I think the amount of fear and attention we pay the extremist Muslims only plays right into their hands. The whole purpose of a terrorist act or threat is to change the life of those under attack. I have no real day to day concern about a Muslim attack. I don't own a gun and don't plan to ever own one, and I live within a few miles of a large Muslim population. Since 9/11 approximately 20,000 people worldwide have been killed by a muslim terrorist while the world has killed over 4 million Muslims in that same period on their war against terrorist. That equates to 2000 Muslims killed for every one person they kill. I think we have much greater world threats to be concerned about than to worry about terrorist getting the best of us. Each day in almost every country there is thousands gruesome killings taking place and that doses not exclude America. No, I will continue to trust our government and security officials to keep us safe. I don't think I have the talent or the resources to lend them a hand. I can only be more of a burden than any help.
I believe you are right about the fear and attention being a very big plus for ISIS. However, I do have a gun, and I have used it, twice - both times for protecting another; one a young gal across the street from my home, being beaten; and 2, my daughter who was being threatened by her ex- and one of his bully friends. By the way, that bully friend ended up in prison a year later. He beat and killed a minister in Madison.
My husband was calling the police, while I grabbed my shotgun. The sheriff's deputy showed up an hour later. He gave us his home phone number, because he was closer to us than the station. He was worried about these 2 - he had seen them hanging around at the end of our driveway, and he felt they were dangerous.
So trusting the government - to a point, but have your backup ready. That's my belief, my plan.
