Congressman,
In January, 2009 I sent you letters, faxes, and emails referencing HR45 by Congressman Bobby Rush of Illinois, to which you did not respond. My letter said the following;
Today I read Bill# H.R. 45, and feel compelled to write you. This bill can only be considered a direct threat to Americans civil liberties particularly our way of life in the Northwest, and Congressman I find this bill unsettling to say the least. This bill is loaded with unreasonable expectations and consequences, for example, if a firearm is stolen and is used to hurt somebody even by the thief, the registered owner of the firearm is liable, and goes to jail. Another example, if a firearm owner moves or changes his / her residence, they must report said relocation to the federal government with in 60 days. This bill mandates photos, fingerprints, and a federal license to purchase or own a firearm.
This scares the hell out of me Congressman Baird; it will immediately criminalize millions of good, honest, hard working Americans and is a giant step in the direction of becoming a socialist country. Currently there are plenty of laws and regulations on firearms; bill H.R.45 is clearly unreasonable and unnecessary in its entirety. This bill is completely un-American.
As your constituent, I urge you to immediately oppose Bill H.R.45, and to work diligently towards its defeat. I look forward to hearing from you on this issue.
Today I learned Congress and the current administration are attempting to sneak HR45 into law by attaching it to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986 as an amendment. It appears congress and the entire administration has become a direct threat to the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights which is unacceptable. These tactics by our own government are deceitful and a complete outrage.
Why is the government so intent on eliminating the Second Amendment and disarming Americans, what are their intentions that make them fearful of the people?
As your constituent, I again urge you to immediately oppose H.R.45 and work diligently towards its defeat. I would like to hear your thoughts on these questions.
Respectfully,
Merrill Berger
