Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk emerges as front-runner for Obama Cabinet post

WASHINGTON – Ron Kirk emerged late Wednesday as the front-runner for an Obama Cabinet post handling international trade, thrusting the pro-trade former Dallas mayor into a sensitive balancing act between unions and business interests.

The reason that I posted this news story about Ron Kirk is because I've known Ron for nearly twenty years. Our politics clashed often but I found him to be a reasonable person. I met him when he was the late former governor Ann Richards' secretary of state in Texas. He later ran for and became the mayor of Dallas and used much of my writings as the basis for his campaign. We became friends and I felt that Ron made a rather good mayor. Ron also teamed up with the then mayor pro-tem Steve Salazar and they presented me with a certificate of recognition for service to Dallas.

I am surprised that Ron would associate himself with the likes of Obama as the man I know is no way like Obama. At least, I hope not!
