STRATEN
.
Dear District # 8 Residents,
I am not one to frivolously claim victory, but last night's debate with Bill Pascrell was a clear-cut Straten victory.
Not only did he fail to answer or address any of my main points, he reverted to the classical Democrat playbook of making fun of his opponent and calling me a liar. His closing arguments were nothing short of lame. He engaged in grandstanding in violation of the debate rules by introducing an Iraq veteran.
Herb Jackson's article in the Record's first paragraph stated: " Pascrell tried to mock and belittle Straten's arguments.
He had no answer to my position that the stimulus package was a failure and that we need to allow the free market to operate, to make the tax cuts permanent and reduce regulation on small business. His comment was that he had made a proposal to extend the tax cuts for up to five years and had voted for small business tax breaks. He left out that these "special" tax breaks were so full of rules and regulations to make them almost worthless.
He had no answer to any of the statistics on national debt or unemployment that I presented. His anger showed when I listed the names of the Pharmaceutical corporations who had contributed to his campaign: Bayer Corp, Becton Dickinson & Co, Biotechnology Industry Organization, Boehringer Ingelheim Corp, Bristol-Myers Squibb
Consumer Healthcare Products Assn, Genentech Inc, GlaxoSmithKline, Hearing Industries Assn, Hoffmann-La Roche, Johnson & Johnson, & Merck & Co. Much to his relief the timekeeper called time before I could add Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Novartis Corp, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer Inc, Pharmaceutical Rsrch & Mfrs of America, Sanofi-Aventis US, and Wyeth.
After the debate his son verbally attacked me and Bill even made physically aggressive moves toward me only to be thwarted by the police officer standing next to me.
The debate clearly showed that the people have an extremely clear choice this election between a career politician who has done nothing but advance his own career and a businessman engineer who knows how to make things work and wants to make life better for the people of the district.
