Data Breachs, your devices are already primed and ready for it.

It seems that a day doesn't go by that there is not a report of some company or bank is not a target of a data breach and the frequency seems to be increasing.  Today Dunkin Donuts and Door Dash are now added to the growing list and growing risk facing ALL of us now. 

The offer to monitor your credit activity should you be a violated for shopping  for food, medicine and now even a cup of coffee is meaningless, you are already a victim of others lack of care for your info and financial safety and you can thank your computer and cell phone and add too that voice activated box and for being the conduit.

Over 20 years ago, I was assigned to do the demolition and decon of the computer chip lab at a DOD facility, prior, all computer chips for our government computers and computer chips used in the US were made here at home....as other countries took on the cheap chip position,  and had the ability to offer the cheapest bid for governments and company's all over the world to meet the ever growing demand for the newest and greatest chips and divices, it was deemed nu-necessary to continue making them here at home, in the USA... as I worked the site and saw the once bustling lab empty and quiet, I had a tug in my heart thinking how sad it was for the workers who once produced an awesome piece of technology are now displaced and I questioned then, how safe is computering at the DOD going to be in the hands of complete strangers?  It appears my question had been answered as each year passed from completing that assignment and up to this very moment, how easy it has become for our information to be taken away by those that now make each and every device we use today.

Each device has a default setting, I know of very few people over ridding those defaults and that is the open door to all you hold most dear, your info.  Consider that those who make these devices and the chips and gears that run them are preset to grab at you.  Hacking is so easy by those who know how ignorant we are in protecting ourselves, it's easy pickins for sure.  Where we shop and how we now purchase things is so convenient that we don't give it another thought for we have become the generation of easy, and being easy .... well. that has now a vile price.  The latest and greatest is not without the consequences.  

Reconsider the box you talk to, every comment is listened to, restructure your conversations on your phone and try going back to banking in person....turn thing off, reset the defaults to your secret code.  It may not stop all infiltration's, but do more to protect yourself.

There is an American company or 2 that is putting on the good fight in protecting our  devices, and I highly suggest you seek them out.  

So, from your lap top, phone and that credit card you just love to swipe.... know that each transaction.... you are being shadowed.

Take care of your hard work, your home and you family, you are your best advocate and protector.  So do it... Protect is not a dirty word, it is an action word that needs to be exercised every day to remain strong and true.  No longer be a flabby follower of big tech, be a strengthened advocate and support bring home the making of our devices, to over see the safety and security  needed to move good tech forward.  IMHO

Great advice ...Evil is so prevalent in our society any more. This type of stuff should be criminal but the fine print protects the evil ones.

I very seldom use a credit card, but read that Discover Cards were attacked -- by a former person associated with Amazon. She hacked accounts based on info she gathered from Amazon records. Fortunately, I don't use Amazon or any other such shop/buy accounts. But just in case when out and about,  I have a sheet of aluminum foil in next to my card to deflect any stray attempts to read it.
