Subject: Reid, USO Announce New USO Lounge Coming To McCarran Airport This Year:
For years the United Service Organization (USO) has denied Las Vegas a Hospitality Lounge at McCarran International Airport for our active and reservist that are on military orders; passing through our airport.
We local veterans have pointed out that McCarran International Airport is the only International Airport in the United States that does not have a USO or a Military Hospitality Lounge for our troops. We pointed out that the USO denied our US military a lounge because Las Vegas has “gaming”.
We brought this issue to the Clark County Board of Commissioners in December 2009 that there were over 250,000 military personnel that passed through McCarran Airport in 2009.
We directed the media to the McCarran Airport on January 2, 2010 when 100 US Marines were sitting on the floor. For years our local veterans and civilian friends have been working on a Military Hospitality Lounge.
We are in this in support of our US Military the Veterans In Politics have created a face book fan page entitled “McCarran Military Hospitality Center” located at:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/McCarran-Military-Hospitality-Center/... in an effort to educate the public and gain support for a USO type facility, so far we have 793 supporters since we created this fan page.
We have been meeting with Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak who donated money to get this project off the ground and assembled us to move forward.
I would like to thank all the people involved in getting our United States Senator Harry Reid to finally support this project: Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak, Chuck Lombardo retired Air Force, Bob Jagemann, Chris Christoff retired Marine, Jeff Durbin retired Air Force, Ed Bridges retired Air Force Colonel, Former Assemblyman Bob Beers, Robert Freeman, Terri Dunn, and myself.
These are the true hero’s of this project and they deserve recognition as well. I am hopeful that politics is not involved in supporting our troops. I am hoping, because US Senator Harry Reid is down in the polls he is not using this USO project as a foot hole to gain our veterans vote.
Respectfully Submitted
