoric is based around this idea.
It's all based on misconstrued data or outright fabrications.
In a statement released Monday, the National Carry Academy says the number of women taking concealed-carry courses has spiked by 24% since the February 14 shooting.
In an interview with The Federalist, NCA CEO Chris Schutrop said an increasing number of women have been arming themselves over the past three years, but the Parkland shooting especially hit a nerve among women.
“There’s a greater chance they can protect themselves if they are carrying a firearm and are trained to use it,” Schutrop said. “It’s a tangible way that they can make a difference to help others and help themselves.”
That’s awesome. Seriously.
While concealed carry wouldn’t have prevented Parkland, it may well have helped at countless other mass shootings!
It wouldn’t have helped in Parkland simply because concealed carry wasn’t allowed on school campuses in Florida!
Based on the anti-gun push down that way, it’s unlikely that’s going to change any time soon.
But even taking the extremely rare possibility of mass shooting off the table, concealed carry is a massive benefit to women. While some circles like to pretend that women are capable of literally everything a man can do, there are exceptions.
For example, the average woman is physically weaker than the average man. That puts women at a disadvantage when it comes to violence, where strength is an important factor. - Unless that is, she has a gun.
You only need to muster a few pounds of pressure with your finger to pull a trigger, and that’s an incredible equalizer when you’re asking a 120-pound woman to defend herself against a 250-pound aggressive male.
I think most women recognize that fact, and many are looking at how to mitigate those differences. - That means a firearm. Plain and simple.
One comment about the NCA’s numbers is that it only accounts for increases in concealed carry courses.
It doesn’t account for a spike in states that don’t require a course before issuing a permit. I’d wager that you’d see as big, if not a bigger, spike there.
After all, women who might be intimidated by a concealed carry class might skip the process. If they didn’t have to sit through one, they might just pick up the permit.
Of course, it’s impossible to know the gender breakdown of concealed carry, but I’m glad to see this news. I’m a husband and a father of a young daughter. One of my greatest fears is something happening to my wife or little girl and me not being there to try and protect them.
The idea of the average concealed carrier changing to include more women means other fathers can deal with that fear a little bit better than before as their little girls, now all grown up, can protect themselves.
Women in Mississippi Are Educating Themselves on How to Use a Firearm.
May/24/17 by Erika Haas
Women in Mississippi are taking their personal protection into their own hands by exercising their right to bear arms.
Lori Shelton, who always considered herself anti-gun, decided to take a firearms training course after her home was broken into just last month.
“I was always anti-gun,” she told News Channel 3. “I wasn’t really scared of them, I just decided I wanted to be anti-gun, and what a difference 24-hours makes.”
“I was getting ready for work, doing my normal routine, and I heard a noise as I was getting out of the shower,” Shelton recalled. “I peeked through the blinds…and saw him looking at me. I mean we made complete eye contact,” Shelton said. “He proceeded to come through the back of the house, and I ran back and dialed 911.”
Her daughter was sleeping upstairs during the incident.
While police arrived in minutes, it took over an hour to locate the suspect.
According to Shelton, the intruder not only stole some of her antiques but her sense of security.
“It’s really hard. You don’t think about standing at the sink washing dishes, but with every dish that I wash, I’m constantly turning and looking over my shoulder to see if somebody is looking in,” she told News Channel 3.
It’s for that reason that Shelton decided to educate herself on guns, and is currently working toward getting her pistol permit and her own firearm.
She not only goes to the range for target practice but has enrolled in a firearms training course that teaches her how to load, shoot, store and clean a gun. She even takes her 15-years-old daughter along so she, too, knows how to protect herself.
Firearms instructor, Donna Hollway, says the course has had over 200 female students since it started last year; that’s about 50% of all participants.
“We have a large group of women that want to learn more about their weapon, want to be comfortable with it, want to be able to protect themselves and their family,” Holloway told News Channel 3. “Policemen and their husbands are not always going to be there to protect them, so they need to learn how to protect themselves when they’re out doing their daily lives.”
Judith Starks has also enrolled herself in the firearms training course.
It’s taken her more than twenty years – her home was broken into in 1993 – but Starks said she’s finally ready to learn how to defend herself.
“The thing that held me back was the fear. But now that the way the world has changed, I’m not going to be fearful anymore,” she said. “Let the fear go, get these lessons.”
Holloway reminds us: “Every woman is capable of doing this.”
So get out their girls, and learn how to defend yourselves and your loved ones!
New Legislation Aims to Put Firearms Education in Wisconsin High Schools.
July/13/17 by Jenn Jacques
Well, hallelujah, what wonders never cease!
On June 30, 2017, 18 Wisconsin Representatives and 5 State Senators introduced Assembly Bill 427, common sense legislation aimed at putting firearms education into high schools across the Dairy State.
The bill would require the state superintendent of public instruction to work with the Department of Natural Resources, a law enforcement agency, or an organization that specializes in firearms safety to develop a curriculum for a comprehensive firearm education course to be offered as an elective to high school pupils.
It would not require any school district to offer the course and would prohibit the presence or use of live ammunition.
Lead author of the bill, Representative Ken Skowronski (R-Waukesha) has been participating in shooting sports since the age or 12 and was inspired to draft the bill after seeing a rise in trap shooting clubs throughout Wisconsin.
“What we’re doing is allowing the high schools to offer an elective as a choice,” Skowronski said. “It can be yearlong, a quarter or a semester. It’s up to the school.”
The legislation drew quick criticism from hoplophobes like State Rep. Sondy Pope (D-Mt. Horeb), who thinks students should learn about gun safety somewhere other than in schools “because it is not the responsibility of the school district.”
“I know Wisconsin is a hunting state, I grew up in a hunting family, but I think it denotes something completely different, especially with handguns, in an urban setting,” Pope said.
Pope then inadvertently made a case to pass the legislation, saying, “I think we are all aware of the proliferation of death and injury because of the accessibility of guns in our society. I don’t see a reason to introduce guns to students in school,” before she concluded, “I think it’s inappropriate.”
If schools were to offer a firearm safety course which would greatly curtail “the proliferation of death and injury” from guns in our society, wouldn’t that be a good thing and an appropriate response to the issue?
Now if only we could get the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program in every school across the United States, then we’d really be taking a tremendous step toward gun safety in every town of America.
But that, of course, would make entirely too much sense!
Iowa Passes First Hurdle in Guaranteeing Gun Rights in the State.
Mar/31/18 by Patrick Richardson
As states across the country are considering new gun legislation in the wake of the Parkland shooting, and the feds are considering bans on accessories like “bump stocks” (which have been used in exactly one incident), Iowa is planning to let its voters decide what to do next.
Senators voted 34-15 to approve House Joint Resolution 2009, a one-page document that proposes a constitutional amendment providing that the right of people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed by government.
All 28 Republicans, one independent and five Democrats voted for the resolution, while 15 Democrats opposed it.
“The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes this right to be a fundamental individual right,” according to the resolution, which the Iowa House approved, 54-42, last week. “Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”
Strict scrutiny is the most stringent method of judicial review, meaning that the courts must weigh the government’s compelling interest in a law with — in this case — possible infringements on the Constitution, with greater weight given to the Constitution, rather than the government.
Generally speaking, a law will fail the Constitutional test when strict scrutiny is applied. Of course, the Democrats in Iowa are flipping out:
Sen. Matt McCoy, D-Des Moines, said majority Republicans in the Iowa Senate were “tone deaf” to the concerns of Iowans in the wake of school shootings and the “kitchen table” financial issues they face by taking up a constitutional amendment that is “a distraction,” when they should be passing a state budget and tackling other higher priorities.
Because actually protecting the rights of law-abiding Iowans shouldn’t be a high priority, apparently.
If this passes, Iowa will join 44 other states which have language in their state constitutions protecting the right to keep and bear arms. However, only three include “strict scrutiny” language.
The fact that nearly every other state in the nation including Alabama, Louisiana, and Missouri, which all require the strict scrutiny standard, have found it necessary to include this language in their constitutions should be a wake-up call to Iowa Democrats.
And for that matter, gun grabbers across the country. The right to keep and bear arms is personal and important to the majority of the country!
This is not a done deal in Iowa, as this same language must be passed again by both houses next year. If it passes the second round, the measure will be before voters in November 2020.
Iowa voters, get to the phones and let your legislators know this is important to you.
“This bill would increase student safety by prohibiting public schools from offering marksmanship programs or other programs that allow students to possess and discharge firearms on school property.”
Notice how she tries to tie the marksmanship team at Parkland with the shooter? She fails to note that, had the school and police have done their jobs, he not only wouldn’t have had a place on the team, but he also wouldn’t have been able to buy a guy.
Through the years, countless kids have gone through various marksmanship programs at their schools. Parkland is the first known case where someone affiliated with those teams has done anything like this. Once again, though, the anti-gunners want to punish everyone for the act of a single individual.
And let’s not forget that the claim, “research shows that an increase in guns leads to an increase in gun injuries and deaths,” is bogus and based on faulty methodology.
That study didn’t just look at lawful gun-owning households, but also included a fair number of criminals. These are people where yes, a gun was in the home, but its presence had nothing to do with the shooting that later followed.
Further, if you’re worried about gun safety, why on Earth would you make it more difficult for a kid to learn how to handle a firearm in a safe manner?
Of course, it’s not about safety. It’s about thinking guns are icky and wanting nothing to do with them while at the same time, wanting to signal that you’re a good little Democrat.
New York Bill Would Ban Shooting, Archery From Schools!
Apr/27/18 by Tom Knighton
While there are a ton of schools out there so terrified of anything resembling a gun that they punish kids over Pop-Tarts.
There are also schools with rifle and archery teams. They teach kids a lot of important lessons, such as responsibility, discipline, and patience, just to name a few.
A state lawmaker from New York City has authored a bill that would end riflery, trap shooting and archery as a sport in public schools.
Assemblywoman Linda B. Rosenthal, a Democrat who represents the 67th Assembly District in western Manhattan, introduced the bill on April 20. At this point, there is no co-sponsor for it in the state Senate.
The bill, A10428, which was sent to the Assembly’s Education Committee, would amend the state’s Education Law and calls for the “prohibition of marksmanship and/or shooting programs in public schools” – a change that “shall take effect immediately.”
Rosenthal’s bill, covering “marksmanship and/or shooting programs,” includes “any competitive or recreational shooting activities involving proficiency tests of accuracy, precision and speed in using various types of ranged weapons, such as firearms and air gun, in forms such as handguns, rifles and shotguns and/or bows or crossbows.”
In her memo describing the need for the bill, Rosenthal wrote:
“Marksmanship programs in public schools were once popular, but a rise in gun violence and school shootings in recent years has spurred a long overdue. re-evaluation of their place in our students curriculum. A number of schools which still operate marksmanship programs do so through grants from the National Rifle Association, including Parkland, Fla. high school where a former student and marksmanship team member murdered 17 students and teachers in February 2018.
“In 1990, Congress passed the Gun Free School Zones Act to prohibit the possession of firearms on school grounds, but left exemptions for police officers and school security as well as students possessing firearms as part of an approved school program. Research shows that an increase in guns leads to an increase in gun injuries and deaths, whether intentional or not. To create a true, gun-free school zone we cannot allow students to possess and discharge firearms on school property.
They underscore a real policy shift in the South away from the hard-line approach taken by its previous president, Park Geun-hye. Moon clearly is interested in pursuing a less volatile relationship with the North on several fronts and appears unwilling to put all of that on hold until Kim agrees to some sort of quick and complete denuclearization.
He also seemed to steer well away from human rights issues, which have been all but forgotten in the shadow of the North's nuclear program. That's a bit of a blow to Tokyo, which has been largely sidelined lately and was hoping that Moon would bring up the matter of what happened to Japanese abducted by North Korea in the 1970s and '80s.
More importantly, the softer approach, while helping many South Koreans breathe easier after the exceptionally high tensions of last year, puts Seoul and Washington on conflicting paths.
But the messaging from the White House remains ambiguous. Trump has suggested Pyongyang must demonstrate a commitment to denuclearization before his policy of maximum pressure on the North can change.
Moon, on the other hand, seems willing for the most part to kick the nuclear issue down the road. He signed off on a pledge with Kim to seek the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula — a phrase that sounds good on the surface but has very little practical meaning without the inclusion of specific measures, time frames and even a definition of exactly what the word "denuclearization" means.
This is where the obligatory mention of the devil being in the details comes in.
The United States hasn't kept nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula since the early 1990s.
But for Pyongyang, denuclearization has generally been taken to mean the removal of South Korea from Washington's "nuclear umbrella." That would mean Washington must somehow assure Kim that his country is safe from a nuclear attack — and that's a very complicated thing to do.
Maybe that will all become clear when Kim and Trump meet.
But so far, neither has offered any realistic, detailed proposals.
AP Analysis: Korea summit puts nuclear ball in Trump's court.
4/28/18 AP News
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — After a summit high on theatrics, emotional displays of Korean reconciliation and some important but familiar sounding plans to boost bilateral relations, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has safely returned to Pyongyang and South Korean President Moon Jae-in to his official residence in Seoul.
But is buyer's remorse about to set in?
Despite its feel-good emphasis on relationship-building, the first inter-Korean summit in more than a decade left a lot of question marks around the biggest and most contentious agenda item of them all: denuclearization. And that puts the ball squarely in the court of President Donald Trump, whose much anticipated sit-down with Kim is expected to be just weeks away.
For Moon and Kim, that was probably a feature, not a bug. They were both looking to make a show of Korean unity. But it could complicate matters for Trump, who has raised expectations of a deal with Kim to abandon his nuclear weapons much higher. In the long run, that could complicate things for everyone involved.
For sure, Friday's daylong summit inside the Demilitarized Zone that divides the Koreas was a major step forward for diplomacy and could set a more solid foundation for future, more substantive talks. Starting off with a meeting that establishes goodwill and personal relationships at the highest level is a smart move, particularly when there is so much animosity in the air.
Moon also proved he really knows how to put on a show — and Kim revealed his skill at playing along for the cameras.
The two seemed almost like old pals, hugging and holding hands, sitting off to themselves on a footbridge in the Demilitarized Zone for a private "chat" that lasted nearly a half hour. As they exchanged their first handshake, Moon motioned for Kim to cross the concrete slab that marks the division of the nation — a hugely symbolic, albeit highly choreographed, moment.
Kim then went off script, according to South Korean officials, and motioned for Moon to take a step back and join him in the North. The seemingly impromptu dance seemed to encapsulate the reality — some might say absurdity — of their nation's division along the 38th parallel, a decision made not by Koreans themselves but by a U.S. military trying to counter Soviet expansion after Japan's defeat in World War II.
The summit follows meetings between Kim's father, Kim Jong Il, with South Korean presidents in 2007 and 2000. Each produced similar sounding vows to reduce tensions, replace the current armistice that ended the fighting in the 1950-53 Korean War and expand cross-border engagement.
One difference from Friday's summit was the pledge by Kim and Moon to officially declare an end to the conflict this year.
They also announced a series of engagement measures. They will set up a liaison office in the North Korean city of Kaesong, which is near the border and is the site of a now shuttered industrial complex that had for years been the biggest joint project between the two countries. Moon will visit Pyongyang in the fall, high-level military talks will be held next month and reunions will be arranged for families separated by the war.
A Los Angeles Police Officer is facing federal charges and a lengthy prison sentence after authorities caught him trying to smuggle two illegal immigrants across the border. U.S. Border Patrol arrested Officer Mambasse Koulabalo Patara early Tuesday morning at a checkpoint near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego County. CBS 2 Explains: According to the complaint, at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, Patara drove up to the checkpoint with two male passengers in a 2006 Toyota Corolla. While being interviewed by Border Patrol agents, Koulabalo showed them his LAPD badge and stated he was off-duty, the complaint states.
Agents later patted him down and found his service-issued gun in his waistband, the complaint reads. Koulabalo reportedly told border agents his two passengers were U.S. citizens. The men, identified as Herman Lopez and his nephew German Ramirez Gonzalez, eventually admitted they were in the country illegally. One of the men said they had known Koulabalo for years and had worked for him at his Fontana home. He added they had decided to go to a casino in Alpine in southern San Diego County, before heading to another one in Campo and ending up at the border checkpoint near Pine Valley.
If convicted, Koulabalo could serve up to five years behind bars.
See for Yourself How Bad Things Have Gotten in San Francisco.

Several people appearing to shoot up drugs at a San Francisco rail station were caught on camera in a video published Friday by Fox News. The recording reportedly shows an ongoing problem in the California city, particularly at places of transit like the underground rail stations. “I walk this [Bay Area Rapid Transit] Station every day and it can be a scary place at times,” resident Shannon Gafford, who recorded the scenes over the course of a week, wrote on Facebook. “I’m tired of our city and state officials acting like this is such a great place with No Problems!
As you can see, this looks a lot like Hell.” Other people visible in the video seem to be unconscious, throwing up, or slumped over in a drug-induced snooze!
San Francisco commuters say they are forced to go around their fellow citizens to get to their destinations as the impaired lay and meander.

It wouldn’t be fair to let former FBI Director jim comey hog the post-obuma administration spotlight; thankfully, the existence of Judicial Watch means we never have to. The watchdog group released 281 pages of just-discovered clinton emails, most of which are conversations with then-British PM Tony Blair, and at least 10 of which contain classified information that have been redacted in the interest of national security. According to Judicial Watch:
“The emails show killary clinton conducted classified and sensitive negotiations about the Israel-Arab conflict on her unsecure, non-governmental server.” The emails appear to be exchanges the former Secretary of State tried to delete or never disclosed. JW breaks them down in a handy bullet-pointed reference:
As the world prepares for talks aimed at denuclearizing North Korea, scientists report the dictatorship may have already unleashed a worldwide nuclear threat.
"North Korea’s mountain nuclear test site has collapsed, putting China and other nearby nations at unprecedented risk of radioactive exposure, two separate groups of Chinese scientists studying the issue have confirmed," The South China Morning Post reports.
"One group of researchers found that the most recent blast tore open a hole in the mountain, which then collapsed upon itself," the SCMP reports.
Observers have speculated for months the Mount Mantap site at Punggye-ri was near collapse, and there were unconfirmed reports in 2017 of a series of massive tunnel collapses killing hundreds of North Korean laborers.
Those suspicions were heightened when North Korea last week offered to end nuclear tests, raising dictator Kim Jong Un only made the offer because the site could no longer be used.
But the collapse is anything but welcome news that nuclear disaster has been averted.
In fact, it may unleash a global radioactive monster.
"The breakdown created a ‘chimney’ that could allow radioactive fallout from the blast zone below to rise into the air," the SCMP reports. "Radioactive dust could escape through holes or cracks in the damaged mountain, the scientists said."
That radioactive dust could rise into the atmosphere and disperse over a wide area.
"So far we have not detected an abnormal increase of radioactivity levels," Guo Qiuju, a Peking University professor and Chinese government adviser, tells the SCMP.
"But we will continue to monitor the surrounding region with a large [amount] of highly sensitive equipment and analyze the data in state-of-the-art laboratories."
~~~~~ Texas Voter ID Law Upheld
Apr/28/18 Timothy Meads
The Associated Press reports that a Texas voter ID law has been upheld by a US Court of Appeals.
“Texas' voter ID law that was twice blocked over findings of discrimination can stay in effect for the 2018 elections, a U.S. appeals court ruled Friday.
It was the second major ruling over voting rights in the U.S. this week after an Arkansas judge on Thursday blocked that state's voter ID measure as unconstitutional.
But in a 2-1 decision by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, the Texas law that critics have slammed as one of the toughest voter ID measures in the nation was seen as a suitable replacement for the original 2011 law that a federal judge had likened to a "poll tax" on minority voters.
The biggest change to the Texas law — which accepts handgun licenses as sufficient identification to vote, but not college student IDs — is that voters without any acceptable photo ID can still cast a ballot so long as they sign an affidavit.
Opponents and a federal judge in Texas balked at the revisions, saying criminal penalties tied to lying on the affidavit could have a chilling effect on voters.”
Democrats have long argued that state voter ID laws are racist because in their view minorities are less likely to be able to obtain identification.
Republicans argue that since identification is required for nearly everything these days, it would make sense that arguably one of the most important civic duties would also require ID.
According to CNN, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised the decision!
From CNN:
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised the decision, saying the revised law "removes any burden on voters who cannot obtain a photo ID."
"The court rightly recognized that when the Legislature passed Senate Bill 5 last session, it complied with every change the 5th Circuit ordered to the original voter ID law," Paxton said in a statement. "Safeguarding the integrity of our elections is essential to preserving our democracy."
Florida County Allows Government Workers With Permits To Carry While Working.
8:30 am Apr/28/18 by Tom Knighton
People who work for county governments sometimes go into some sketchy places. It can be bad enough that I’ve had more than one tell me they wish they could carry a gun for their protection. I mean, it’s not like government workers ever get murdered while working, right? Well, there was that one time. Oh, yeah, then there was that other time.
Okay, so maybe it happens.
The truth of the matter is, county workers have the same God-given right to self-defense the rest of us have. Simply being on the clock shouldn’t change that.
Commissioners in Brevard County voted unanimously Tuesday to allow employees with concealed carry permits to carry guns on the job.
The commission voted 5-0 during their regular Board of County Commissioners meeting.
The new policy takes effect immediately. Any of the county’s more than 2,000 concealed-weapons-permitted employees can now carry a firearm on the job.
“These are law-abiding citizens,” Commissioner John Tobia said. “For one reason or another, this previous county commission had said they don’t deserve the right to have their gun at work. I disagreed with that, and thankfully, this board changed that policy,” Tobia said.
Tobia had previously made the proposal to allow Brevard employees to have guns on the job. It required commissioners to amend a previous policy banning those who did not serve in law enforcement or in security positions.
“To disenfranchise them for a right we provide our public is, I think, patently wrong,” Tobia said.
The policy does not apply to what’s called the county’s five elected “constitutional officers,” including the sheriff, and also doesn’t affect Brevard School District employees.
While it’s a shame school employees are excluded, that has more to do with state law than anything else. If the state doesn’t permit school employees to carry, then the county is out of luck. Nothing they can do.
But in the meantime, a large chunk of the county’s employees are going to be a bit safer going forward. Even if they don’t carry themselves, criminals looking for an easy mark now have to deal with the possibility of the county utility worker being armed, thus making them a less tempting target.
The criminal calculus in Brevard County just shifted.
The truth is, however, that Commissioner Tobia is right. It’s patently wrong to bar employees from carrying a firearm without a damn good reason.
Those working inside the jail don’t carry, but not because they’re not trusted. They don’t carry because they’re surrounded by people who can’t be trusted. As such, it’s smart not to have guns inside jails.
But there’s no reason filling in potholes or dealing with the sewer should be subjected to the same restrictions. None at all. Especially since those duties might take him or her to the worst parts of town. Now, they can deal with threats effectively should they occur. More importantly, though, they now know the county values them as human beings.
Olympic Medalist Files Suit Against Mexifornia Over Bullet Control.
8:30 am Apr/29/18 by Tom Knighton
Mexifornia thought they were onto something. Since they can’t seem to control guns, even though they really keep trying to, they decided to control bullets instead.
The Olympian, who is on the 75-member board of the National Rifle Association, was joined in the lawsuit by its state affiliate, the Mexifornia Rifle & Pistol Association, as well as a number of out of state ammo retailers who can no longer ship their products directly to state resident’s homes under the new rules.
The 31-page lawsuit argues Prop 63, which Second Amendment advocates characterized as “Gunmageddon,” outlaws direct mail order ammunition sales, puts all transfers of ammo under a “burdensome registration scheme,” imposes costly fees and price increases on bullet sales and mires would-be vendors in piles of Sacramento red tape.
As such, it not only violates the Dormant Commerce Clause by discriminating against interstate commerce but also tramples on the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Rhode, who made history in 2016 to become the first woman to medal in six straight Olympics, argues she is required to use special competition ammunition sanctioned by her sport’s governing bodies, which she receives from a training facility in Arizona and brings back into the state. She also regularly has ammo sent to her home, range, and coach by sponsors, needed as she fires an average of 800 rounds daily to keep on top of her game.
Now, with Prop 63, both means of obtaining her needed ammunition are illegal.
The law is interfering with Rhode’s ability to do business. She’s the first woman to medal at six different Olympic games, making her something of a sports hero in this country, and Mexifornia’s law directly impacts her ability to continue to compete.
Her alternative is to leave Mexifornia for another state, which is what she might have to do if the state continues to screw with law-abiding gun owners like this.
Rhode is being prevented from training for her sport because of this law. That is indisputable. Anyone with half a brain knows she is being impacted negatively by this law.
In other words, the people most likely to be impacted by a law like this are lawful shooters. Criminals aren’t that affected. It’s just over three hours from Los Angeles to Arizona by car. If you’re already willing to shoot people, do you really care about crossing state lines with ammunition?
Again, the only people being hurt are people like Rhode who want to be law-abiding citizens but are thwarted by rules that keep them from doing something they should lawfully be able to do.
But then again, it’s Mexifornia. What do you expect?
Representative Pat Meehan announced today that he is resigning – effective immediately – from Congress following allegations he sexually harassed a former staffer. The Philidelphia-area Republican, Pat Meehan said he intends to repay the $39,000 he owes in taxpayer dollars used to settle his harassment case. Roll Call has Meehan's official statement: “While I do believe I would be exonerated of any wrongdoing, I also did not want to put my staff through the rigors of an Ethics Committee investigation and believed it was best for them to have a head start on new employment rather than being caught up in an inquiry,” Meehan said in a statement. “And since I have chosen to resign, the inquiry will not become a burden to taxpayers and committee staff.” Meehan’s resignation will take effect Friday. Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf has 10 days to declare a special election, which must occur at least 60 days after the governor’s announcement. The nominees for a special election are chosen by party leaders, rather than through a direct primary election.
A competitive race is already underway for the open seat in the Philadelphia suburbs, which is now favorable to Democrats after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court imposed a new congressional map. Roll Call's political prognosticators rate the race Likely Democratic.
Many reporters — even those typically associated with left-leaning media outlets — were left shocked and aghast at comedian Michelle Wolf's bizarre and mean-spirited White House Correspondents' Dinner monologue, after the feminist joked about abortion, CNN's Jake Tapper, and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders' weight and appearance as Sanders looked on from her seat at the head table. Wolf, looking straight at Sanders, said she was "excited" that Sanders "was finally able to go to prom," and then excoriated the press secretary for her makeup, choice of outfit, and weight. “She burns facts & then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye. ‘Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies.’ It’s probably lies," Wolf said as Sanders looked on. How very feminist, right? Although the joke appeared to earn Wolf the respect of figures like CNN's Brian Stelter, and progressive icon Joan Walsh — who compared the incident to Stephen Colbert's 2005 "roast" of then-President George W. Bush without understanding that to be a "roast" the subject has to be in on the joke — most WHCD attendees were turned off by Wolf's nastiness, even those reporters for whom Trump is a top target. I wrote this week about the decency deficit, citing Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
I was not at WHCD last night but sounds like the decency deficit was on full display in criticism of her. Attacks on looks have no place. They are not funny.— Ruth Marcus Apr/29/18
On Saturday, President Donald Trump suggested that Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) needed to resign from his position after a new report from the Secret Service revealed that allegations he made against Navy Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson had no factual basis. In a tweet, Trump wrote: "Secret Service has just informed me that Senator Jon Tester’s statements on Admiral Jackson are not true. There were no such findings. A horrible thing that we in D.C. must live with, just like phony Russian Collusion. Tester should lose race in Montana. Very dishonest and sick!" Tester made the allegations in an interview with CNN earlier this week which ultimately led to Jackson withdrawing his name from consideration for the position.
Secret Service statement on the matter:
Over the last 48 hours, media outlets have alleged that U.S. Secret Service personnel were forced to intervene during a Presidential foreign travel assignment in order to prevent disturbing (former) resident barry obuma.
The Secret Service has no such record of any incident; specifically, any incident involving Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson.
A thorough review of internal documents related to all Presidential foreign travel that occurred in 2015, in addition to interviews of personnel who were present during foreign travel that occurred during the same time frame, has resulted in NO information that would indicate the allegation is accurate."
Central American migrants traveling in the 'Migrant Via Crucis' caravan 'demonstrate' at the U.S.-Mexican border at Tijuana's beaches Sunday in Baja California, Mexico.Guillermo Arias.
"As sufficient space and resources become available, CBP officers will be able to take additional individuals into the port for processing," Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said.
The statement offered the first glimpse of a showdown that the 400 or so migrants had been preparing for with the Trump administration.
Central Americans in a caravan of asylum seekers that traveled through Mexico to the border with San Diego have left a cross-border rally as they prepare to turn themselves in to U.S. authorities.
Hundreds of migrants in five old school buses planned to eat lunch Sunday before making a roughly 15-minute walk to San Diego's San Ysidro border crossing, the nation's busiest. Many are fleeing violence in their home countries and will ask the U.S. for asylum.
The caravan got attention after President Donald Trump and members of his Cabinet called it a threat to the United States.
Supporters rallied on both sides of the border with a fence between them. Some climbed the wall to sit or wave signs under the watchful eyes of U.S. Border Patrol agents.
With people rallying on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border to support a caravan of Central American asylum seekers, one of those planning to turn herself in to U.S. authorities says she feels hopeful.
Maria de Los Angeles said Sunday that she felt confident after speaking with an attorney that she'd be released while her case winds through the courts because she was traveling alone with her 1-year-old son.
The 17-year-old hoped to move in with a sister in San Francisco and said she believed "everything will work out." She said she fled her home in Honduras because the father of her son threatened to kill her and their child.
Before buses arrived at the rally Sunday at a fence that reaches to the ocean, about 100 supporters on the Mexican side of the border marched along the beach, shouting "Alerta" (attention) to the sound of a drumbeat.
More than a dozen climbed a roughly 18-foot-high border wall under the watchful eyes of Border Patrol agents. About 50 supporters watched on the U.S. side, where they were held about 20 yards away.
Central American migrants sit on top of the border wall on the beach in San Diego during a gathering of migrants living on both sides of the border, Sunday, April 29, 2018.
Last week, the Trump Administration ordered the National Guard to the border in some states to provide extra support to US Customs and Border Patrol during the illegal immigration "high season." This week, they also announced they're sending a cadre of immigration attorneys and judges to help process members of a "caravan" of asylum seekers, currently crossing Mexico and inching closer to the southern U.S. border. According to the Texas Tribune, legal professionals will begin arriving at the border this week.
When the migrant caravan finally reaches the border, anyone who crosses illegally "will be referred for prosecution."
"Anyone claiming asylum will have their claim processed almost instantly. If their claims are "without merit" they will be deported back to their country of origin. If you enter the United States illegally, let me be clear: you have broken the law. And we will enforce the law through prosecution of illegal border crossers,” the Department of Homeland Security official in charge of the operation told media in a statement.
“DHS encourages persons with asylum or other similar claims to seek protections in the first safe country they enter, including Mexico.” DHS isn't sure how many migrants will make it to the U.S..
At one time, the caravan, which happens every year, had more than 1,500 participants. Most of those people trailed off in Mexico.
A handful were captured trying to cross the border into Mexifornia at Tijuana.
President Trump said Monday he has “instructed” Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen NOT to allow “large caravans of people” into the U.S. as a group of Central American migrants starts to reach the border, calling the situation a “disgrace.” “Despite the Democrat inspired laws on Sanctuary Cities and the Border being so bad and one sided, I have instructed the Secretary of Homeland Security not to let these large Caravans of people into our Country! It is a disgrace!
We are the only Country in the World so naïve! WALL,” Trump tweeted early Monday.
Napolitano Calls the clinton Foundation “Criminal Enterprise". Mar/6/18 While the media has been going on one wild goose chase after another in the hopeless attempt to prove that Donald Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 campaign, the real instances of collusion and corruption have been almost entirely ignored. One person who has certainly not ignored these instances of corruption, though, is former CIA officer and whistleblower Kevin Shipp. In a recent Tweet, Shipp explained that all of the corruption and wrongdoing in the DOJ and FBI can be traced back to one underlying cause – the clinton Foundation. Supposed to be a charity organization, killary clinton has used and abused the clinton Foundation as a way to underhandedly push her political agenda, in highly illegal ways. Kevin Shipp believes that the actions of killary clinton and the clinton Foundation will almost certainly lead to indictment, and the high-profile senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano agrees.
In a recent interview on Fox News, Judge Napolitano called the clinton Foundation a “criminal enterprise”, going on to say that the evidence that bill and killary clinton engaged in multiple illegal activities through the clinton Foundation is beyond compelling. To hear Judge Napolitano explain why he believes that the clinton Foundation is a criminal enterprise as well as to hear his thoughts on the recent gun control legislation that is being pushed.
Following the Parkland Shooting and the immense amount of pressure on the NRA that ensued, many of the NRA’s corporate sponsors have chosen to cut ties with the organization.
By and large, these were financially-oriented decisions as companies began to fear that an association with the NRA would lead to boycotts that would hurt their bottom line. However, what we’re now seeing is that these companies’ decision to cut ties with the NRA may backfire on them in a big way.
According to a study conducted by One America News, the overall favorability ratings of companies that have cut ties with the NRA have dropped, in some cases significantly.
Companies that cater to a majority conservative base such as Yeti have felt the backlash most strongly and now expect their sales to see a significant drop due to boycotts from NRA supporters.
This result is a firm reminder of the fact that no matter how much hate and vitriol the NRA gets in the media or how loud the voices of the minority that opposes them are, the majority of Americans still strongly value their Second Amendment rights.
Companies that cave to the pressure of the left on this issue do so at their own peril.
For more information on the favorability study conducted by One America News and the fallout that companies are facing after cutting ties with the NRA, be sure to check out the video below.
A new report released Friday by the House Intelligence Committee shows there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government to influence the 2016 presidential election. The report, which the intelligence community highly redacted and spans 253 pages, shows the Russians tried to influence the election through propaganda campaigns and details similar efforts in Europe. It lists dozens of findings on a number of relevant issues and shows in January 2017 obuma intelligence officials used the infamous Russian dossier as a way to attack President Trump in the press.
That dossier was paid for by the DNC and the clinton campaign in 2016 and compiled by British spy Christopher Steele. Former DNI James Clapper, now a CNN national security analyst, acknowledged discussing the dossier with CNN journalist Jake Tapper and admitted that he might have spoken with other journalists about the same topic," the report states.
Sen. Cruz Questions Secretary Mattis and General Dunford in the Armed Service Committee on Threats Facing the United States.
Apr/27/18
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, participated in a hearing Thursday with the Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, on the national security challenges facing the United States. Sen. Cruz highlighted the need to ensure U.S. combat superiority in space, to defend against hypersonic weapons from Russia and China – which Secretary Mattis identified as the Department’s number one priority – and to bolster protection of South Korea and Japan from North Korea’s conventional capabilities.
An excerpt of his exchanges are below.
Sen. Cruz: “What would be the national security implications for the United States if Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons?
Secretary Mattis: “I think the implication for the United States and for every nation in the region would be an increased level of danger at a level we have never experienced from this regime.”
Sen. Cruz then shifted his line of questioning to focus on space as a contested domain.
Sen. Cruz: “General Dunford, you have acknowledged that, “Unlike previous eras, when space was considered a benign and unchallenged environment, space is now a contested domain.”
Based on that shared assessment, I introduced language to last year’s NDAA, which my colleagues on this committee supported, that officially labeled space a combat domain and called for a policy to develop and field an integrated system of assets to protect our space-based capabilities, to deter or deny attacks in space, and defend the US homeland, our allies, and deployed forces.
In your judgment, what is the United States’ greatest military comparative advantage in space, relative to Russia and China?
General Dunford: “Senator I think there’s really a few if you don’t mind me listing them. One is obviously, we leverage space for our command and control systems, we leverage it for navigation and that also includes our ability to deliver precision munitions and the other area we leverage it for is the area of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
You know for example when North Korea was doing testing, to put a finer point on it, the first indication we had that there was a missile test came from our space-based assets. We do leverage space for some core capabilities of the department.
Sen. Cruz: “What are our greatest vulnerabilities? And what are we doing and should we be doing you taking to mitigate those vulnerabilities?”
General Dunford: “What we see with China and Russia and to some degree some other countries, they developed the ability to jam our systems, they developed the ability to laze or blind our systems are some of the biggest challenges.
One that was referred to earlier is that we have a lot of space junk out there that puts at risk our targets and as that increases it becomes a greater threat as well, so those would be the three that I’d highlight.”
On Thursday, Secretary of Defense James Mattis told the Senate Armed Services Committee that he ordered Russian mercenaries in Syria to be annihilated once he found out that they were not part of the Russian military. Mattis revealed that the military used a deconfliction line with Russia to make sure that forces with which they were engaged in conflict were not part of the Russian military.
Once the military received confirmation from Russia, Mattis ordered U.S. military forces to destroy the Russian mercenaries, The Washington Free Beacon reported. "The Russian high command in Syria assured us it was not their people, and my direction to the chairman was for the force, then, to be annihilated," Mattis said. "And it was." Mattis added that at this point he couldn't attribute responsibility for who was behind the Russian mercenaries to the Russian government, noting that there are multiple forces involved in the operations in Syria.
The administration succeeded in enacting the most stringent sanctions regime yet imposed on North Korea -- and crucially got more buy in from China for more pressure on its nominal ally North Korea than ever before.
If those sanctions are indeed behind North Korea's decision to come to the table, Trump's effusive praise of China's President Xi Jinping during a state visit last year, for which he was widely criticized, could be validated.
Given the stakes, and the chance of averting what could be a murderous war on the Korean peninsula, it's possible that even in Washington's divisive political climate, everyone might be rooting for Trump to succeed.
“Everyone might be rooting for Trump to succeed,” I wish I could believe that, but I’m not holding my breathe. From the Democratic-media complex to a cadre of government officials—mostly obuma holdovers—leaking sensitive information to the press to hamstring the administration, and the recent character assassination of Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson, Trump’s Veterans Affairs secretary nominee, a lot of behind the scenes politicking could happen.
On top of what could be a long and arduous diplomatic journey with the Koreas, the Trump White House has to deal with a hostile press corps at home and a political party that will do just about anything to destroy his agenda.
We’ll see, but Trump winning a Nobel Prize would be a popcorn-worthy event. Here’s a man that many on the Left thought would bring war and misery to the world.
If Trump could pull this off, the U.S. would indeed be winning, so much winning we might get tired of it, right?
The Korean War is coming to an end. It’s the conclusion of the last major chapter of the Cold War. Both sides said there’s an agreement on a peace treaty and the denuclearization of the peninsula.
It’s something that has eluded the Bush and Obama administrations. Funny—Trump mocks North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, called him “rocket man,” and sets off a panic among Democratic circles that his tweets could set off nuclear world war III. Why?
Because North Korea threatened to do so, which they’ve done for years. It shouldn’t be taken seriously—and it wasn’t; the markets really didn’t have seismic shifts over this.
Everyone thought Trump was mishandling this crisis, and in the end, both sides have agreed to officially end the war.
So, once again the media and the Democrats were wrong.
Could you imagine how the Left would react if he were to win it?
President obuma won it and he escalated a war in Afghanistan, failed to confront ISIS, and dithered on Syria!
obuma did nothing when the Russians annexed Crimea!
Did nothing when chemical weapons were used in Syria as well.
Who does South Korea give immense credit for bringing North Korea to the bargaining table? Donald J. Trump. Besides the Twitter exchanges, the Trump White House slapped North Korea with a series of sanctions over missile tests. And this isn’t just South Korea, or conservative media, saying Trump deserves credit, CNN admits it as well:
Any way you cut it, President Donald Trump is entitled to significant credit for Friday's historic opening between the two Koreas.
The summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in keeps alive the possibility of a legacy win for Trump that would rank as one of the top presidential achievements since World War II.
If he were to preside over the verifiable destruction of the North's nuclear and missile programs, formally end the 1950-53 Korean War and usher in the destruction of the world's last Cold War-era frontier, Trump would claim a feat that has eluded all of his most recent predecessors.
Earlier, Matt covered all the reasons why President Donald J. Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize and why Democrats would be apoplectic if it actually happened.
President Donald J. Trump. Besides the Twitter exchanges, the Trump White House slapped North Korea with a series of sanctions over missile tests."
It seems that President Trump's base would agree with that assessment as well. Last night at his rally in Michigan, the crowd began chanting "Nobel! Nobel! Nobel!" as if they were chanting "MVP!" at a professional sporting event.
Illegal Caravan Storms The Border.
4/30/18 Daily Wire by: Joseph Curl
More than 200 refugees from Central America who have moved in a caravan across Mexico have gathered at the U.S. border in Tijuana.
Some scaling the border fence and taunting U.S. officials while shouting "Gracias, Mexico!"
In a nod to former resident barry obuma, dozens also chanted “Si Se Puede!” (Yes We Can!) from atop the fence.
The caravan started out with some 1,500 refugees from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, and the hundreds that have reached the U.S. border plan to apply for asylum in the U.S.
Pro-immigration groups have dispatched lawyers to Tijuana to help instruct the refugees on how to get into the country.
Mexico has allowed the refugees to move unimpeded through the country, which prompted their gratitude.
The migrants are climbing the fence and cheering
"Gracias, México!" That's mexican for 'thanks'.
The disrespect for our borders, and for our country, is beyond belief. This is an attempt at invasion!
4.) The Mueller Investigation Is Running On Fumes;
So-called "Russia Collusion" has been investigated for over a year, with the only result being that Americans have had their time wasted in an attempt to stop President Trump from draining the swamp.
Nobody in the Trump campaign has been implicated in rigging the election, and the entire episode happened because obuma officials like james comey used killary's opposition research to justify warrants to spy on the Trump campaign.
Unless Mueller pulls a rabbit out of his hat, Democrats are running out of time to use this as a political issue.
5.) Dirty Tricks May Backfire On Democrats;
Democrats have been engaged in guerrilla warfare to stop Trump at any cost. The DNC is suing the Trump campaign, Wikileaks and the Russian Government, which could result in Trump or Wikileaks' lawyers exposing more Democrat corruption, as they are left vulnerable in the discovery process.
If this, or more evidence comes to light that the Democrats damaged the American political system with phony scandals, their name will be mud with midterm voters, and their base's enthusiasm will plummet.
New York firefighter vacationing in North Carolina rescues 3 girls from rip current.
By Paulina Dedaj | Fox News
A New York firefighter is being hailed as a hero after rescuing three young girls caught in a rip current along a a North Carolina beachfront. The save came just two days after a 4-year-old boy was swept out to sea off the same coast.
Sean O’Gorman from the Oswego Fire Department, was vacationing with his family in Emerald Isle, N.C., on Thursday when he noticed two girls in the water who appeared unable to return to shore. A third girl who was attempting to save them also became stuck.
O’Gorman said he ran to the girls’ mother, who then called 911.
Deciding not to wait for help, O’Gorman swam out to the girls himself.
SEARCH SUSPENDED FOR BOY, 4, SWEPT AWAY TO SEA OFF NORTH CAROLINA COAST.
"We were sitting, watching the girls playing in the water about 75 yards out, and I noticed they stopped trying to get back to the shore, and I think they were caught in a rip current,” O’Gorman told The Charlotte Observer.
“I decided to swim out, which was easy. Getting back was a struggle, with me trying to tow them all in. They were hooked onto my feet."
The firefighter, who will turn 52 in the coming days, said the girls “did not panic,” and he believed that the local fire department “would’ve gotten to them” had he not gone out.
Oswego Fire Department confirmed on Facebook that O’Gorman completed swift water rescue training just last week, and by “using the aggressive swim, forceful crawl stroke,” he was able to reach the struggling swimmers.
SWIFT WATER TRAINING PAYS OFF!
Oswego Firefighter/Medic Sean O’Gorman recently completed swift water rescue training in Auburn last week.
Today he saved three girls who were caught in a rip current off the of coast of Emerald Isle, North Carolina while on vacation with his family. Using the aggressive swim, forceful crawl stroke he learned in training he was able to reach the girls where their father was unable, even on a surf board.
By the time firefighters from Emerald Isle arrived FF O’Gorman had everyone out of the water safe.
Each year, approximately 100 people lose their lives in rip currents.
Deputy Fire Chief for Emergency Management Justin Norfleet told Fox news that their department trains “extensively for marine operations including swift water rescue, ice rescue and dive operations.” He said they are responsible for the shores of Lake Ontario in Central New York and the Oswego River.
News of the rescue comes just one day after police in Kitty Hawk, N.C., called off the search for a missing 4-year-old who was swept out to sea while walking hand-in-hand with his mother along the beach.
The unidentified boy, said to be from New Hampshire, was swept out by a rip current just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
In suspending the search a day later, police said they have “now transitioned to recovery efforts.”
The boy had yet to be found at the time of publication on Friday night.
Six MS-13 members indicted in NJ for murder and plots to kill 2 others.
An indictment returned this weeks details an MS-13 killing that occurred on July 1, 2015, in West New York, N.J.
Six members of the violent MS-13 gang have been indicted in New Jersey on murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges.
It alleges that the murder was authorized by a high-ranking MS-13 member, Christian Linares-Rodriguez, 38. who is behind bars in El Salvador.
Other charges in the indictment include racketeering and extortion.
“Our office has been pursuing and successfully prosecuting the members of the violent transnational gang MS-13 for the crimes they have committed in New Jersey and elsewhere,” Newark U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said in a news release.
“The facts described in the indictment returned today make it clear why: This is a vicious organization with no regard for human life or for the laws of our country.”
The attorney for Garcia-Gomez said his client maintains his innocence and will plead not guilty when he is arraigned, the Bergen Record reported Thursday.
The Hudson Reporter posted an article at the time of the murder that identifed Garcia-Gomez’s victim as 19-year-old Jose Lazaro Urias-Hernandez.
Ex-clerk who donned judge's robe found dead before trial.
The former nurse drew headlines and ridicule around Chicago after word spread she'd donned black judge's robes on Aug. 11, 2016, and presided over traffic cases that should've been heard by a real judge.
Early that year, she had won a primary for an open county judgeship.
Her lawyer, Rob Robertson, told the Chicago Tribune Friday he didn't know how his client had died.
"Rhonda was a truly great person who led an incredibly good life and wound up caught in a situation that was well beyond what it should have been," he said.
Even after the incident, Crawford went on to win the general election that year. But her license had been suspended and the Illinois Supreme Court prohibited her being sworn in to $180,000-a-year judge's job.
Actual judge, Valarie Turner was removed from the bench.
During disciplinary hearings, Crawford described being shocked when another judge approached her in a hallway shortly after she took the robe off.
The judge sounded angry, asking, "What would you put your career on the line like this?" Crawford responded, "I didn't know I was."
After she was charged criminally, many observers, including Chicago Sun-Time columnist Mark Brown, agreed Crawford wasn't fit for a judgeship. But Brown also wrote that "the criminal charges are an unnecessary bit of piling on."
ALERT Trump Cleared By House Intel Report.
4/27/18 Town Hall by Katy Pavlich
A new report released Friday by the House Intelligence Committee shows there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government to influence the 2016 presidential election.
The report, which the intelligence community highly redacted and spans 253 pages, shows the Russians tried to influence the election through propaganda campaigns and details similar efforts in Europe.
It lists dozens of findings on a number of relevant issues and shows in January 2017 obuma intelligence officials used the infamous Russian dossier as a way to attack President Trump in the press.
That dossier was paid for by the DNC and the clinton campaign in 2016 and compiled by British spy Christopher Steele.
“Former DNI James Clapper, now a CNN national security analyst, acknowledged discussing the dossier with CNN journalist Jake Tapper and admitted that he might have spoken with other journalists about the same topic," the report states.
On Friday, a newly-declassified congressional report on Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. elections revealed that obuma's Director of National Intelligence (DNI) leaked information about the infamous anti-Trump dossier to CNN's Jake Tapper, lied about it to Congress, and then was rewarded with a contract at CNN a few months later.
The Federalist's Sean Davis notes that the revelations about former DNI James Clapper were made in a new 253-page report from the House Intelligence Committee.
“Clapper flatly denied ‘discussing[ing] the dossier or any other intelligence related to Russia hacking of the 2016 election with journalists,'” the committee found.
Clapper explicitly told Congress that he had never discussed the dossier with any journalists.
As Davis notes, Clapper later changed his story when he was confronted about his communications with Tapper.
Graham praised Trump for the stunning progress made in getting North and South Korea leaders to meet Thursday to discuss denuclearization.
It wouldn't have happened without Trump!," Graham said Friday.
“The fact that the North Korean and the South Korean president met and they vowed to end the war.
Young America's Foundation Scores Victory Against Berkeley.
“Young America’s Foundation looks forward to moving on to the merits of this case and vigorously defending our claims at trial. This ruling allowing YAF’s critical First Amendment case to move forward is a win for conservatives and free speech, and it shows that Judge Chesney believes there is significant evidence of Berkeley’s work to suppress conservative speech," Young America’s Foundation spokesman Spencer Brown released in a statement. “Conservative students will finally have their day in court, and we are confident that the outcome of this case will be the restoration of students’ First Amendment rights at the University of California, Berkeley.”
The lawsuit against Berkeley is backed by the Department of Justice, which issued a statement of interest for the case in January.
“This Department of Justice will not stand by idly while public universities violate students’ constitutional rights,” former Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand said about the statement of interest at the time.
YAF filed the lawsuit late last year after the university repeatedly forced conservative students to pay extreme security fees to host speakers or face cancellation of their events. The university has special requirements and hurdles for conservative speakers that are not required for those who espouse leftist ideology.
"UC Berkeley has used its infamous unwritten and unpublished High Profile Speaker Policy to repeatedly suppress conservative speech on campus.
In Wednesday’s ruling, the court found sufficient factual allegations for YAF’s First Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment claims to move forward to trial," YAF released in a statement. "At trial, Berkeley will also have to answer for its unconstitutional application of the Major Events policy surrounding Young America’s Foundation’s breakthrough lecture with Ben Shapiro that took place last September.
The court found YAF’s arguments persuasive, regarding Berkeley’s use of security fees to suppress conservative speech."
Big Updates From President Trump's Meeting With German Chancellor.
April 27, 2018
President Trump met Friday with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, giving updates on several key issues facing the two countries, and other critical foreign policy issues. Here are the biggest stories coming out of their joint press event.
1. President Trump congratulated the leaders of North and South Korea after a historic summit and said his meeting with Kim will be in the “coming weeks.” The president promised that a “maximum pressure” campaign will continue “until denuclearization occurs.” North and South Korea pledged an official end to the decades long Korean War.
2. President Trump pressed the Germans and other NATO allies to increase their defense spending. The chancellor pledged to be a reliable partner, but acknowledged Germany’s shortfall, at only 1.3 percent of GDP of the pledged 2 percent.
3. President Trump also remarked that the World Trade Organization has treated the U.S. poorly. He calls for “fair and reciprocal trade relationships with our friends and allies.” He told the German leader directly that it wasn’t her fault, but America seeks to lower the trade deficit, for which Trump lays blame on previous administrations.
4. The president said he may attend the opening of the new embassy in Jerusalem in May. He stated that he was able to reduce the cost of construction from $1 billion to $3-400,000.
5. President Trump says he won’t discuss the use of military force, but he decisively warned Iran: “They are not going to be doing nuclear weapons. You can bank on it.”
More Women Signing Up For Concealed Carry Class.
Apr/27/18 by Tom Knighton
Anti-gunners like to paint concealed carry as the domain of beer-swilling, minority-hating, 'wannabe Rambo Males' looking for an opportunity to blow someone away. Much of their anti-gun rhetoric is based around this idea.
It's all based on misconstrued data or outright fabrications.
However, they really need to update their version of reality.
In a statement released Monday, the National Carry Academy says the number of women taking concealed-carry courses has spiked by 24% since the February 14 shooting.
In an interview with The Federalist, NCA CEO Chris Schutrop said an increasing number of women have been arming themselves over the past three years, but the Parkland shooting especially hit a nerve among women.
“There’s a greater chance they can protect themselves if they are carrying a firearm and are trained to use it,” Schutrop said. “It’s a tangible way that they can make a difference to help others and help themselves.”
That’s awesome. Seriously.
While concealed carry wouldn’t have prevented Parkland, it may well have helped at countless other mass shootings!
It wouldn’t have helped in Parkland simply because concealed carry wasn’t allowed on school campuses in Florida!
Based on the anti-gun push down that way, it’s unlikely that’s going to change any time soon.
But even taking the extremely rare possibility of mass shooting off the table, concealed carry is a massive benefit to women. While some circles like to pretend that women are capable of literally everything a man can do, there are exceptions.
For example, the average woman is physically weaker than the average man. That puts women at a disadvantage when it comes to violence, where strength is an important factor. - Unless that is, she has a gun.
You only need to muster a few pounds of pressure with your finger to pull a trigger, and that’s an incredible equalizer when you’re asking a 120-pound woman to defend herself against a 250-pound aggressive male.
I think most women recognize that fact, and many are looking at how to mitigate those differences. - That means a firearm. Plain and simple.
One comment about the NCA’s numbers is that it only accounts for increases in concealed carry courses.
It doesn’t account for a spike in states that don’t require a course before issuing a permit. I’d wager that you’d see as big, if not a bigger, spike there.
After all, women who might be intimidated by a concealed carry class might skip the process. If they didn’t have to sit through one, they might just pick up the permit.
Of course, it’s impossible to know the gender breakdown of concealed carry, but I’m glad to see this news. I’m a husband and a father of a young daughter. One of my greatest fears is something happening to my wife or little girl and me not being there to try and protect them.
The idea of the average concealed carrier changing to include more women means other fathers can deal with that fear a little bit better than before as their little girls, now all grown up, can protect themselves.
Women in Mississippi Are Educating Themselves on How to Use a Firearm.
May/24/17 by Erika Haas
Women in Mississippi are taking their personal protection into their own hands by exercising their right to bear arms.
Lori Shelton, who always considered herself anti-gun, decided to take a firearms training course after her home was broken into just last month.
“I was always anti-gun,” she told News Channel 3. “I wasn’t really scared of them, I just decided I wanted to be anti-gun, and what a difference 24-hours makes.”
“I was getting ready for work, doing my normal routine, and I heard a noise as I was getting out of the shower,” Shelton recalled. “I peeked through the blinds…and saw him looking at me. I mean we made complete eye contact,” Shelton said. “He proceeded to come through the back of the house, and I ran back and dialed 911.”
Her daughter was sleeping upstairs during the incident.
While police arrived in minutes, it took over an hour to locate the suspect.
According to Shelton, the intruder not only stole some of her antiques but her sense of security.
“It’s really hard. You don’t think about standing at the sink washing dishes, but with every dish that I wash, I’m constantly turning and looking over my shoulder to see if somebody is looking in,” she told News Channel 3.
It’s for that reason that Shelton decided to educate herself on guns, and is currently working toward getting her pistol permit and her own firearm.
She not only goes to the range for target practice but has enrolled in a firearms training course that teaches her how to load, shoot, store and clean a gun. She even takes her 15-years-old daughter along so she, too, knows how to protect herself.
Firearms instructor, Donna Hollway, says the course has had over 200 female students since it started last year; that’s about 50% of all participants.
“We have a large group of women that want to learn more about their weapon, want to be comfortable with it, want to be able to protect themselves and their family,” Holloway told News Channel 3. “Policemen and their husbands are not always going to be there to protect them, so they need to learn how to protect themselves when they’re out doing their daily lives.”
Judith Starks has also enrolled herself in the firearms training course.
It’s taken her more than twenty years – her home was broken into in 1993 – but Starks said she’s finally ready to learn how to defend herself.
“The thing that held me back was the fear. But now that the way the world has changed, I’m not going to be fearful anymore,” she said. “Let the fear go, get these lessons.”
Holloway reminds us: “Every woman is capable of doing this.”
So get out their girls, and learn how to defend yourselves and your loved ones!
New Legislation Aims to Put Firearms Education in Wisconsin High Schools.
July/13/17 by Jenn Jacques
Well, hallelujah, what wonders never cease!
On June 30, 2017, 18 Wisconsin Representatives and 5 State Senators introduced Assembly Bill 427, common sense legislation aimed at putting firearms education into high schools across the Dairy State.
The bill would require the state superintendent of public instruction to work with the Department of Natural Resources, a law enforcement agency, or an organization that specializes in firearms safety to develop a curriculum for a comprehensive firearm education course to be offered as an elective to high school pupils.
It would not require any school district to offer the course and would prohibit the presence or use of live ammunition.
Lead author of the bill, Representative Ken Skowronski (R-Waukesha) has been participating in shooting sports since the age or 12 and was inspired to draft the bill after seeing a rise in trap shooting clubs throughout Wisconsin.
“What we’re doing is allowing the high schools to offer an elective as a choice,” Skowronski said. “It can be yearlong, a quarter or a semester. It’s up to the school.”
The legislation drew quick criticism from hoplophobes like State Rep. Sondy Pope (D-Mt. Horeb), who thinks students should learn about gun safety somewhere other than in schools “because it is not the responsibility of the school district.”
“I know Wisconsin is a hunting state, I grew up in a hunting family, but I think it denotes something completely different, especially with handguns, in an urban setting,” Pope said.
Pope then inadvertently made a case to pass the legislation, saying, “I think we are all aware of the proliferation of death and injury because of the accessibility of guns in our society. I don’t see a reason to introduce guns to students in school,” before she concluded, “I think it’s inappropriate.”
If schools were to offer a firearm safety course which would greatly curtail “the proliferation of death and injury” from guns in our society, wouldn’t that be a good thing and an appropriate response to the issue?
Now if only we could get the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program in every school across the United States, then we’d really be taking a tremendous step toward gun safety in every town of America.
But that, of course, would make entirely too much sense!
Iowa Passes First Hurdle in Guaranteeing Gun Rights in the State.
Mar/31/18 by Patrick Richardson
As states across the country are considering new gun legislation in the wake of the Parkland shooting, and the feds are considering bans on accessories like “bump stocks” (which have been used in exactly one incident), Iowa is planning to let its voters decide what to do next.
Senators voted 34-15 to approve House Joint Resolution 2009, a one-page document that proposes a constitutional amendment providing that the right of people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed by government.
All 28 Republicans, one independent and five Democrats voted for the resolution, while 15 Democrats opposed it.
“The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes this right to be a fundamental individual right,” according to the resolution, which the Iowa House approved, 54-42, last week. “Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.”
Strict scrutiny is the most stringent method of judicial review, meaning that the courts must weigh the government’s compelling interest in a law with — in this case — possible infringements on the Constitution, with greater weight given to the Constitution, rather than the government.
Generally speaking, a law will fail the Constitutional test when strict scrutiny is applied. Of course, the Democrats in Iowa are flipping out:
Sen. Matt McCoy, D-Des Moines, said majority Republicans in the Iowa Senate were “tone deaf” to the concerns of Iowans in the wake of school shootings and the “kitchen table” financial issues they face by taking up a constitutional amendment that is “a distraction,” when they should be passing a state budget and tackling other higher priorities.
Because actually protecting the rights of law-abiding Iowans shouldn’t be a high priority, apparently.
If this passes, Iowa will join 44 other states which have language in their state constitutions protecting the right to keep and bear arms. However, only three include “strict scrutiny” language.
The fact that nearly every other state in the nation including Alabama, Louisiana, and Missouri, which all require the strict scrutiny standard, have found it necessary to include this language in their constitutions should be a wake-up call to Iowa Democrats.
And for that matter, gun grabbers across the country. The right to keep and bear arms is personal and important to the majority of the country!
This is not a done deal in Iowa, as this same language must be passed again by both houses next year. If it passes the second round, the measure will be before voters in November 2020.
Iowa voters, get to the phones and let your legislators know this is important to you.
“This bill would increase student safety by prohibiting public schools from offering marksmanship programs or other programs that allow students to possess and discharge firearms on school property.”
Notice how she tries to tie the marksmanship team at Parkland with the shooter? She fails to note that, had the school and police have done their jobs, he not only wouldn’t have had a place on the team, but he also wouldn’t have been able to buy a guy.
Through the years, countless kids have gone through various marksmanship programs at their schools. Parkland is the first known case where someone affiliated with those teams has done anything like this. Once again, though, the anti-gunners want to punish everyone for the act of a single individual.
And let’s not forget that the claim, “research shows that an increase in guns leads to an increase in gun injuries and deaths,” is bogus and based on faulty methodology.
That study didn’t just look at lawful gun-owning households, but also included a fair number of criminals. These are people where yes, a gun was in the home, but its presence had nothing to do with the shooting that later followed.
Further, if you’re worried about gun safety, why on Earth would you make it more difficult for a kid to learn how to handle a firearm in a safe manner?
Of course, it’s not about safety. It’s about thinking guns are icky and wanting nothing to do with them while at the same time, wanting to signal that you’re a good little Democrat.
While there are a ton of schools out there so terrified of anything resembling a gun that they punish kids over Pop-Tarts.
There are also schools with rifle and archery teams. They teach kids a lot of important lessons, such as responsibility, discipline, and patience, just to name a few.
However, a New York bill would strip schools of these teams.
A state lawmaker from New York City has authored a bill that would end riflery, trap shooting and archery as a sport in public schools.
Assemblywoman Linda B. Rosenthal, a Democrat who represents the 67th Assembly District in western Manhattan, introduced the bill on April 20. At this point, there is no co-sponsor for it in the state Senate.
The bill, A10428, which was sent to the Assembly’s Education Committee, would amend the state’s Education Law and calls for the “prohibition of marksmanship and/or shooting programs in public schools” – a change that “shall take effect immediately.”
Rosenthal’s bill, covering “marksmanship and/or shooting programs,” includes “any competitive or recreational shooting activities involving proficiency tests of accuracy, precision and speed in using various types of ranged weapons, such as firearms and air gun, in forms such as handguns, rifles and shotguns and/or bows or crossbows.”
In her memo describing the need for the bill, Rosenthal wrote:
“Marksmanship programs in public schools were once popular, but a rise in gun violence and school shootings in recent years has spurred a long overdue. re-evaluation of their place in our students curriculum. A number of schools which still operate marksmanship programs do so through grants from the National Rifle Association, including Parkland, Fla. high school where a former student and marksmanship team member murdered 17 students and teachers in February 2018.
“In 1990, Congress passed the Gun Free School Zones Act to prohibit the possession of firearms on school grounds, but left exemptions for police officers and school security as well as students possessing firearms as part of an approved school program. Research shows that an increase in guns leads to an increase in gun injuries and deaths, whether intentional or not. To create a true, gun-free school zone we cannot allow students to possess and discharge firearms on school property.
All of these measures are significant.
They underscore a real policy shift in the South away from the hard-line approach taken by its previous president, Park Geun-hye. Moon clearly is interested in pursuing a less volatile relationship with the North on several fronts and appears unwilling to put all of that on hold until Kim agrees to some sort of quick and complete denuclearization.
He also seemed to steer well away from human rights issues, which have been all but forgotten in the shadow of the North's nuclear program. That's a bit of a blow to Tokyo, which has been largely sidelined lately and was hoping that Moon would bring up the matter of what happened to Japanese abducted by North Korea in the 1970s and '80s.
More importantly, the softer approach, while helping many South Koreans breathe easier after the exceptionally high tensions of last year, puts Seoul and Washington on conflicting paths.
But the messaging from the White House remains ambiguous. Trump has suggested Pyongyang must demonstrate a commitment to denuclearization before his policy of maximum pressure on the North can change.
Moon, on the other hand, seems willing for the most part to kick the nuclear issue down the road. He signed off on a pledge with Kim to seek the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula — a phrase that sounds good on the surface but has very little practical meaning without the inclusion of specific measures, time frames and even a definition of exactly what the word "denuclearization" means.
This is where the obligatory mention of the devil being in the details comes in.
The United States hasn't kept nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula since the early 1990s.
But for Pyongyang, denuclearization has generally been taken to mean the removal of South Korea from Washington's "nuclear umbrella." That would mean Washington must somehow assure Kim that his country is safe from a nuclear attack — and that's a very complicated thing to do.
Maybe that will all become clear when Kim and Trump meet.
But so far, neither has offered any realistic, detailed proposals.
AP Analysis: Korea summit puts nuclear ball in Trump's court.
4/28/18 AP News
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — After a summit high on theatrics, emotional displays of Korean reconciliation and some important but familiar sounding plans to boost bilateral relations, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has safely returned to Pyongyang and South Korean President Moon Jae-in to his official residence in Seoul.
But is buyer's remorse about to set in?
Despite its feel-good emphasis on relationship-building, the first inter-Korean summit in more than a decade left a lot of question marks around the biggest and most contentious agenda item of them all: denuclearization. And that puts the ball squarely in the court of President Donald Trump, whose much anticipated sit-down with Kim is expected to be just weeks away.
For Moon and Kim, that was probably a feature, not a bug. They were both looking to make a show of Korean unity. But it could complicate matters for Trump, who has raised expectations of a deal with Kim to abandon his nuclear weapons much higher. In the long run, that could complicate things for everyone involved.
For sure, Friday's daylong summit inside the Demilitarized Zone that divides the Koreas was a major step forward for diplomacy and could set a more solid foundation for future, more substantive talks. Starting off with a meeting that establishes goodwill and personal relationships at the highest level is a smart move, particularly when there is so much animosity in the air.
Moon also proved he really knows how to put on a show — and Kim revealed his skill at playing along for the cameras.
The two seemed almost like old pals, hugging and holding hands, sitting off to themselves on a footbridge in the Demilitarized Zone for a private "chat" that lasted nearly a half hour. As they exchanged their first handshake, Moon motioned for Kim to cross the concrete slab that marks the division of the nation — a hugely symbolic, albeit highly choreographed, moment.
Kim then went off script, according to South Korean officials, and motioned for Moon to take a step back and join him in the North. The seemingly impromptu dance seemed to encapsulate the reality — some might say absurdity — of their nation's division along the 38th parallel, a decision made not by Koreans themselves but by a U.S. military trying to counter Soviet expansion after Japan's defeat in World War II.
The summit follows meetings between Kim's father, Kim Jong Il, with South Korean presidents in 2007 and 2000. Each produced similar sounding vows to reduce tensions, replace the current armistice that ended the fighting in the 1950-53 Korean War and expand cross-border engagement.
One difference from Friday's summit was the pledge by Kim and Moon to officially declare an end to the conflict this year.
They also announced a series of engagement measures. They will set up a liaison office in the North Korean city of Kaesong, which is near the border and is the site of a now shuttered industrial complex that had for years been the biggest joint project between the two countries. Moon will visit Pyongyang in the fall, high-level military talks will be held next month and reunions will be arranged for families separated by the war.
A Los Angeles Police Officer is facing federal charges and a lengthy prison sentence after authorities caught him trying to smuggle two illegal immigrants across the border.
U.S. Border Patrol arrested Officer Mambasse Koulabalo Patara early Tuesday morning at a checkpoint near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego County.
CBS 2 Explains:
According to the complaint, at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, Patara drove up to the checkpoint with two male passengers in a 2006 Toyota Corolla.
While being interviewed by Border Patrol agents, Koulabalo showed them his LAPD badge and stated he was off-duty, the complaint states.
Agents later patted him down and found his service-issued gun in his waistband, the complaint reads.
Koulabalo reportedly told border agents his two passengers were U.S. citizens. The men, identified as Herman Lopez and his nephew German Ramirez Gonzalez, eventually admitted they were in the country illegally.
One of the men said they had known Koulabalo for years and had worked for him at his Fontana home. He added they had decided to go to a casino in Alpine in southern San Diego County, before heading to another one in Campo and ending up at the border checkpoint near Pine Valley.
If convicted, Koulabalo could serve up to five years behind bars.
Several people appearing to shoot up drugs at a San Francisco rail station were caught on camera in a video published Friday by Fox News.
The recording reportedly shows an ongoing problem in the California city, particularly at places of transit like the underground rail stations.
“I walk this [Bay Area Rapid Transit] Station every day and it can be a scary place at times,” resident Shannon Gafford, who recorded the scenes over the course of a week, wrote on Facebook. “I’m tired of our city and state officials acting like this is such a great place with No Problems!
As you can see, this looks a lot like Hell.”
Other people visible in the video seem to be unconscious, throwing up, or slumped over in a drug-induced snooze!
San Francisco commuters say they are forced to go around their fellow citizens to get to their destinations as the impaired lay and meander.
North Korea May Have Already Unleashed a Global Nuclear Disaster.
4/27/18 Source: AAN
As the world prepares for talks aimed at denuclearizing North Korea, scientists report the dictatorship may have already unleashed a worldwide nuclear threat.
"North Korea’s mountain nuclear test site has collapsed, putting China and other nearby nations at unprecedented risk of radioactive exposure, two separate groups of Chinese scientists studying the issue have confirmed," The South China Morning Post reports.
"One group of researchers found that the most recent blast tore open a hole in the mountain, which then collapsed upon itself," the SCMP reports.
Observers have speculated for months the Mount Mantap site at Punggye-ri was near collapse, and there were unconfirmed reports in 2017 of a series of massive tunnel collapses killing hundreds of North Korean laborers.
Those suspicions were heightened when North Korea last week offered to end nuclear tests, raising dictator Kim Jong Un only made the offer because the site could no longer be used.
But the collapse is anything but welcome news that nuclear disaster has been averted.
In fact, it may unleash a global radioactive monster.
"The breakdown created a ‘chimney’ that could allow radioactive fallout from the blast zone below to rise into the air," the SCMP reports. "Radioactive dust could escape through holes or cracks in the damaged mountain, the scientists said."
That radioactive dust could rise into the atmosphere and disperse over a wide area.
"So far we have not detected an abnormal increase of radioactivity levels," Guo Qiuju, a Peking University professor and Chinese government adviser, tells the SCMP.
"But we will continue to monitor the surrounding region with a large [amount] of highly sensitive equipment and analyze the data in state-of-the-art laboratories."
The Associated Press reports that a Texas voter ID law has been upheld by a US Court of Appeals.
“Texas' voter ID law that was twice blocked over findings of discrimination can stay in effect for the 2018 elections, a U.S. appeals court ruled Friday.
It was the second major ruling over voting rights in the U.S. this week after an Arkansas judge on Thursday blocked that state's voter ID measure as unconstitutional.
But in a 2-1 decision by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, the Texas law that critics have slammed as one of the toughest voter ID measures in the nation was seen as a suitable replacement for the original 2011 law that a federal judge had likened to a "poll tax" on minority voters.
The biggest change to the Texas law — which accepts handgun licenses as sufficient identification to vote, but not college student IDs — is that voters without any acceptable photo ID can still cast a ballot so long as they sign an affidavit.
Opponents and a federal judge in Texas balked at the revisions, saying criminal penalties tied to lying on the affidavit could have a chilling effect on voters.”
Democrats have long argued that state voter ID laws are racist because in their view minorities are less likely to be able to obtain identification.
Republicans argue that since identification is required for nearly everything these days, it would make sense that arguably one of the most important civic duties would also require ID.
According to CNN, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised the decision!
From CNN:
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised the decision, saying the revised law "removes any burden on voters who cannot obtain a photo ID."
"The court rightly recognized that when the Legislature passed Senate Bill 5 last session, it complied with every change the 5th Circuit ordered to the original voter ID law," Paxton said in a statement. "Safeguarding the integrity of our elections is essential to preserving our democracy."
Florida County Allows Government Workers With Permits To Carry While Working.
8:30 am Apr/28/18 by Tom Knighton
People who work for county governments sometimes go into some sketchy places. It can be bad enough that I’ve had more than one tell me they wish they could carry a gun for their protection. I mean, it’s not like government workers ever get murdered while working, right? Well, there was that one time. Oh, yeah, then there was that other time.
Okay, so maybe it happens.
The truth of the matter is, county workers have the same God-given right to self-defense the rest of us have. Simply being on the clock shouldn’t change that.
Down in Florida, at least one county seems to get that.
Commissioners in Brevard County voted unanimously Tuesday to allow employees with concealed carry permits to carry guns on the job.
The commission voted 5-0 during their regular Board of County Commissioners meeting.
The new policy takes effect immediately. Any of the county’s more than 2,000 concealed-weapons-permitted employees can now carry a firearm on the job.
“These are law-abiding citizens,” Commissioner John Tobia said. “For one reason or another, this previous county commission had said they don’t deserve the right to have their gun at work. I disagreed with that, and thankfully, this board changed that policy,” Tobia said.
Tobia had previously made the proposal to allow Brevard employees to have guns on the job. It required commissioners to amend a previous policy banning those who did not serve in law enforcement or in security positions.
“To disenfranchise them for a right we provide our public is, I think, patently wrong,” Tobia said.
The policy does not apply to what’s called the county’s five elected “constitutional officers,” including the sheriff, and also doesn’t affect Brevard School District employees.
While it’s a shame school employees are excluded, that has more to do with state law than anything else. If the state doesn’t permit school employees to carry, then the county is out of luck. Nothing they can do.
But in the meantime, a large chunk of the county’s employees are going to be a bit safer going forward. Even if they don’t carry themselves, criminals looking for an easy mark now have to deal with the possibility of the county utility worker being armed, thus making them a less tempting target.
The criminal calculus in Brevard County just shifted.
The truth is, however, that Commissioner Tobia is right. It’s patently wrong to bar employees from carrying a firearm without a damn good reason.
Those working inside the jail don’t carry, but not because they’re not trusted. They don’t carry because they’re surrounded by people who can’t be trusted. As such, it’s smart not to have guns inside jails.
But there’s no reason filling in potholes or dealing with the sewer should be subjected to the same restrictions. None at all. Especially since those duties might take him or her to the worst parts of town. Now, they can deal with threats effectively should they occur. More importantly, though, they now know the county values them as human beings.
It’s a nice thing to feel.
Olympic Medalist Files Suit Against Mexifornia Over Bullet Control.
8:30 am Apr/29/18 by Tom Knighton
Mexifornia thought they were onto something. Since they can’t seem to control guns, even though they really keep trying to, they decided to control bullets instead.
After all, what could go wrong with that.
Well, now the state is staring down the barrel of a lawsuit. It seems that six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode takes a bit of exception to the new rules.
The Olympian, who is on the 75-member board of the National Rifle Association, was joined in the lawsuit by its state affiliate, the Mexifornia Rifle & Pistol Association, as well as a number of out of state ammo retailers who can no longer ship their products directly to state resident’s homes under the new rules.
The 31-page lawsuit argues Prop 63, which Second Amendment advocates characterized as “Gunmageddon,” outlaws direct mail order ammunition sales, puts all transfers of ammo under a “burdensome registration scheme,” imposes costly fees and price increases on bullet sales and mires would-be vendors in piles of Sacramento red tape.
As such, it not only violates the Dormant Commerce Clause by discriminating against interstate commerce but also tramples on the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Rhode, who made history in 2016 to become the first woman to medal in six straight Olympics, argues she is required to use special competition ammunition sanctioned by her sport’s governing bodies, which she receives from a training facility in Arizona and brings back into the state. She also regularly has ammo sent to her home, range, and coach by sponsors, needed as she fires an average of 800 rounds daily to keep on top of her game.
Now, with Prop 63, both means of obtaining her needed ammunition are illegal.
The law is interfering with Rhode’s ability to do business. She’s the first woman to medal at six different Olympic games, making her something of a sports hero in this country, and Mexifornia’s law directly impacts her ability to continue to compete.
Her alternative is to leave Mexifornia for another state, which is what she might have to do if the state continues to screw with law-abiding gun owners like this.
Rhode is being prevented from training for her sport because of this law. That is indisputable. Anyone with half a brain knows she is being impacted negatively by this law.
Further, while violent crime was predicted to drop in Mexifornia during 2018, none of that is apparently attributed to ammunition restrictions. None.
In other words, the people most likely to be impacted by a law like this are lawful shooters. Criminals aren’t that affected. It’s just over three hours from Los Angeles to Arizona by car. If you’re already willing to shoot people, do you really care about crossing state lines with ammunition?
Again, the only people being hurt are people like Rhode who want to be law-abiding citizens but are thwarted by rules that keep them from doing something they should lawfully be able to do.
But then again, it’s Mexifornia. What do you expect?
BREAKING NEWS: GOP Congressman Resigns.
Representative Pat Meehan announced today that he is resigning – effective immediately – from Congress following allegations he sexually harassed a former staffer.
The Philidelphia-area Republican, Pat Meehan said he intends to repay the $39,000 he owes in taxpayer dollars used to settle his harassment case.
Roll Call has Meehan's official statement:
“While I do believe I would be exonerated of any wrongdoing, I also did not want to put my staff through the rigors of an Ethics Committee investigation and believed it was best for them to have a head start on new employment rather than being caught up in an inquiry,” Meehan said in a statement. “And since I have chosen to resign, the inquiry will not become a burden to taxpayers and committee staff.”
Meehan’s resignation will take effect Friday. Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf has 10 days to declare a special election, which must occur at least 60 days after the governor’s announcement. The nominees for a special election are chosen by party leaders, rather than through a direct primary election.
A competitive race is already underway for the open seat in the Philadelphia suburbs, which is now favorable to Democrats after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court imposed a new congressional map.
Roll Call's political prognosticators rate the race Likely Democratic.
Correspondents Dinner Host Hurls Vile Attack At Trump's Press Secretary.
4/29/18 Daily Wireby: Emily Zanotti
Many reporters — even those typically associated with left-leaning media outlets — were left shocked and aghast at comedian Michelle Wolf's bizarre and mean-spirited White House Correspondents' Dinner monologue, after the feminist joked about abortion, CNN's Jake Tapper, and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders' weight and appearance as Sanders looked on from her seat at the head table.
Wolf, looking straight at Sanders, said she was "excited" that Sanders "was finally able to go to prom," and then excoriated the press secretary for her makeup, choice of outfit, and weight. “She burns facts & then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye. ‘Maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies.’ It’s probably lies," Wolf said as Sanders looked on.
How very feminist, right?
Although the joke appeared to earn Wolf the respect of figures like CNN's Brian Stelter, and progressive icon Joan Walsh — who compared the incident to Stephen Colbert's 2005 "roast" of then-President George W. Bush without understanding that to be a "roast" the subject has to be in on the joke — most WHCD attendees were turned off by Wolf's nastiness, even those reporters for whom Trump is a top target.
On Saturday, President Donald Trump suggested that Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) needed to resign from his position after a new report from the Secret Service revealed that allegations he made against Navy Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson had no factual basis.
In a tweet, Trump wrote: "Secret Service has just informed me that Senator Jon Tester’s statements on Admiral Jackson are not true. There were no such findings. A horrible thing that we in D.C. must live with, just like phony Russian Collusion. Tester should lose race in Montana. Very dishonest and sick!"
Tester made the allegations in an interview with CNN earlier this week which ultimately led to Jackson withdrawing his name from consideration for the position.
Napolitano Calls the clinton Foundation “Criminal Enterprise".
Mar/6/18
While the media has been going on one wild goose chase after another in the hopeless attempt to prove that Donald Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 campaign, the real instances of collusion and corruption have been almost entirely ignored.
One person who has certainly not ignored these instances of corruption, though, is former CIA officer and whistleblower Kevin Shipp.
In a recent Tweet, Shipp explained that all of the corruption and wrongdoing in the DOJ and FBI can be traced back to one underlying cause – the clinton Foundation.
Supposed to be a charity organization, killary clinton has used and abused the clinton Foundation as a way to underhandedly push her political agenda, in highly illegal ways.
Kevin Shipp believes that the actions of killary clinton and the clinton Foundation will almost certainly lead to indictment, and the high-profile senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano agrees.
In a recent interview on Fox News, Judge Napolitano called the clinton Foundation a “criminal enterprise”, going on to say that the evidence that bill and killary clinton engaged in multiple illegal activities through the clinton Foundation is beyond compelling.
To hear Judge Napolitano explain why he believes that the clinton Foundation is a criminal enterprise as well as to hear his thoughts on the recent gun control legislation that is being pushed.
Americans aren’t Happy with Companies that Cut Ties with the NRA.
Apr/25/18 By llvadmin
Following the Parkland Shooting and the immense amount of pressure on the NRA that ensued, many of the NRA’s corporate sponsors have chosen to cut ties with the organization.
By and large, these were financially-oriented decisions as companies began to fear that an association with the NRA would lead to boycotts that would hurt their bottom line. However, what we’re now seeing is that these companies’ decision to cut ties with the NRA may backfire on them in a big way.
According to a study conducted by One America News, the overall favorability ratings of companies that have cut ties with the NRA have dropped, in some cases significantly.
Companies that cater to a majority conservative base such as Yeti have felt the backlash most strongly and now expect their sales to see a significant drop due to boycotts from NRA supporters.
This result is a firm reminder of the fact that no matter how much hate and vitriol the NRA gets in the media or how loud the voices of the minority that opposes them are, the majority of Americans still strongly value their Second Amendment rights.
Companies that cave to the pressure of the left on this issue do so at their own peril.
For more information on the favorability study conducted by One America News and the fallout that companies are facing after cutting ties with the NRA, be sure to check out the video below.
The report, which the intelligence community highly redacted and spans 253 pages, shows the Russians tried to influence the election through propaganda campaigns and details similar efforts in Europe. It lists dozens of findings on a number of relevant issues and shows in January 2017 obuma intelligence officials used the infamous Russian dossier as a way to attack President Trump in the press.
Former DNI James Clapper, now a CNN national security analyst, acknowledged discussing the dossier with CNN journalist Jake Tapper and admitted that he might have spoken with other journalists about the same topic," the report states.
Sen. Cruz Questions Secretary Mattis and General Dunford in the Armed Service Committee on Threats Facing the United States.
Apr/27/18
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, participated in a hearing Thursday with the Secretary of Defense, James Mattis, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, on the national security challenges facing the United States. Sen. Cruz highlighted the need to ensure U.S. combat superiority in space, to defend against hypersonic weapons from Russia and China – which Secretary Mattis identified as the Department’s number one priority – and to bolster protection of South Korea and Japan from North Korea’s conventional capabilities.
An excerpt of his exchanges are below.
Sen. Cruz: “What would be the national security implications for the United States if Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons?
Secretary Mattis: “I think the implication for the United States and for every nation in the region would be an increased level of danger at a level we have never experienced from this regime.”
Sen. Cruz then shifted his line of questioning to focus on space as a contested domain.
Sen. Cruz: “General Dunford, you have acknowledged that, “Unlike previous eras, when space was considered a benign and unchallenged environment, space is now a contested domain.”
Based on that shared assessment, I introduced language to last year’s NDAA, which my colleagues on this committee supported, that officially labeled space a combat domain and called for a policy to develop and field an integrated system of assets to protect our space-based capabilities, to deter or deny attacks in space, and defend the US homeland, our allies, and deployed forces.
In your judgment, what is the United States’ greatest military comparative advantage in space, relative to Russia and China?
General Dunford: “Senator I think there’s really a few if you don’t mind me listing them. One is obviously, we leverage space for our command and control systems, we leverage it for navigation and that also includes our ability to deliver precision munitions and the other area we leverage it for is the area of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
You know for example when North Korea was doing testing, to put a finer point on it, the first indication we had that there was a missile test came from our space-based assets. We do leverage space for some core capabilities of the department.
Sen. Cruz: “What are our greatest vulnerabilities? And what are we doing and should we be doing you taking to mitigate those vulnerabilities?”
General Dunford: “What we see with China and Russia and to some degree some other countries, they developed the ability to jam our systems, they developed the ability to laze or blind our systems are some of the biggest challenges.
One that was referred to earlier is that we have a lot of space junk out there that puts at risk our targets and as that increases it becomes a greater threat as well, so those would be the three that I’d highlight.”
Mattis Gives Epic Description Of Russian Mercenary Annihilation.
04/26/2018 Daily Wire Ran Saavedra
Mattis revealed that the military used a deconfliction line with Russia to make sure that forces with which they were engaged in conflict were not part of the Russian military.
"The Russian high command in Syria assured us it was not their people, and my direction to the chairman was for the force, then, to be annihilated," Mattis said. "And it was."
Mattis added that at this point he couldn't attribute responsibility for who was behind the Russian mercenaries to the Russian government, noting that there are multiple forces involved in the operations in Syria.
The administration succeeded in enacting the most stringent sanctions regime yet imposed on North Korea -- and crucially got more buy in from China for more pressure on its nominal ally North Korea than ever before.
If those sanctions are indeed behind North Korea's decision to come to the table, Trump's effusive praise of China's President Xi Jinping during a state visit last year, for which he was widely criticized, could be validated.
Given the stakes, and the chance of averting what could be a murderous war on the Korean peninsula, it's possible that even in Washington's divisive political climate, everyone might be rooting for Trump to succeed.
“Everyone might be rooting for Trump to succeed,” I wish I could believe that, but I’m not holding my breathe. From the Democratic-media complex to a cadre of government officials—mostly obuma holdovers—leaking sensitive information to the press to hamstring the administration, and the recent character assassination of Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson, Trump’s Veterans Affairs secretary nominee, a lot of behind the scenes politicking could happen.
On top of what could be a long and arduous diplomatic journey with the Koreas, the Trump White House has to deal with a hostile press corps at home and a political party that will do just about anything to destroy his agenda.
We’ll see, but Trump winning a Nobel Prize would be a popcorn-worthy event. Here’s a man that many on the Left thought would bring war and misery to the world.
If Trump could pull this off, the U.S. would indeed be winning, so much winning we might get tired of it, right?
Democrats Could Totally Self-Destruct If Trump Wins A Nobel Peace Prize Brace Yourselves, Grab Some Popcorn.
The Korean War is coming to an end. It’s the conclusion of the last major chapter of the Cold War. Both sides said there’s an agreement on a peace treaty and the denuclearization of the peninsula.
It’s something that has eluded the Bush and Obama administrations. Funny—Trump mocks North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, called him “rocket man,” and sets off a panic among Democratic circles that his tweets could set off nuclear world war III. Why?
Because North Korea threatened to do so, which they’ve done for years. It shouldn’t be taken seriously—and it wasn’t; the markets really didn’t have seismic shifts over this.
Everyone thought Trump was mishandling this crisis, and in the end, both sides have agreed to officially end the war.
So, once again the media and the Democrats were wrong.
And now, President Trump is being considered for a Nobel Peace Prize!
Could you imagine how the Left would react if he were to win it?
President obuma won it and he escalated a war in Afghanistan, failed to confront ISIS, and dithered on Syria!
obuma did nothing when the Russians annexed Crimea!
Did nothing when chemical weapons were used in Syria as well.
Who does South Korea give immense credit for bringing North Korea to the bargaining table? Donald J. Trump. Besides the Twitter exchanges, the Trump White House slapped North Korea with a series of sanctions over missile tests. And this isn’t just South Korea, or conservative media, saying Trump deserves credit, CNN admits it as well:
Any way you cut it, President Donald Trump is entitled to significant credit for Friday's historic opening between the two Koreas.
The summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in keeps alive the possibility of a legacy win for Trump that would rank as one of the top presidential achievements since World War II.
If he were to preside over the verifiable destruction of the North's nuclear and missile programs, formally end the 1950-53 Korean War and usher in the destruction of the world's last Cold War-era frontier, Trump would claim a feat that has eluded all of his most recent predecessors.
It seems that President Trump's base would agree with that assessment as well. Last night at his rally in Michigan, the crowd began chanting "Nobel! Nobel! Nobel!" as if they were chanting "MVP!" at a professional sporting event.
More than 200 refugees from Central America who have moved in a caravan across Mexico have gathered at the U.S. border in Tijuana.
Some scaling the border fence and taunting U.S. officials while shouting "Gracias, Mexico!"
In a nod to former resident barry obuma, dozens also chanted “Si Se Puede!” (Yes We Can!) from atop the fence.
The caravan started out with some 1,500 refugees from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, and the hundreds that have reached the U.S. border plan to apply for asylum in the U.S.
Pro-immigration groups have dispatched lawyers to Tijuana to help instruct the refugees on how to get into the country.
Mexico has allowed the refugees to move unimpeded through the country, which prompted their gratitude.
The migrants are climbing the fence and cheering
"Gracias, México!" That's mexican for 'thanks'.
The disrespect for our borders, and for our country, is beyond belief. This is an attempt at invasion!
4.) The Mueller Investigation Is Running On Fumes;
So-called "Russia Collusion" has been investigated for over a year, with the only result being that Americans have had their time wasted in an attempt to stop President Trump from draining the swamp.
Nobody in the Trump campaign has been implicated in rigging the election, and the entire episode happened because obuma officials like james comey used killary's opposition research to justify warrants to spy on the Trump campaign.
Unless Mueller pulls a rabbit out of his hat, Democrats are running out of time to use this as a political issue.
