Citizens Dedicated To Preserving Our Constitutional Republic
Years ago, math was my favorite subject and I took the college course. Back then, it included Algebra, Geometry, and pre-calculus. In 10th grade, I even constructed a solution for trisecting an angle. My 10th grade teacher submitted it to one of her math magazines. Unfortunately, it worked, but only on angles less than 90 degrees. Oh well, I did get an "A" out of the class. Sometimes, I wish I'd kept up on the training and gone on to college.
About 2 years ago, I was helping several Kids Ranch kids after school with their reading and spelling. (Kids from 5 to 11.) One of the parents asked if I could help her son also with math, he was in 5th grade. So I contacted the publishers to get the books for his school year.(The school did not let the kids have any of the books, only work sheets.) The contact was very helpful - she sent the books, and the worksheet booklets for each semester.
Guess what, I couldn't make heads or tails out of them. The kid had to show me some of the drawings you have to use, you know, angles, boxes, arrows going nowhere. AND, they didn't have to get the right answer, just had to use the considered proper formula to use. WHAT THE HECK!!
It's no wonder our students are getting behind in the world scores.
