Biden ally expects decision 'relatively soon'

Vice President Biden will decide whether to enter the 2016 presidential race soon, and if he runs, he will shake up the race, one of his top supporters said Monday.

“He does have the room to make a decision that is right for him and his family,” Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) said on CNN. “It is getting late in the fall, and I do think we'll get an answer relatively soon.”

A new CNN poll suggests Democrats’ appetite for a Biden candidacy is waning following last week’s first Democratic primary debate, in which front runner Hillary Clinton gave a strong performance. Biden sat out the debate as he continues to contemplate a bid.

Forty-seven percent of Democrats said they want the vice president to run, down from 53 percent in August.

Coons, who occupies Biden’s old Senate seat, said the vice president's authenticity and decades of experience in public service would make him a formidable candidate if he decides to run.

“I know that if Joe Biden had been on that debate stage, if he gets into this race, it'll change all of the numbers that we just saw on the poll,” Coons said.

Biden’s supporters in recent days have been increasingly vocal in pushing back against the notion the vice president's window to enter the race has closed.

A top adviser to Biden, former Sen. Ted Kaufman, sent a letter to supporters last week that outlined the themes of Biden's potential campaign and indicated his decision is coming soon. A source close to Biden told CBS News he won't be “bullied” by outside pressure from Clinton's campaign and other Democrats about making a decision.

Clinton's campaign chairman, John Podesta, has publicly urged Biden to declare his intentions.

“It’s time he make that decision,” he said last week on MSNBC.

Bernie Sanders and the millennial mindset

Dan Merica/Twitter

According to a new NBC/SurveyMonkey poll, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is dominating Hillary Clinton (D) for the Democratic nomination among 18- to 29-year-olds, aka the millennial bloc.

Millennials love Sanders and his super-fair democratic socialism. My Twitter feed is #feelthebern all day long, and for those who've attended his rallies, forget about it; that'll buy you more State University street cred than a handlebar mustache and a Metallica t-shirt (both worn ironically, of course).

Anybody watching can pinpoint Sanders's millennial appeal, no Ph.D. in voter psychology required. It's not his youth, hipness or dynamic personality that's attracting youngsters like a millennial-magnet. It's his socialism. Socialism may be a bad word among square, non-university-professor Americans, but Sanders and his millennial followers will bend your ear all day long about the fact that you just don't understand what socialism is.

What is socialism?

Simple. Socialism is an economic system in which there are no money worries so everyone does what they are best suited for (except entrepreneurs, of course).

Capitalism is insensitive, and the free market is a bully designed to rob people of their uniqueness. If you want to be an actor, your bank account might quickly inform you that you are no Brad Pitt. If you feel destined to be a great American novelist, the power company has no qualms about turning the lights out on your dreams. Socialism loves you and thinks you're talented.

Millennial culture is all about big rewards for minimal effort: participation trophies of the mind. Every week it seems some new superhero movie breaks the box office record set by last week's superhero movie.

What's the appeal? Superheroes do great things and are widely admired, though rarely have they done anything to earn that admiration. They get bit by a spider or have some genetic mutation: big rewards easily achieved.

Pick a TV station at random and you will find shows about people who are famous for no reason at all. No special talent. No great achievement. Fame is bestowed upon them for no reason at all.

The new CBS show "Limitless," about a guy who takes a pill and becomes ultra-smart, is doing great among viewers 18 to 49.

And the popularity of video games? Easy. How else can you waste hours and hours and be left feeling you've accomplished something?

Try reading an Ernest Cline book, where a lifetime spent playing video games always pays off big — you win James Halliday's billions or defeat the alien invaders. The main character makes a giant mark on the Earth, and he never could have done it without all those years of playing video games. These books are perfect fantasy fuel for millennials.

Instant success sans much hard work — that's the millennial zeitgeist in one byte.

In the real world, the road to real success is a boring one with no joysticks, less stimulating graphics, and loads of hard work.

That leaves a person with two choices: become a hard worker or transform America to reward apathy.

Sanders represents the latter. He points at socialist countries in Europe — not Greece, but the ones that haven't crashed and burned yet — and says, "See! Look how great it works there."

It's lame to be patriotic and xenophobic to call America exceptional, but here's a simple truth: American capitalism is what has allowed those countries to live under highly socialist economic systems with no downgrade in their quality of life. They can afford to tax their entrepreneurs out of existence because American entrepreneurs pick up the slack.

The millennials who support Sanders were born in a great country full of endless opportunities. They engage in the consumption side of capitalism on a mass scale. Their hands are never empty of the latest mobile device. They enjoy the comforts provided by American capitalism without an ounce of thought or respect for the system that created all those comforts.

Without American capitalism, you couldn't tweet about how great Sanders is, but you could die of polio. Without American capitalism, you couldn't play video games all day, but you could still look up at the moon and wonder if it is made of cheese.

Sanders thinks we should be more like Denmark, but there's a reason Denmark's flag isn't on the moon.

What is socialism?

Simple. Socialism is a self-indulgent shortcut that freely bestows upon the populace the rewards that the free market makes them work for. It is the ultimate participation trophy of the mind.

The American free market is the greatest wonder of the world. It created a world where economies can create wealth instead of plundering it. The millennial generation has more opportunity at its fingertips than any generation in history, and they will be throwing it away if they embrace Sanders's destructive economic policies.

What it is.....they are lazy and feel entitled to have things given to them instead of working for it IMO. They all need to study the socialist dictators and get a reality check!

They are fools who have not studied History. They probably did not learn it in school the leftist have taken over the education system.

This is what happens when the country is full of idiots who want FREE STUFF!
