Foreign Born Gain Jobs, Native Born Lose Jobs in the Economic Recovery, Pew Hispanic Center Report Finds
.
The Pew Hispanic Center, a project of the Pew Research Center, today released a report that finds substantial differences in the experiences of foreign-born and native-born workers during the recovery from the Great Recession. The report shows that, in the year following the end of the recession in June 2009, foreign-born workers gained 656,000 jobs while native-born workers lost 1.2 million jobs. As a result, the unemployment rate fell for immigrants, from 9.3% to 8.7%, while it rose for the native born, from 9.2% to 9.7%. During the recovery from 2009 to 2010, the immigrant working-age population also increased by 709,000 following a decrease the previous year. But employment for immigrants has not recovered to pre-recession levels and their wages fell sharply in 2009-10.This report also analyzes labor market outcomes for Hispanics, whites, blacks and Asians. The focus is on the period from the second quarter of 2008 to the second quarter of 2009, when most of the job losses during the Great Recession occurred, and the period from the second quarter of 2009 to the second quarter of 2010, the first year of recovery from the recession. The analysis is based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau and Department of Labor.
.
The report, After the Great Recession: Foreign Born Gain Jobs; Native Born Lose Jobs, authored by Rakesh Kochhar, Associate Director for Research, Pew Hispanic Center, with C. Soledad Espinoza, Intern, Pew Hispanic Center, and Rebecca Hinze-Pifer, intern, Pew Hispanic Center, is available at the Pew Hispanic Center's website, www.pewhispanic.org.

Jobs Sonorans won’t do?
.
In the state of Sonora, across the border from Arizona, there are more jobs than workers, but since the jobs are of “little quality,” Sonorans won’t take them and the state has to attract workers from other state to do the work, according to Juan Edmundo Lopez Durand. The coordinator of the National Employment Service (SNE) in Sonora pointed out that an estimated 60,000 Sonorans are unemployed. He said there are more jobs than people willing to do them, because in the countryside, another 100,000 must be brought in from other states to fill the vacancies.

[4]. "ANCHOR BABIES": REP. LAMAR SMITH WANTS TO STOP BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP BUT DOES NOT WANT TO REPEAL THE XIV AMENDMENT. TELL HIM HE DOES NOT NEED TO "REPEAL" IT, JUST NEEDS TO DO A "CLARIFICATION OF INTENT" WHICH ESSENTIALLY WILL CLARIFY WHAT THE XIV AMENDMENT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO - ASSURE THE RECOGNITION OF ALL BLACK CHILDREN TO BE AMERICAN CITIZENS AFTER THE CIVIL WAR. (IT WAS NOT INTENDED TO BE MANIPULATED BY ILLEGAL ALIENS 100 YEARS LATER (AND MORE!):

WASHINGTON - The new Republican-controlled House will shelve immigration proposals in favor of streamlined law enforcement to seal U.S. borders, Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas - likely chairman of the House Judiciary Committee - said Wednesday. "The enforcement of our immigration laws is critical to both our national security and economic prosperity," Smith said. "We need to know who is entering our country, and why. "The GOP majority is expected to pick Smith as the new chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the next Congress. In an interview, he laid out his potential priorities for the panel. He said the committee under his leadership would "enact policies that will better secure our border and discourage illegal immigration, human smuggling and drug trafficking."...
.
Smith wants to do away with birthright citizenship, but he doesn't support repeal of a portion of the Constitution's 14th Amendment that states: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States … are citizens of the United States. "But Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, poised to chair the immigration subcommittee, advocates legislation to repeal birthright citizenship. His aim is to curtail the strategy of giving birth in the United States as a way of securing a toehold on legal residence.

President Felipe Calderon says Mexico is becoming a leader in auto production, as he inaugurated a new Chrysler engine plant in the northern city of Saltillo. The new $570 million plant will employ 700 people and produce the company's Pentastar V-6 engine for the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and later for the Town and Country 300 and 200, the Dodge Charger, Avenger, Durango and Journey. The plant will have a production capacity of about 400,000 units per year. The company named the new facility the Centenario engine plant, in honor of the anniversary of the start of Mexico's 1910-1917 Revolution. Chrysler Vice president Scott Garberding said the 290-HP Pentastar engine is 7 percent more fuel-efficient... http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9J5M77O1.htm
