Second order of business: Last week Richard Johnson's article on shotgun innovations set a new record for readers. Nearly 100,000 people read that great article. That's a tough act to follow, but Richard is up for the challenge and this week penned 2011: Year of the Small 9mm. Now that manufacturers are done scaling down .380's they have taken to miniaturizing the 9mm. The 9mm +p ammo delivers twice as much energy as a .380. Check out his article and see what's new for 2011. Third order of business: We have two more articles from outside the United States. Sandra Maksimovic is a Serbian citizen that has stepped forward to write Political and Security Challenges in the Middle East Area. Sandra is a PhD candidate in Counterterrorism Studies in Belgrade. Serbia doesn't have a First Amendment and it has been a hot zone for many years. She is brave to write so candidly for us here at G & P. Another hot zone is Israel and Mordechai Ben-Menachem writes hard truths you will never see in our American media. Thanks to both of these writers for the courage they show to write for us from countries where freedom is hard fought and fleeting. Last orders of business: W. Thomas Smith, Jr., who has been with G & P since day one, was recently honored by the State of South Carolina. LtCol Smith is also the Director of the U.S. Counterterrorism Advisory Team. I tell ya folks this man is as tough as a $2 steak. Besides being a writer and analyst, eight months ago Mr. Smith, at age 50, earned Royal Laotian Airborne wings. Yes, he jumps out of perfectly good planes. Congrats from the G & P family on your well-deserved award, sir. Congrats to my alma mater, George Mason University, men's basketball team for the longest Division 1 winning streak in the nation. GMU is the home of the, you guessed it, Patriots!
