HARNEY COUNTY, Ore. — KATU News has learned the leader of the armed occupation at Malheur Wildlife Refuge - Ammon Bundy - has been detained, along with at least eight other individuals Tuesday evening.

Officials said it all began with a traffic stop while Bundy and some of his followers were en route to a community meeting in John Day, about 70 miles away.

Shots were fired after FBI agents, Oregon State troopers and other law enforcement agencies made the stop. CNN reports its unclear who fired first.

Details of the arrest and confrontation remain unknown, but charges are pending related to the group's 25-day takeover of the wildlife refuge.

Bundy and about three dozen of other individuals occupied the wildlife refuge earlier this month after two local ranchers were sent to prison for setting fires on federal land.

KATU News spoke with Harney County Judge Steven Grasty last weekend, who expressed his worry regarding the situation.

"Somebody will do something stupid," Grasty said. "If it goes south, it'll go south because Mr. Bundy or his friends started something."

Around the same time, Bundy told KATU his group had no intention of using their weapons, "but we have them, and we're willing to stand with them in our own defense as we exercise our rights, and as we restore our rights back to our brothers and sisters."

Gov. Kate Brown had repeatedly asked for assistance from federal authorities regarding the occupation.

5 arrested, 3 injured, one dead. Didn't copy the whole thing - it's on WND. FBI not saying who shot first, but I have my beliefs.

Won't know any more - will be closing down. until tomorrow. Can't keep my eyes open.

I think they arrested pete and some of staff has stream running in front of hospital ..Not a mention on MSM. ..They were told not to report Im sure...I think Patriot nation will revolt and Obama will be able to call for Marshall law....What will the Masses do...Cower or revolt....

Yes, it is quite obvious - he was the one speaking out about what is going on in the EPA, BLM, and all the other unelected agencies.

After hearing and seeing all I have today the thought is beginning to take root that the people of this land as a whole are not worth the price anyone's blood. Of course other people will say differently but it wont change what we have seen.

There are always exceptions but even in communities one would expect some understanding of the matters at hand so many are on the bandwagon screaming well done to their masters in DC.

Number one practical lesson learned today, get off all social media, starting now

Ooo I know hold a Repub debate in Burns, that might get whatever remains of the TP attention. Be kind of hard for the RNC drones to ignore things then err?

Or conversely or in addition put a voting booth in the refuge center and tell everyone they have to go there to vote.

It would at least bring some image of relevance to both.

I joke but not much.
