The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote.

After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.

She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.

On Wednesday, Gov. Rick Perry announced that in January, he will ask his state’s legislators to take immediate action and abolish sanctuary cities. Speaking to the Houston Police Officer's Union, Perry said: “As long as I'm Governor, Texas will never become a sanctuary state. There's some Texas cities who've enacted sanctuary city rules, they've basically been handcuffing you from the job your sworn to uphold.
