Of course, Jay Sekulow is absolutely correct, yet we would not be enmeshed in this absurd fandango had we not forgotten/ignored history.
The Treaty of Westphalia in 1648, which closed the 30 Years War, enshrined the concept of National Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity. It's signatories included the Holy Roman Empire, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Sweden, among others; which was actively and forcefully promoted by the Vatican.
This core principle of international law, affirms that each nation-state, has sovereign right within its territory and over its domestic affairs; expressed through the will of its citizens; to the exclusion of any and all external forces.
