"Join, or Die" is a famous political cartoon created by Benjamin Franklin and first published in his Pennsylvania Gazette on May 9, 1754

The cartoon appeared along with Franklin's editorial about the "disunited state" of the colonies, and helped make his point about the importance of colonial unity

Today, while not as drastic, we have a similar situation, there are many networking sites on the internet that have sprung up because of the TEA Parties (and even before), that are calling for a return to Conservatism. (Conservatism is a misnomer, I believe. Constitutionally Restrained Government is what people are really demanding.)
