Trump, who is leading in the polls for the Republican nomination, blasted out a series of tweets amid mounting criticism that he did not cut off an event attendee who questioned President Obama’s citizenship and religion.

  

If the roles were reversed, Trump predicted Obama would not come to his defense.

Trump received plenty of blowback Friday after he failed to shut down a supporter in New Hampshire who alleged Obama is a Muslim, as well as not an American. The questioner added that “we have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That’s my question, when can we get rid of them?”

Many have said Trump should have followed the lead of 2008 GOP presidential nominee John McCain, who cut off a woman who made similar comments about Obama during that election. But Trump has a history with the birther movement, fueling questions about Obama’s citizenship during the 2012 election, which eventually spurred Obama to release his long-form birth certificate to end any doubt that he was born in Hawaii in 1961.

The White House said the exchange wasn’t surprising given Trump’s history.

Even rival GOP candidate Jeb Bush came to Obama’s defense in a speech Friday night in Michigan.

"Barack Obama is a talented man — and by the way he's an American, he's a Christian — his problem isn't the fact that he was born here or what his faith is," Bush said, according to reports. "His problem is that he's a progressive liberal who tears down anybody that disagrees with him."

Black Lives Matter will not endorse in 2016

The cofounder of the Black Lives Matter movement said the network would not endorse a presidential candidate in 2016. 

Alicia Garza, who describes herself as the network’s co-creator and a director with the National Domestic Workers Alliance, told The Associated Press, “that’s not work we’re engaged in yet.”

"Black Lives Matter as a network will not, does not, has not, ain't going to endorse any candidates," she told the news service. "Now if there are activists within the movement that want to do that independently, they should feel free and if that's what makes sense for their local conditions, that's fantastic. But as a network, that's not work we're engaged in yet."

Garza said that the network could become more involved with candidates in the future but “we’re not there yet.”

"What we've seen is an attempt by mainstream politics and politicians to co-opt movements that galvanize people in order for them to move closer to their own goals and objectives," she said. "We don't think that playing a corrupt game is going to bring change and make black lives matter."

She said the network would forge ahead with protests at campaign stops. Stump speeches for Democratic nominees like Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley have been interrupted by the chants in the past. Others have engaged with Hillary Clinton on the trail. 

“Sometimes you have to put a wrench in the gears to get people to listen," she said. 

The movement gaining national attention after the police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., last year but traces its origins to the Florida killing of Trayvon Martin in 2012. The movement’s slogan has become widely used, inside and out of the original network founded by Garza and others.

Top-Ranking DEA Official Signals Support For Donald Trump’s Proposed Border Wall

Jack Riley, the No. 2 at the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), signaled support for Donald Trump’s proposal to build a wall along the Southern border in a recent interview centered on hunting down Mexican drug cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

In an exclusive interview with Yahoo News, the acting deputy administrator at the Obama administration’s DEA agency, discussed why the U.S. government is invested in hunting escaped convict El Chapo, the leader of Mexico’s brutal Sinaloa cartel.

Riley explained why El Chapo and his murderous criminal empire are a threat to the United States.

The Sinaloa cartel has been dubbed the world’s biggest drug trafficking organization.

It is behind a heroin epidemic in the United States that is causing a rise in murders and overdose deaths, reports Yahoo News.

For Riley, who was once the target of an assassination plot by henchmen working for his personal nemesis El Chapo, hunting the Sinaloa cartel boss is personal.

“Just so you know, I was going to retire — until this dick escaped,” Riley told Yahoo News, later adding, “I’m in it for the long haul.”

El Chapo escaped from Mexico’s Altiplano maximum-security prison in July. The prison break is the second in Mexico for Guzman, who fled a different maximum-security facility in 2001.

El Chapo’s Sinaloa cartel is reportedly the source of much of the heroin trafficked into the United States.

Yahoo News asked Riley whether or not Trump’s presidential campaign promise to build a wall along the Southwest border would make a difference.

“I’m all for anything that would make a difference in stopping criminals and the flow of drugs. I’m a cop. Whatever the policymakers decide, I’ll work with,” responded Riley, signaling support for Trump’s immigration proposal.

When asked if the U.S. government was doing enough to stem illegal cross-border activity, Riley said, “When you look at the relationships between street gangs and these people — wow. And then you throw in the supply of illegal guns, I don’t know. It’s tough.”

Yahoo News noted that Riley recently told U.S. lawmakers that heroin seizures along the Southwest border had more than doubled in the last five years. The DEA official also said that the loads of heroin pouring into the U.S. had increased significantly.

Yahoo News asked Riley to discuss how the heroin is getting into the U.S.

‘Virtually anyway you can imagine — from an 18-wheeler to inside a gas tank on a mobile home to a guy doing a backstroke in the Rio Grande with a backpack,” responded the DEA’s No. 2.  Sinaloa probably has the best financed research and development of any so-called corporation in the world. Whatever they come up with, they’re going to try.”

In his immigration reform plan, Trump proposes building a wall along the Southwest border and having Mexico pay for it. He also vows to deport illegal immigrant gang members.

Trump is the leading presidential candidate of the Republican party. Critics of Trump’s border wall proposal argue that it will be ineffective and too costly to build and maintain.

The DEA is a component of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

Poll: Rand Paul wins Michigan Straw Poll, Carly Fiorina Comes in Second

won the 31st biannual presidential straw poll at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference (MRLC) on Saturday.

Paul delivered the keynote speech prior to the straw poll results being announced.

Paul’s campaign said that the MRLC straw poll is the largest pre-caucus poll since the cancellation of the Iowa Straw Poll.

“Since established in 1953 by the Michigan Republican Party, the MRLC straw poll has been considered a gauge of where the grassroots and party leaders are leaning with regard to the presidential race. The straw poll was previously won by Gov. Mitt Romney in 2011,” noted Paul’s campaign in a press release.

John Yob, a political strategist supporting Paul, posted on Twitter, “In 2007 the overperformance of

at Mackinac was the beginning of the McCain comeback that ended with the primary nomination.”

Yob added, “Mitt Romney won Michigan in 2008 and 2012 after winning Mackinac in 2007 and 2011.”

Paul responded to the results:

It is an honor to win the MRLC straw poll as it is voted on by the most influential Michigan GOP members, grassroots leaders and party activists from throughout the country. I believe that the future is bright for our party, but we must not dilute our message. We must be boldly for conservative principles like balancing the budget, restraining the powers of the federal government, and passing term limits to get rid of the career politicians in both parties.

He concluded, “I will continue to be a leader on these issues in the hopes of defeating the Washington Machine and unleashing the American Dream.”

A local NBC report stated Cruz, Kasich, Fiorina and Paul spoke Saturday at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush spoke Friday at the event. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker canceled his appearance due to a flight cancelation because of weather and finished 9th in the event’s straw poll with 2.5 percent.

YouGov Poll: 92 Percent Of Americans Agree With Donald Trump On This Issue

A new YouGov poll released this week may have just pinpointed the key to Donald Trump’s baffling success.

The GOP frontrunner has managed to grow his lead in spite of a clearcut lack of political correctness, diverging with his party on many key issues, and serving as a thorn in the side to many establishment candidates as well as mainstream media personalities.

He speaks off the cuff, doesn’t apologize, and promises to “Make America Great Again.” But it’s not any of these points that seem to have captivated the American public.

No, the YouGov poll indicates that Trump’s ongoing popularity could be due to one key issue: illegal immigration. According to the polling group, an astounding 92 percent of Americans believe that illegal immigration is a problem, with around 75 percent of those respondents calling it a “serious” issue.

With results like that, it’s not quite so surprising that a candidate that supports building a wall along the southern border of the United States and deporting all undocumented immigrants would stay afloat even as a mountain of negative press and pieces like this one from the Washington Post permeate following the second GOP debate.

But before getting too carried away, it’s also important to note from the YouGov poll that around 52 percent of the 1,000 respondents also backed a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

That is not something Trump favors, though he has proposed a plan for expediting “the good ones” back into the United States at the border.

Along with this number, 61 percent of Americans don’t believe that it’s possible to deport the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants living and working in the U.S.

And while Donald Trump can propose that’s what he would do all day long, it won’t necessarily translate to votes if he can’t get the 75 percent to buy in to its plausibility.

Even so, other polls have shown that “the Donald” continues to do well, even after contentious debates like the CNN-hosted event on Sept. 16, in which an array of Republican candidates ganged up on his plans and his lack of policy specifics.
