Our newest Supreme Court justice, the classy and elegant Elena Kagan, revealed that when Ronald Regan won in 1980, she cried and got drunk. Well, I sympathize a bit because on March 23 this year, when Obamacare was signed into law, I didn’t get drunk but I did shed tears, because this healthcare takeover threatens everything about our American way of life.
We’ve heard three inspiring songs today from Dr. Ricky Lee Jackson – that’s my Dad, and I couldn’t be more proud of how he is speaking – and singing – for our Constitution, and against Obamacare. Go download his patriotic songs at FreedomFamilyAndFaith.com where you’ll also find the recent letter he wrote to his patients. Like many of you, at the risk of mixing business and politics my Dad chose to tell his patients why we should all continue fighting Obamacare.
I grew up watching my Dad bear a heavy burden of debt that he took on to earn his education, training, and open his clinics. He took on these burdens with joy – because he loves applying his brilliant intellect and compassionate heart to the art and science of healing. He’s good at what he does. He has saved and improved countless lives, including saving his own father’s life by diagnosing cancer so early that symptoms had not yet appeared. He is a true family physician. He spends time with his patients. He knows about their families, their jobs, their worries.
I’ve watched my Dad struggle over the years with every new invasion into the doctor-patient relationship, whether by insurance companies or government programs. With a heavy heart, he stopped taking new Medicare patients and is no longer a Medicaid provider. Why? According to President Obama, because he’s a rich, greedy doctor who probably tries to cut people’s limbs off just to get paid more! No, no, no, like thousands of physicians, my Dad found it impossible to survive the unfair legal and criminal liability, combined with the arbitrarily low payment rates, of government entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid.
Government entitlement programs over the last two decades have already warped the market for healthcare, creating wild cost inflation and shortages of many physician and surgeon specialties. Did Obamacare fix any of this? No! The reform forced on us by Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama adds tens of millions of people to the failing Medicaid program and regulates employers and insurance companies so irrationally that the inevitable result is to force all of us onto Medicare from cradle to grave.
It’s discouraging to think, Haven’t we fought and won this battle in the past? We fought a Revolution to escape tyranny. We ratified a written Constitution that laid the foundation for the most prosperous and free nation in world history. When Progressive intellectuals fell in love with Russian and German socialism and central planning, we fought two World Wars and showcased some of history’s finest economists, historians, philosophers, and statesmen, against socialism and communism, and in defense of liberty and capitalism. As recently as 1993 when Bill and Hillary Clinton tried to take over healthcare we should NO to socialized medicine and beat it back.
So it can feel discouraging to have to fight this battle for liberty, and against tyranny, once again. But we are being called to do no more, and no less, than what every generation of Americans has had to do for 234 years – Stand up for liberty, stand up for personal responsibility, for limited government, capitalism, and free markets.
At this moment in American history, the face of tyranny is Obamacare. If allowed to stand, it trades our unique American identity for the socialist failures of Britain, France, Canada, Greece, and so on. Obamacare is unconstitutional and fundamentally anti-American. We can and must repeal it completely and replace it with free market measures that honor the medical profession and the individual rights of Americans to pursue their own happiness.
We are taking this fight to repeal Obamcare to Congress, to the courts, the ballot box, and to the streets. Until we achieve victory, I predict we will see more peaceful civil disobedience by courageous Americans than we have seen at any time in our history since the civil rights movement. More and more of us will find ourselves called to stand in the footprints of Martin Luther King, Jr. and echo Patrick Henry’s call for liberty or death.
Thank you for spending your time and treasure to stand with AAPS, Physicians Against Obamacare, and candidates like Sharron Angle, Nick Popaditch, Dr. Donna Campbell, and David Castillo. As Sally Pipes puts it in her wonderful new book The Truth About Obamacare, together we can put Obamacare where it belongs – on the ash heap of history!
Thank you!
