How does that joke go…?

When the German Kaiser asked in 1912 what the quarter of a million Swiss militiamen would do if invaded by a half million German soldiers, a Swiss replied: shoot twice and go home.

It's tough to say for sure how many Americans actually own guns but if we use the Pew estimate (which I suspect is overly conservative) approximately 1/3 of Americans own guns.

The total population of US servicemen both active and reserve is roughly two million strong.

The number of gun owning civilians, based on the Pew study estimate? About 108 million.

If just 10 percent of gun owners rose up in rebellion they would outnumber the entire US military five-to-one. And that's assuming every single serviceman sides with the government against the rebelling gun owners.

So we're talking a regular army of about 2 million, vs a rebel insurgency of potentially over a hundred million fighters mixed in amongst the general populace and not easily distinguished from them.

Could the US military defeat that? Maybe.

Could they do it and still leave the country in one piece? Doubtful. What's the point of ruling over a sheet of radioactive glass?

This is the best contradiction to the gun grabbers arguments against the 2nd Amendment and probably why the hidebound Elitist Politicians who regularly ignore the wishes of their voters want to confiscate our guns in the first place. 

Remember even if the Govt. made people crazy enough to repeal the 2nd Amendment, all guns and ammunition owned before that happened would have to be grandfathered because of the 4th Amendment; NO EX POST FACTO LAW!!!

Well let me think.  I have a daughter, two granddaughters and a grandson and of course myself that are ones with the right equipment. Not saying though - who knows who's checking. Anyway, if that is a fair recap of other families that hunt, fish, live in rural areas, means lots of rights being used.  And there are many others out there who actually have old muskets and know how to make their own ammo. Muzzleloaders are actually kinda neat.

American knowhow has always been great - nothing will stop us if we put forth the effort.
