Top Jeb fundraisers leave campaign amid troubling signs

The move comes amid weak poll numbers and concerns that Bush's torrid fundraising pace has slowed.

JebBushStaff_gty.jpg

Three top Jeb Bush fundraisers abruptly parted ways with his presidential campaign on Friday, amid internal personality conflicts and questions about the strength of his candidacy, POLITICO has learned.

There are different versions of what transpired. The Florida-based fundraising consultants — Kris Money, Trey McCarley, and Debbie Aleksander — have said that they voluntarily quit the campaign and were still working with Bush's super PAC, Right to Rise Super PAC. Others said the three, who worked under the same contract, were let go because they were no longer needed for the current phase of the campaign.

None of the three responded to requests for comment. Bush spokesman Tim Miller would only say that “Governor Bush has the widest and deepest fundraising operation of any candidate in the field. Ann Herberger — a longtime aide with more than two decades of experience in state and national politics — will continue to lead the operation in Florida with our team in Miami.”

The departures came at a time of uncertainty for Bush. While he has had massive success raising money for his Super PAC, he is overseeing an official campaign that has many more staffers but far less money. Earlier this week, the New York Times revealed that it had taken steps to rein in some of its spending and had gone so far as to cut some employee salaries. And POLITICO reported one Bush fundraiser expressed concerns about the slowing pace of the campaign’s fundraising after Bush’s shaky debate performance.

The Bush campaign wasted no time seeking a replacement for the three fundraising consultants and has reached out to Meredith O’Rourke – one of Florida’s top Republican fundraisers who briefly worked for Chris Christie’s campaign in May but left it in July. O’Rourke, who wouldn’t comment, helped Gov. Rick Scott raise about $100 million for his 2014 reelection campaign and also works for Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, who’s likely to run for governor in 2018.

One source attributed the departures to personality conflicts in the campaign. Some identified Bush's finance director, Heather Larrison, as a shouter with whom it’s difficult to work. She wouldn’t comment. Others singled out Money as a problem due to what they describe as his haughtiness and his heavy-handed donate-or-else attitude with potential contributors.

“They were glad to go. This wasn’t a shock to anybody,” said one campaign source. “There were just some personality problems. It happens when you have a big organization like this, a big campaign. Some of the national people are tough to work for.”

Another campaign source, though, said the three fundraising consultants – who worked on contract and were not staffers – were let go because they weren’t raising enough money relative to how much they had been raising during the last financial quarter.

"We appreciated their work, but we are entering a new phase of the campaign post Labor Day, and we needed to move in a different direction,” the source said.

But another source disputed that: “They raised a lot of money out of Florida. A lot. So if anyone says they didn’t quit, it’s not true. They’re still working for the super PAC as well. This is not about them…This is about the campaign.”

Frontrunner Donald Trump seized on the POLITICO report Saturday morning and took a shot at his rival on Twitter: “Wow, Jeb Bush just lost three of his top fundraisers - they quit!”

Trump, Carson in close fight in Iowa poll

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and businessman Donald Trump are neck-and-neck for the GOP’s 2016 presidential nomination in Iowa, a new poll says.

The Bloomberg/Des Moines Register survey released on Saturday finds that the two are tied in Iowa caucus-goer support when voters’ first and second choices for the Republican coronation are combined.

Each is the first or second choice of 32 percent of respondents.

Trump won the poll overall, getting 23 percent support. Carson comes in second at 18 percent. The next-closest competitors are Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) at 8 percent each.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush are tied for fifth place with 6 percent support each. After them is Carly Fiorina at 5 percent, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) at 4 percent each.

Tenth place is a three-way tie between Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

“Trump and Carson, one bombastic and the other sometimes soft-spoken, could hardly be more different in their outward presentations,” said J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., who conducted the poll, according to Bloomberg.

“Yet they’re both finding traction because they don’t seem like politicians and there’s a strong demand for that right now,” she added.

Saturday’s poll found that Trump is vastly improving his position in Iowa since launching his presidential campaign in June.

He is now rated favorably by 61 percent of Republican voters there, with 35 percent ranking him unfavorably.

The poll also found that 69 percent of first-time caucus-goers and 73 percent of Tea Party supporters are backing the outspoken billionaire.

It added that 29 percent would never vote for Trump, a number that has is half of what it was in the last Bloomberg/Des Moines Register sampling in May.

The survey found that Carson is buoyed in Iowa by his likable public persona and his vocal Christian faith.

It said that 79 percent likely GOP caucus-goers view the retired neurosurgeon favorably, the highest score in the GOP’s entire 2016 field.

He also leads the hunt for Iowa’s evangelical demographic with 23 percent of their support.

Trump is currently the frontrunner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination across multiple national polls.

The latest RealClearPolitics average of polls has the businessman with 23.5 percent support, and Carson in second place at 10.3 percent.

Exclusive: Trump Calls Club for Growth ‘A Pack of Thieves’

Exclusive: Trump Calls Club for Growth ‘A Pack of Thieves’

Donald Trump
The Associated Press

by Michael Patrick Leahy 29 Aug 20152,469

NASHVILLE, Tennessee–In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, GOP front runner Donald Trump is firing back at the Club for Growth.

“They’re a pack of thieves,” Trump told Breitbart News as he was leaving Nashville’s Rocketown facility. He had just finished delivering a high-energy speech to an overflow crowd of more than 1,000 people.

Trump was attending the annual convention of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, which describes itself as “the grassroots Republican wing of the Republican Party.”

“They [the Club for Growth] came to my office looking for money. I turned them down. That’s why they’re after me,” Trump told Breitbart News.

Earlier in the week, the Club for Growth attacked Trump for his proposal to penalize Ford Motor Company for putting a car manufacturing plant in Mexico rather than Tennessee.

“Donald Trump’s threat to impose new taxes on U.S. car companies will hurt the American economy and cost more American jobs,” David McIntosh, President of the Club for Growth, said in a statement.

“It should thrill liberals and Democrats everywhere that Trump wants to create new taxes and start a trade war to force American companies to work where he demands,” McIntosh added.

Trump stopped specifically to address Breitbart’s question as he moved down the exit aisles surrounded by throngs of supporters.

“I love Breitbart News. This is going to be a good question,” Trump said.

Trump did not pull any punches when asked if he had a message for the Club for Growth in response to its attacks.

Other candidates might shy away from calling out their critics so bluntly as “a pack of thieves,” but for Trump it was just another opportunity to take the battle to the opposition.

Sanders: ‘I can get beyond the noise’ to pass gun rules

Getty Images

Sen. Bernie Sanders is arguing that his record makes him the best qualified presidential candidate to push through new limits on guns.

Despite criticism that the independent Vermonter has been to the right of many liberals on gun rules, Sanders said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that he is best positioned to negotiate new restrictions preventing mentally ill people from acquiring weapons.

“I do not accept the fact that I have been weak on this issue. I have been strong on this issue,” Sanders claimed.

“In fact, coming from a rural state that has almost no gun control, I think I can get beyond the noise and all of these arguments and people shouting at each other and come up with real constructive gun control legislation which, most significantly, gets guns out of the hands of people who should not have them,” he said.

Despite the fact that Sanders is considered among the most liberal Democrats on many issues, he has been more moderate on gun issues

That’s been a vulnerability for the senator — who has come within striking distance of Hillary Clinton in Iowa.

Earlier this summer, a super-PAC supporting former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) chided Sanders for his stance on guns.

This weekend, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) said that Clinton’s position on guns “is a lot more popular than his position” among Democrats.

On Sunday, Sanders trumpeted the fact that he has a “D-minus” lifetime voting record from the National Rifle Association, and has cast difficult votes in opposition to the group.

Iowa pollster: 'We’ve seen everything’ with Trump

A pollster in Iowa said on Sunday that Donald Trump is defying political logic with his 2016 GOP presidential campaign.

Ann Selzer added that Trump is converting skeptics in the Hawkeye State in a way she has never previously encountered.

“A few months ago, he had the highest unfavorable [rating] of anybody,” Selzer said of Trump on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“And people said, ‘Well, he can’t possibly do any better in the horse race because his unfavorable [ratings] are so high,’” said Selzer, president of the Selzer & Company polling firm in Des Moines. “Can you ever really turn those around?”

“I said, ‘You know, we’ve seen everything happen,' ” she told host John Dickerson. “And we’ve certainly seen it happen this time.”

Selzer pointed out her organization’s latest poll as proof that Trump is winning the respect of everyday Iowans.

The new Bloomberg/Des Moines Register sampling released on Saturday has the outspoken billionaire scoring a 61 percent favorability rating.

He earns a 35 unfavorability rating, the survey added, a nearly complete reversal since the last Bloomberg/Des Moines Register sampling in May.

“He now has seven people with higher unfavorable [ratings] than he has, and that includes Jeb Bush,” Selzer said Saturday, referencing the former GOP governor of Florida.

“He has grown his favorability and its turned into votes,” she added of Trump’s fortunes in Iowa.

Saturday’s poll also said that Trump leads the race in Iowa for next year’s GOP presidential nomination with 23 percent support.

The latest RealClearPolitics average of national samplings, meanwhile, also has the New York business mogul ranked first in the Republican field with 23.5 percent.

Christie: Track immigrants the way FedEx tracks packages

To create a system that tracks illegal immigrants in the United States, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wants to look to the way FedEx tracks packages.

Speaking in the early-voting state of New Hampshire, the GOP presidential candidate on Saturday said the United States needs a way to stop losing track of people who enter the country illegally.

"At any moment, FedEx can tell you where that package is. It’s on the truck. It’s at the station. It’s on the airplane," he said, according to NJ.com.

"So here's what I'm going to do as president: I'm going to ask Fred Smith, the founder of Federal Express, to come work for the government for three months at Immigration and Custom Enforcement and show these people,” Christie added.

“We need to have a system that tracks you from the moment you come in, and then when your time is up ... however long your visa is, then we go get you. We tap you on the shoulder and say, 'Thanks for coming. Time to go.' "

The report noted that Christie’s campaign spokeswoman, Samantha Smith, is Fred Smith’s daughter.

Christie said the U.S. has become a “nation of lawlessness” under President Obama.

The New Jersey governor also took an indirect shot at Donald Trump, who has called for building a wall along the southern U.S. border and making Mexico pay for it.

"Please do not think we're going to build a wall across the entire 2,000-mile border," said Christie, who added that he has met with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and did not expect him to pay the estimated $100 billion cost.

Christie added that the recent talk in the GOP presidential primary about repealing the 14th amendment makes Republicans "sound like we’re anti-immigrant.”

“And we're not,” he said. “We want people to do it legally."

VIDEO=> DEMOCRAT Admits That IMMIGRATION Means More DEMOCRAT VOTERS

Democrats love immigration because because they see poor immigrants as nothing more than new Democrat voters but they rarely admit it.

Lincoln Chafee is running for the Democratic Party nomination in 2016. He has no chance of winning it but he did recently admit what many people already know.

Chuck Ross of The Daily Caller:

Democratic Presidential Candidate: More Immigration Means More Democratic Votes

Democratic presidential candidate Lincoln Chafee said Friday that support for increased immigration will result in more votes for the Democratic Party.

“We’re right on immigration,” said the former Rhode Island governor and senator, during the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting in Minneapolis.

“The fastest growing voting bloc in the country,” Chaffee added. “Of course we want that people to be treated with respect and to vote Democratic.”

Failure to Disclose: Jorge Ramos’s Daughter Worked for Obama WH, the Bidens, and OFA, Prior to Joining Hillary’s Campaign

jorge paola

Univision’s Jorge Ramos boasts that he and Univision provide “guidance…on a lot of issues” to Latinos, serving as “activists” and “social leaders“, even claiming the mantle as a Hispanic MLK.  He has aggressively pushed for open borders and full citizenship for illegals, while reciting talking points from Soros-funded American Immigration Council.   Jorge takes an unapologetic stance that Republican candidates for the White House “have to talk to” him and Univision, due to their “power”.  Yet he “tried for months to score an interview with Donald Trump” and failed, so Jorge elected to stage his LatinoLivesMatter style disruption of Trump’s press conference, shouting statements over others, being disruptive, then lying about what occurred, much more like a BLM SJW/activist than a journalist. Could factors beyond activism be in play as well? According to Jorge, in 1983, after facing censorship as a journalist in Mexico, he flew into Los Angeles with a student visa.  Just five years later, his daughter Paola Ramos was born.  Three days after Trump’s campaign announcement, Jorge disclosed that Paola, now 27 years old, had joined Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign for POTUS.  In spite of his statement claiming a desire to maintain integrity, credibility, and transparency, he failed to disclose the larger context and potential import of his revelation, which drew new scrutiny after his questionable behavior. Since reporter Jorge Ramos did not disclose his daughter’s previous political career and the family’s ties to the politically powerful, we are left to assemble the information as best we can. On May 18, 2009, Paola Ramos graduated from Barnard College with a degree in Political Science.  Hillary Rodham Clinton, former First Lady and then sitting Secretary of State, received a Medal of Distinction and delivered the Commencement Address at that ceremony.  One of Hillary’s infamous emails shows that, Hillary had scheduled a “pull aside” with Jorge Ramos’s daughter  immediately upon arrival to campus at 1 PM.  Six years later, Paola’s working for Hillary’s POTUS campaign “in a communications role”.  But some interesting things occur between the two dates. From Paola’s tweets we can tell by Fall 2009, Paola’s working in DC, standing in the Rose Garden as POTUS departs in Marine 1, and she continues to meet some of the most powerful people in (liberal) politics.

By 2011, Paola is working in the Executive Office of the President as the scheduler for Nancy Sutley, the Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. In 2012, Jorge Ramos’s daughter moves into the Office of the Vice President as a staff assistant, then becomes the Special Assistant to Dr. Jill Biden in 2013.

In 2012, Paola also “worked on Obama’s 2012 campaign”, including tweeting Organizing for Action links from Chicago.

The re-election campaign for the sitting President of the United States of America was just three years ago; why didn’t Jorge disclose Paola’s work for Obama? Of note, Jorge has stated that he felt “deeply conflicted” about becoming a US citizen, but:

In 2008, he became a U.S. citizen so he could vote in the historic election, but he remains adamant that he is not truly American. (He wouldn’t reveal for whom he voted, saying he’s a political independent.)Washington Monthly

In 2013, Paola meets with constituents, representing Joe Biden’s office as part of “the White House team”.

Donald Trump’s Rise Is Directly Linked to Obama’s Destruction of American Society

Another law enforcement officer was shot dead this weekend execution style.
Harris County Sheriff Deputy and Killer ABC13
Texas Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth was shot dead this weekend while pumping gas into his squad car.

Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke placed the blame for the execution of Harris County deputy Darren Goforth squarely upon President Barack Obama and former Attorney General Eric Holder.

Obama has waged a war on police and civility for over a year now.

The Democratic Party under Obama refuses to call Islamists ‘terrorists.’ This same party uses outrageous comparisons when discussing Republicans.

The Obama Foreign Policy Doctrine includes building a Caliphate in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Afghanistan.

Obama is the worst jobs president since the Great Depression.

But you would know none of this if you relied on the mainstream media.

The media has been shielding Barack Obama for years.

Reader Dan from New York City writes—

Pity the clueless JournoList community. They are trapped in a snare of their own making.

Their fraternity members are so myopic they don’t know why Trump has shot to the top – and is still defying gravity. But most normal people understand the media has become poison and they see Trump as the antidote. Seven years of running interference for America’s most destructive president will naturally have that effect on a lot of American people. So the more the MSM attack him, and Trump ignores or keeps making fools of them, the more Trump’s star will keep rising.

How high? Only Heaven knows. But if you have a problem with my analysis, why not ask Roger Ailes and Megyn Kelly, or Br’er Rabbit for that matter.

Illegal Immigrant Leads ‘Pledge Of Allegiance’ At DNC Summer Meeting [VIDEO]

The Democratic party continued its aggressive push to appeal to Hispanic voters at its summer meeting in Minneapolis on Friday by inviting a DREAMer to lead the confab in the “Pledge of Allegiance.”

DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz introduced Karen Guadalupe Velez-Barron, who was brought to the U.S. by her parents from Mexico when she was three years old. She was granted amnesty under President Obama’s 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals executive order.

Democrats have steadily increased calls for comprehensive immigration reform. Early speakers at Friday’s event focused heavily on the cause, differentiating the party from Republicans who generally oppose amnesty.

Hillary Clinton, who is slated to speak at the DNC meeting on Friday, has proposed expanding on the Obama administration’s liberal immigration policies.

“We are the party that stands with students like the beautiful young woman who delivered our Pledge of Allegiance this morning,” Wasserman Schultz said.

“Karen is a DREAMer who like so many of her brothers and sisters seeks stability, a quality education and access to the American Dream. And we will, as a party, make sure that she and her sisters and brothers are not denied access to that American Dream.”
