Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America's southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond.

President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents – less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Although there is little to no record of this operation in Ike's official papers, one piece of historic evidence indicates how he felt. In 1951, Ike wrote a letter to Sen. William Fulbright (D) of Arkansas. The senator had just proposed that a special commission be created by Congress to examine unethical conduct by government officials who accepted gifts and favors in exchange for special treatment of private individuals.

In the United States, Operation Wetback was enacted in the 1950s by immigration and Naturalization service. The effects of World War 2 caused a massive exodus of Mexican migrants into the U.S through the Rio Grande, into the Southwest part of the United States, to work as farm hands .  It was characterized by massive exploitation, and abuse of Mexican farm workers, by southwest farmers, law enforcement and Immigration agents.  Due to the massive abuse, the Mexican government, in response, in conjunction with the United States enacted a treaty to protect migrant Mexican bracero worker rights (Koestler. Web. 2012).

This agreement did not stop the abuse, despite the Mexican government demand that the united States cease to use all Mexican workers. The United States immigration service with pressure from southwest farmers retaliated by enacting operation wetback, unlawful ceasing, detaining, and deporting any person who looked Mexican. Any deported individuals were not allowed back into the country; this did not stem or prevent the flow and re-entry of Mexican migrant workers in the United States. A 1950 study conducted by the 1950 by the President’s Commission on Migratory Labor in Texas, showed a 6,000 percent increase in migrant labor and a substantial reduction in wage levels around the southwest (Koestler. Web. 2012).

In 1954, before the Operation Wetback began, there were over a million of workers crossed the United States Border illegally. Regardless of the risk of offending United States Laws, labors desired for jobs and opportunities to live better. Agricultural works were mostly replaced by cheap labor from Mexico; however, the massive movement also triggered violation of labor laws. Criminality, disease, and illiteracy were also bought into the country (Koestler. Web. 2012).

The result of Operation Wetback was stunning. Gen. Joseph May Swing, in mid-July 1954, generated a military-related movement to search and capture illegal immigrants from Mexico. Beginning from the Rio Grande Valley, Wetback spread quickly;

On July 15, the first day , 4,800 illegal immigrants were “gone”. From the day after, about 1,100 illegal immigrants were sent back per day. The United States government had shown that they do not tolerate illegal activities.(Koestler. Web. 2012).

You seem to do well over  there, perhaps you could start an Election 2016 thread and hope that the trolls and control freaks do not trash it. That is why I am glad M is moderator here, he will not put up with any troll tricks or bully tactics. I really appreciate that.

“If people are here illegally, they have a visa and they have a child who’s born here, I think they should be made American citizens.”

Mark Levin Defends Trump: Anchor Babies Have No Birthright Citizenship

Mark Levin went on Hannity last night and defended Donald Trump’s immigration plan.
Levin, a constitutional scholar, explained that Donald Trump was right – anchor babies have no birthright citizenship.

“The Supreme Court has never ruled that babies born to illegal immigrants have citizenship.”

Levin says 14th Amendment does not apply to illegal aliens.

Mark Levin said on “Hannity” tonight that the 14th Amendment does not give citizenship to children of illegal immigrants who are born in the United States.

He said that those claiming that the 14th Amendment allows birthright citizenship are dead wrong, pointing to Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution, which grants absolute power to Congress to establish a uniform rule of naturalization.

Levin explained that means that Congress – not the president, the courts or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – has the power to regulate immigration in this regard.

“Of course Trump is right and Cruz is right and Sessions is right. They’re all right,” Levin said.

“If you want a policy of open borders, that anybody born here should become a United States citizen, you amend the Constitution. We don’t have to amend the Constitution. It says what we say it says,” Levin stated. “By statute, going forward, prospectively, Congress can in fact say … ‘No, you cannot make children of illegal aliens American citizens automatically.'”

Cruz pledges to 'lead the fight' to defund Planned Parenthood

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is moving ahead with his pledge to defund Planned Parenthood at any cost this fall, a move that puts him directly at odds with Senate leadership.

In an op-ed published Thursday by USA Today, Cruz declared that he will “lead the fight” to defund Planned Parenthood after a series of undercover videos raised questions about its fetal tissue donation program.

Cruz warned Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell not to “schedule or facilitate” any legislation that doles out federal dollars to Planned Parenthood – referring to a bill that must pass Congress this fall to fund the government.

“Instead, the Department of Justice needs to investigate and prosecute Planned Parenthood for any potential criminal actions of commercial trafficking of fetal organs,” said Cruz, who is also a GOP presidential candidate.

Cruz also condemned what he called a “show vote” in the Senate earlier this month, when McConnell scheduled a vote to defund Planned Parenthood that stood little chance of passage.

Since then, Cruz has ramped up his rhetoric on Planned Parenthood, making it part of his campaign pitch.

McConnell, who has condemned Planned Parenthood, has said he will not let members of his party attempt to shut down the government, even if it means continuing funding for the women’s health provider. The consequences of such a tactic, he said, could be as damaging as the party's previous government shutdown in 2013 – also led by Cruz.

“We’ve been down this path before,” McConnell said in early August, before senators departed for recess. “This is a tactic that’s been tried going back to the ’90s, frequently by Republican majorities that always have the same ending: that the focus is on the fact that the government is shut down, not on what the underlying issue that is being protested is.”

Planned Parenthood was dragged into the national spotlight this summer after an anti-abortion group released seven secretly recorded videos targeting the organization. The videos have since acquired millions of views, and nearly 60 percent of voters said they were paying attention to the controversy, according to this week’s Kaiser Family Foundation poll.

CNN criteria threaten Fiorina’s chance at main debate stage

CNN’s criteria for its September GOP presidential debate may keep Carly Fiorina off the stage reserved for the top 10 candidates despite her recent surge in the polls.  

The CNN debate methodology, released earlier this year, weighs polls from July 16 to Sept. 10.  

 

The use of the earlier surveys will hurt the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, who barely registered in the polls before the Aug. 6 Fox News debate. But since then, she has seen a significant bounce.  

“It acts as sort of an anchor on those people who had done poorly early and a bit of a parachute for those people who have done well early,” said Cliff Zukin, a Rutgers University political scientist and former president of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. 

The criteria could also protect Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) from sliding out of the top 10 despite his recent dip in polls.

Fiorina received 1 percent support or less in most of the polls before the Fox News debate. After a strong performance at Fox's second-tier debate, her numbers began to climb, jumping to 5 percent. campaign and supporters hope she can maintain polling numbers high enough to make CNN’s top 10. 

CNN, which declined to comment on its criteria and their potential impact on the field for this story, has said it would use polls from ABC/The Washington Post, Bloomberg News, CBS/The New York Times, CNN,  FOX, Gallup, Marist, McClatchy, Monmouth University,  NBC/The Wall Street Journal, Pew, Quinnipiac, USA Today and Time. 

The network also has other qualifications it is considering, including a candidate having paid staff in two of the four early-voting states.  

Based on calculations for the 11 qualifying polls that have been conducted since July 16 — two of which were conducted since the Fox News debate — the main debate stage would look the same as it did earlier this month. 

As with the Fox News debate, Govs. John Kasich (Ohio) and Chris Christie (N.J.) are tied for the last two spots, with 3.3 percent. 

At 1.6 percent, Fiorina would need to average 5 percent, her best performance to date, for 11 straight polls to rise above the two governors, as long as their percentages did not rise as well. 

Fiorina’s campaign did not return phone calls seeking a reaction to CNN’s methodology. 

Katie Hughes, communications director for the CARLY for America super-PAC supporting Fiorina’s campaign, said the initially low polling numbers were a symptom of the fact that Fiorina isn’t a career politician.

“Carly’s name ID is obviously very low, but one thing that we are seeing even from the very beginning is that the more people learn about Carly, the more people want her in the debates and the more people want her as their commander in chief,” she said.

Hughes added that the super-PAC, which cannot directly coordinate with the campaign, is confident Fiorina’s message will resonate and attract more supporters, but she admitted that the inclusion of older polls is “terrible.” 

“It’s definitely a concern when these polls are used and when the time period is certainly a factor,” she said. 

Michael Traugott, a political science professor at the University of Michigan, told The Hill CNN’s methods will minimize the impact of momentum, especially late shifts in the weeks before the debate. 

“A campaign is a dynamic process by definition, you would want to take care of and account for the most current data,” said Traugott, who previously advised Gallup on its polling. 

Matt Barreto, a political scientist at UCLA and co-founder of the polling firm Latino Decisions, told The Hill that using more polls is a “really good idea,” but that CNN should be weighing polls differently based on methodology and current findings. Buzzfeed News reported Wednesday that Hillary Clinton's Democratic presidential campaign will use Latino Decisions to poll Hispanics.

Praising CNN for including more polls, he lamented that the network is choosing not to weight those polls. “They’ve opened the door for that, but they are not executing,” he said.  

“Certainly, if they are giving equal weight to a poll from July 20 and from Sept. 4, that’s a little bit silly,  because the poll from Sept. 4 is the current pulse of Republican voters,” he said. 

Whether Fiorina would even have a chance to make up for earlier poll numbers is largely out of her control. She and other candidates are at the mercy of pollsters’ schedules, Barreto and other experts said.

It’s unclear how many qualifying polls will be released before CNN's Sept. 10 deadline, and that number will directly affect each candidate's standing.

More early polls making it into the final tally would have a negative impact on businessman Donald Trump and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson more than any other candidates, while cushioning Gov. Scott Walker’s (Wis.) recent slide in the polls. But all of those candidates are already polling high enough that they’ve all essentially punched a ticket to the CNN main stage. 

A more even balance of early and later polls could boost Paul, who was in eighth place as of Wednesday. Through July, he regularly polled between 6 percent and 8 percent, but has dipped to as low as 3 percent since the Fox News debate. An average of the polls CNN will use shows Paul at 5.4 percent, almost 2 percentage points above Kasich and Christie.

“It acts as a drag. It gives a lot of weight to where they started instead of how they are doing more recently,” Zukin, of Rutgers University, said. 

But with more polls yet to come before the CNN debate, Fiorina still has a chance of making the main stage. A strong showing in the polls over the next three weeks could land her in the mix, particularly if either Christie or Kasich falter. 

But a failure to overcome her lackluster early polling would send her to CNN's second-tier debate made up of the qualifying candidates outside of the top 10.  

To many polling experts, it emphasizes a danger of relying on polls to sort candidates who are running extremely close to one another. 

Zukin called the idea of determining rank by polling “perverted,” because polls this early in the election cycle are much more accurate at predicting tiers of candidates than at distinguishing between candidates polling at 2 percent and 3 percent. But he and others lament that polling may be one of the only unbiased ways to gauge the ever-shifting field. 

“It’s certainly a way for news organizations to make choices without their own judgment coming into play, which is a good thing,” he said. 

“Otherwise, you just have media organizations making the decision.”

Accused Child Molester and Obama Bundler to Host VIP Democratic Party Fundraiser

Terry Bean, a former ‘gay porn kingpin’, revered gay rights pioneer and bundler for the 2012 reelection campaign of President Barack Obama, is scheduled to host a “VIP” fundraiser for the Multnomah County, Oregon Democratic Party next month–nine days after the start of his September 1 trial for having sex with a fifteen-year-old boy. Bean faces charges of two felony counts of third-degree sodomy and one misdemeanor count of sexual abuse in the third degree. Prosecutors have alleged in court that Bean has a “history of abusing young boys.”

“A VIP Party will take place on Thursday night, Sept. 10th at 6:30 at the home of Mr. Terry Bean, address to be provided. The Golf Tournament will tee off on Friday morning, Sept. 11th followed by the Banquet and Awards, at Riverside Country Club, NE 33rd, Portland.”

The announcement of the fundraiser came just days after it was reported that Bean, who usually does not donate to the county party, gave $5,000 to the Multnomah Democrats.

Democratic Party officials are standing by Bean in comments made to Portland media.

“Multnomah County Dems spokeswoman Sue Hagmeier says the party is comfortable accepting Bean’s money and hospitality. “He’s a friend of the party,” Hagmeier says. “He’s been accused of something that is a lurid crime, but he’s only been accused, not convicted. If he were convicted, we’d take another look.””

“Sue Hagmeier, the county party’s spokeswoman and a former Portland School Board member, defended accepting Bean’s help while he is under indictment.

“”He is an old friend, and that makes it kind of hard to pile on when he is accused of something — but only accused,” she said.”

Bean, 66, and his former boyfriend Kiah Lawson, 25, were charged last November with having sex with the then fifteen-year-old boy at a Eugene, Oregon motel in 2013.

Jeb Bush Has Everything Except Voter Support

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has everything a presumptive frontrunner needs to secure the Republican nomination except the support of voters.

While his campaign was always expected to be haunted by the lingering legacy of his older brother, his campaign, up to this point, has been plagued by a more fundamental challenge. Bush has yet to offer a compelling reason why he should be President.

Bush’s fundraising has been prodigious and impressive. His campaign, and affiliated SuperPACs, have raised well over $100 million, eclipsing even Hillary Clinton’s war chest. He has gathered endorsements from scores of state and local elected officials. Recently, Utah

endorsed Bush. More elected officials are no doubt waiting in the wings to endorse Bush.

As the scion of the most successful Republican political dynasty in history, Bush has institutional advantages out of reach of other candidates. Half of his donors were past supporters of his father and/or brother in their campaigns for President. Despite these, and nearly universal name ID, his campaign is struggling to connect with voters.

In the latest average of national polls, Bush earns just 10 percent support, less than half the amount of frontrunner Donald Trump. In mid-July, Bush led the Republican field with almost 18 percent, double his nearest rival.

In Iowa, Bush is in 7th place. In New Hampshire, which was expected to be the strongest of the early states for him, he is in 3rd. In South Carolina he is in second, but with almost one-third the support of the frontrunner. Interestingly, the South Carolina polls were taken before the first GOP debate, when the Trump boomlet gathered steam.

Bush’s problems aren’t just an early state phenomenon, each of which have unique quirks. In Pennsylvania, Bush is fifth, with just 6 percent. In Ohio, Jeb is in sixth place, with just 5 percent support. In Arizona, he is in fourth and in Wisconsin, seventh. In North Carolina, he is in third place, behind both Donald Trump and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

Bush currently is even losing the nomination battle in his home state Florida. Trump beats Bush in the Sunshine State by 4 points, 21 percent v. 17 percent. Even though Bush is in second, he isn’t far ahead of either Carson or

Obviously, these are early polls and we are months away from the first votes being cast. The field will narrow and support will be reshuffled among the surviving candidates.

The Hill reports that “[m]ost backers of Bush continue to believe it will all turn out alright. They believe that as the field is winnowed over time, the former Florida governor is far better-positioned to hoover up the voters of those who drop out than is Trump.”

and Mitt Romney secured their nominations. They were conservative-enough and were perceived as having the right tone and sufficient level of nuance in their positions to contest the general election. They each had a more robust campaign infrastructure than any of their opponents and, to some degree, simply outlasted a rather uninspiring field of candidates.

It bears pointing out, though, that each also lost their general election contests.

They each also had, to be fair, a compelling reason they were running. McCain was a war-hero and independent maverick who had a reputation, at that time, for bucking the Republican party when necessary. Romney was a successful businessman, specializing in economic turnarounds, at a time that worries about the economy were foremost on voters’ minds.

It isn’t at clear why Bush is running or what his Presidency would be about beyond it’s become the family business. His very early campaign was dogged by questions about his views on the Iraq War. Inexplicably, he didn’t seem to have firm views on the issue that most defines his brother’s Presidency. Worse, his views have seemingly evolved in real-time throughout this campaign. This is almost beyond belief.

How is a candidate named Bush, running for President, not prepared to address questions about the Iraq War?

The 2016 election is shaping up to be a movement election, in both parties. The hard-left is asserting itself in the Democrat primary, pushing frontrunner Hillary far into the progressive wing of the party. In the Republican primary, conservative voters are so frustrated with national Republican leadership that a third-party challenge is a very real possibility.

The ultimate failure of the Bush campaign so far is that it is completely out of touch with the sentiment of voters. That he is struggling in the polls now isn’t as much a statement about early polling, but a testament to the very steep climb he has with the most loyal Republican voters.

Ironically, while Donald Trump, the current frontrunner, is known to many Americans as a reality-TV star, it is Bush who is employing a reality-tv campaign strategy. Like a successful candidate from Survivor, he is building alliances, keeping a low-profile and hoping to simply outlast everyone else.

Even if it can be a winning strategy, few are ever really satisfied with the result. If he has any hope of winning over voters before November 2016, Bush needs to start giving voters a reason to support him. Another branch on a respectable family tree isn’t cutting it.
