We The People USA

Citizens Dedicated To Preserving Our Constitutional Republic

Can you believe that statement? What a joke! The American people have had no less than 4 years to get ready for this. Thats right I said 4 years. But actually the FCC has been talking about this since 1996 and made it an order in 2001, but just to be fair it was not put into law until 2005 with the ``Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005''. So far it has cost the taxpayers 1.34 Billion dollars, just for the coupons alone. $100 Million on administrative expenses and $5 Million for consumer education concerning the digital
television transition. Now I find out today that the almighty Obama wants to spend another $650 Million on this, he has added it into his 850 Billion dollar Stimulus package

I don't know about you but it has been all over my TV for the past year to remind everyone that it is coming. The cost of a converter box is between $40 and $80. You can get a coupon worth $40. When is this Government going to wake up and start holding people responsible for their own actions? Where did personal responsibility go?

Our founding fathers did not intend the government to hold the hands of the citizens and controll all aspects of our lives. Maybe the new change that Obama keeps talking about is going to have the Government teach the American people the correct way to wipe our ass.

He's just getting started--dependency erases all individuality and self-esteem.
Its sad that Americans are so tied down with television. Fatness, and heart disease, what a culture to corrupt your children
I am floored! Who stands to benefit financially from this additional injection of our money into a "recreational" (of all things!) product?

Perhaps the existing administrators of this folly are concerned about losing their unearned income? After all, they must surely feel that this is a life or death issue... worthy of their ability to profit from it!

Perhaps Obama wants to start up "another" government office (and all that that would entail) so that more overpaid, and most likely unqualified, individuals can be supported by "our" hard-earned money.

Can anyone tell me why it is so important for the government to be involved in this switch? I don't recall them being involved when technology went from LP (long play) records to 8 track..... or from 8 track to cassettes, or from cassettes to CD's. The government wasn't involved when we switched from walkmans to i-Pods.
Where was the government when we went from main frame computers to desk top computers?

If the government wasn't needed for all these changes, why do we need them now? The only reason I can come up with would be the ability to spy on us in our own livingrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, etc with this digital technology. IS THIS "BIG BROTHER" TECHNOLOGY?

Just wondering.......
Our founding fathers didn't Have television. Television is for the most part crap anyway. Why have one, I have the internet
I second that. Television is the lazy mans way of mentally escaping from himself and others. It does not require you to even think, since the television is happy to do that for you.

It's unfortunate that many unscrupulous men and women (including advertisers) use this media to brain-wash the unsuspecting public into accepting immorality, violence and sexual lust as an acceptable way of life. Our advertisers further instill in us an uncontrollable need for frivolous material possessions.

Has anyone noticed how hard it is to turn off a television once you get into the "dead brain" zone? It happens so quickly!

The internet has so much more to offer. It's geared toward "using" ones mind.... not "losing" ones mind.

In my humble opinion, the world would be a better place without television.
