Citizens Dedicated To Preserving Our Constitutional Republic
Another election is past--
We have once again been privileged to witness and be a part of that great and good experiment called American representative government, American democracy. The election that has just concluded should be a time of profound gratitude and celebration for the privilege of being entrusted with self-government, something so very rare throughout human history. As stated in the preamble to our Constitution, we are still in the process of forming that “more perfect union”, and anyone who cares to see will notice that we have not arrived at perfection yet. But the good news is that America is still America, and that as free men and women here, we still exercise our right and responsibility to choose fellow citizens to represent us in government. We Americans do not have a king, we do not have a dictator or junta or a Politburo to rule over us--we have only fellow citizen representatives, taken from among our very ranks. These fellow citizen representatives are accountable to “we the people” only, and subject to our collective electoral opinion on whether they are fit to serve, or may continue serving us. And via our fellow citizen representatives, we even have the insurance policy of impeachment (or recall mechanisms on the state level) to fall back on if necessary to correct a poor choice we the people may make. The constitutional republic form of government that was set up at our founding, inspired by principled godly men and women, has served us well–despite more than 100 years of "Progressive" efforts to chip away at the principles of constitutionally defined individual liberty and responsibility. In spite of massive attempts to dilute the constitutionally defined power of the individual citizen to collectively have their voice and their rights solely and rightfully dominating their government, we have once again demonstrated the power of ordinary citizens boldly speaking truth, lawfully assembling (in person and virtually), and choosing representatives who truly reflect our beliefs and our interests. In this past election, we have taken a profoundly critical step towards restoring this nation to the foundations that made us, as a nation, both good and great. We have elected men and women who believe in this nation, a nation founded on a belief in and reliance upon Divine Providence, a Providence that is personal, Who endowed His creation of individuals with inalienable rights-- which included, but were not limited to, life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And unlike far too many among us today, especially those who consider themselves elites in our society, these citizen representatives also have a profound respect for and belief in the only truly moral system of enterprise and social contract–capitalism. In politics as in life, there are never any final victories, only an end of one thing that leads to the next beginning. in this life we never arrive fully at a destination, but we do continue the quest, the journey. The advance of truth and goodness that this recently passed election represents must not be redefined into something less than it truly is–a gift of grace from God bestowed on a people who have specifically prayed for His blessing. After fighting this battle, this "good fight of active faith" (to synthesize Paul and James), it is well to rest and reflect-- and then, to take up the cause again, refreshed and enlivened for the next challenges that lie ahead.
May God bless us as we continue to pray for our nation,
and may God continue to pour out His grace and favor on America!
