The Kentucky clerk who has been jailed for refusing to issue licenses to same-sex couples is getting full-throated support from several Republican presidential candidates.
Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ted Cruz (Texas) blasted a judge's decision Thursday to hold Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis in contempt of court.
"I think it's absurd to put someone in jail for exercising their religious liberty," Paul said on CNN's "Wolf," citing his home state clerk's "heartfelt conviction.
Cruz, a vocal opponent of the Supreme Court's decision legalizing same-sex marriage this summer, also rebuked the judge.
"Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny."
"Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America," Cruz said in a lengthy statement posted to his campaign website next to a bright red button for supporters to donate to his White House bid.
“I stand with Kim Davis. Unequivocally," Cruz said. "I stand with every American that the Obama Administration is trying to force to chose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court opinion."
The clerk’s case has divided the GOP presidential field, with candidates such as Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and businesswoman Carly Fiorina suggesting earlier this week that Davis, as a government employee, should issue the licenses.
But Davis’s situation took a new turn on Thursday, when she was found in contempt of court and jailed for refusing a court order that she issue the licenses. Earlier in the week, the Supreme Court had refused to place the court order on hold.
"You know, if you want to convince people that same-sex marriage is something that's acceptable, I would say try to persuade people," Paul said on CNN, suggesting action through the federal government brought about the opposite result.
"Her heartfelt religious conviction is that this isn't a kind of marriage she approves of," Paul continued. "My understanding is that she will file a contract, if two adults have a contract, she will file it, she just doesn't want to have her signature on it showing her approval."
The White House weighed in on the case earlier Thursday afternoon, with press secretary Josh Earnest saying that "on principle, that the success of our democracy depends upon the rule of law, and there's no public official that is above the rule of law."
Five deputy clerks in the Kentucky county have told the judge in Davis's case that they will issue the licenses, though another has expressed reluctance, according to The Associated Press.
Meanwhile, the case has become a social issue flashpoint for Cruz, Paul and other candidates vying for the support of evangelical voters, including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who has also backed her.
Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) has similarly come out in defense of Davis, seeking "a balance."
Huckabee, the first to offer a strong defense of Davis this week, blasted putting her in custody in a series of tweets on Thursday afternoon, calling it an assault on religious liberty.
Other candidates such as businessman Donald Trump, the current GOP front-runner, have either remained silent on the issue or declined to weigh in.
"I don't know enough about it to comment on it," Trump said during a wide-ranging press conference Thursday. "Was she jailed? I really don't know much about it."
Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton's campaign also issued a tweet Thursday on Davis being placed in custody, saying, "Marriage equality is the law of the land. Officials should be held to their duty to uphold the law—end of story."

The Ku Klux Klan was founded as the activist wing of the Democratic Party.
On September 28, 1868, a mob of Democrats massacred nearly 300 African-American Republicans in Opelousas, Louisiana. The savagery began when racist Democrats attacked a newspaper editor, a white Republican and schoolteacher for ex-slaves. Several African-Americans rushed to the assistance of their friend, and in response, Democrats went on a “Negro hunt,” killing every African-American (all of whom were Republicans) in the area they could find. (Via Grand Old Partisan)
Democrats in hoods slaughtered hundreds of Republicans and blacks across the country.
On April 20, 1871 the Republicans passed the anti-Ku Klux Klan Act outlawing Democratic terrorist groups.
Today Democrats dressed in KKK outfits protested Donald Trump outside Trump Tower in New York City.
Just like old times…
They dressed as KKK members because Trump wants to secure the US border.
The democrats always seem to back racists they certainly are fine with the racist organization BLmatters. They are always stirring the pot for trouble.
The democrat party has been taken over by radicals and communists....what mix.

On Thursday, anti-Trump talker Hugh Hewitt grilled Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on international terror leaders, including the heads of Hezbollah, ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
Even CNN senior political adviser David Gergen said it was a “gotcha” interview.
** The GOP invited Hugh Hewitt to moderate the next debate on CNN.
Hewitt previously said he does not believe Trump has the temperament to be president of the United States.
This morning Trump called Hewitt a “third-rate radio announcer“ after the pop quiz.
Rush Limbaugh today told his mega-audience that Hewitt’s pop quiz won’t hurt Donald Trump.
Via The Rush Limbaugh Show:
Okay, let’s get… First, I think probably what everybody here wants some clarification on — or at least some analysis of or explanation of or discussion of — is Trump and his inability to identify certain names thrown at him on the radio, names of Al-Qaeda leaders, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iranian Quds Force leaders and so forth. It’s real simple here, folks, and I guess I should address this to the Republican establishment and like-minded. If you think this is going to harm Trump with his supporters, it won’t.
It didn’t hurt George W. Bush when he was unable to do the same. It didn’t hurt Ronaldus Magnus when he was unable to do the same thing. But it specifically isn’t gonna hurt Trump’s people because Trump, A, had a fairly decent answer. (summarized) “It doesn’t matter. These guys are all gonna be gone by the time I’m elected.” But, anyway, that’s not the point. I want to get some historical perspective. Let’s start here first off with what Trump said. This was on the Hugh Hewitt show last night. He’s interviewing Trump.
This guy Hewitt, by the way, is one of the CNN moderators. He is the conservative Republican moderator CNN has chosen. He used to be in the Reagan White House. He’s a graduate of Harvard. Solid guy, nice guy. No problem with Hugh Hewitt. He has his own technique, has his own way of doing his program and vetting presidential candidates. He asked the same questions later of Carly Fiorina. She was able to ace them all. So now we got comparisons, by the way.
“You know what? You know what?” they’re saying in the Drive-By Media. “Why, this just like Sarah Palin! Sarah Palin, she didn’t do the homework. She didn’t study. She thought she could wing her way through and look what happened to her.” They’re saying that Trump is on the same path that Sarah Palin was on. Not, of course, noting the profound differences.
Anyway, here’s the question. We have one of two. “At the debate…” Hugh Hewitt was telling Trump, “At the debate, I may bring up Nasrallah being with Hezbollah and al-Julani being with al-Nusra and al-Masri being with Hamas. Do you think if I asked people to talk about those three things and the differences, that that’s a gotcha question?”…
….These questions are never asked of Democrats, by the way. Make note of this: The question that Trump got, Democrats will never get those questions in the normal ebb and flow of things. Hillary will never get them. Clinton will never get ’em. Never did. It’s just… They are questions that are designed to further the narrative that Republicans are just not bright; they’re just not hip.
And when it works on one of them, then every other Republican is gonna start getting the same treatment. For example, if they can expose, say, a Sarah Palin who doesn’t know an answer like this, “A-ha! Let’s start asking the others, too.” So Reagan got questions like this. He was asked to name various obscure heads of state. Reagan’s answer was the best. Reagan said… I’m paraphrasing. He said, “It doesn’t matter if I know their names. They need to know mine,” and that shut it down. Trump saying, “It doesn’t matter. They’re not gonna be there by the time I get inaugurated, and even if they are, in 24 hours I’m gonna know more about these people.
“Because I’m gonna go out and I’m gonna find the wonks, and I’m gonna find the geeks. I’m gonna find the foreign policy experts are gonna tell me all about this. I’m a delegator. I’m gonna tell ’em to deal with it. We’re gonna deal with it once and for all. Hamas, Hezbollah, what do you need to know? They’re terrorist organizations, and they need to be wiped out. That’s all anybody needs to know,” and answers like that are gonna resonate. Trump’s inability to name names or identify certain names? It’s not gonna hurt him with his supporters.

Donald Trump will hold a major rally at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on September 14th.
The center holds 21,000 for concerts.
The Dallas Morning News reported:
Real estate tycoon Donald Trump is staging what could be an enormous campaign rally at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
“He’s excited about coming to Dallas,” said Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks. “He’s looking forward to it.”
The September 14 event is free to the public, and will mark Trump’s first major event in North Texas since he announced his bid for president.
Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination to the White House, has been drawing large crowds at his events.
I’ll have more on the rally throughout the day.
Trump’s appearance in Dallas shows that he’s going to compete for the huge haul of delegates that will be awarded in March 1 Texas primaries.

If trump stays true to all he is saying he is unbeatable , because so many people are afraid that this country is going to be 3rd world in a very short time if something is not done and we do not get a leader who is not a puppet.
In an interview on “Good Morning America” with George Stephanopoulos, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was asked if he would support his rival Donald Trump as the 2016 Republican nominee.
“Of course,” Bush said. “We need to be unified, we need to win, and I think Mr. Trump ought to figure out a way maybe to lessen the divisive language, the hurtful language, and talk about the aspirations of the American people rather than trying to prey on their fears.”
Trump and Bush have been in a war of words, exchanging attack ads on social media, going after each other’s positions on everything from immigration to healthcare.
“[Trump is] trying to insult his way into the presidency,” Bush said. “[It’s] not going to work.”
“People want an uplifting, hopeful message,” Bush continued. “People come to this country to pursue their dreams. Sometimes they start without speaking English, but they learn English, and they add vitality to our country.”
