Campaigns seek to poach Walker donors, staff

Getty Images
Now that Scott Walker has quit the presidential race, a new race has begun: to recruit his millionaire and billionaire donors who have already put at least $20 million into the pro-Walker super-PAC Unintimidated.

Conversations with two major Walker donors suggests that they, and perhaps others, are going to wait a while before deciding to which candidate they want to send significant amounts of money.

The most sought-after prizes for Republican candidates still in the race will be Nebraska billionaires Joe and Marlene Ricketts, who had already given Walker's super-PAC at least $5 million, and Wisconsin roofing billionaire Diane Hendricks who gave Walker's Unintimidated PAC a further $5 million.

The Ricketts family has already sent $10,000 apiece to super-PACs supporting former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, and Sen. Lindsey Graham, according to the mid-year FEC reports. But it is not yet clear who their second choice is behind Walker.

Stanley Hubbard, a Minnesota billionaire who has already given $50,000 to Walker's super-PAC said he and his wife would now put their money behind one of four people: Carly Fiorina, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie or Carson.

"But we are not going to be jumping right into another super-PAC," Hubbard said. "We're going to wait and see what happens."

Another of Walker's super-PAC donors said he wanted to support a candidate that had Walker's record of being "fiscally conservative" but was not extreme on social issues. The donor said he could not believe it when he heard outsider candidate Ben Carson say on Sunday's Meet the Press program that he would not advocate having a Muslim president.

"That's really out there on the fringe," the donor said. But he said he wanted to wait and see "how things shake out" before deciding which candidate to invest in.

Austin Barbour understands the situation Walker's supporters face. He was a senior adviser for the super-PACs supporting former Texas Gov. Rick Perry. The pro-Perry independent groups had attracted major Texas money and had some $13 million in the bank when Perry quit the race on the afternoon of Sep. 11.

Barbour, who knows the U.S. political fundraising landscape as well as any GOP operative, said he thinks Walker's big donors will be "divided up" but may sit on the sidelines a while before committing to anybody.

"I think they are going to get split up between Jeb, Rubio, Carly, some to Christie and Kasich," Barbour said Monday. "They'll be divided... but I'm sure most of them will go to that list."

Regarding the Perry donors who are now looking for new candidates to support, Barbour said most were "keeping their powder dry" and may wait weeks or even months before finally deciding who to support with all their resources.

"The ones that I have talked to... they want to wait and see. They like Rubio, Bush, and Carly," Barbour added. "They are going to wait and see but those are the names I hear most often."

Walker's exit from the race "really is amazing" but in many ways remindsBarbour of what happened to Perry — another successful Republican governor.

"Here's what the reality is for a campaign," Barbour said. "What the Walker campaign saw was three or four weeks, at least three weeks, of bad news reports of Governor Walker having to let go of staff.

"Think about how bad that story would have been."

The Walker campaign could have "hunkered down" in Iowa but the combination of sustained bad news reports, plunging polls and perhaps problems with the campaign's bank account - revealed for all to see in the next quarterly results unveiled on Oct. 15 - would have been a difficult set of circumstances to overcome, he said.

While donors look at other campaigns, those campaigns are looking at who they can recruit from Walker's organization.

Richard Graber, the former Wisconsin GOP chairman, joined former Gov. Jeb Bush's (R-Fla.) soon after Walker's announcement, aides confirmed.

Terry Sullivan, the campaign manager for Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) presidential bid said Monday that Walker's New Hampshire state co-chair will switch his endorsement to Rubio, which the campaign later confirmed is former state party vice-chairman Cliff Hurst.

"We are prepared as people move on in the race to capitalize on that," he said at an event in Washington for presidential campaign managers. He did not clarify which of the three Walker New Hampshire co-chairs was switching over.

Rubio is picking up more support as well.

Drew Johnson, South Carolina Executive Committeeman from Chester County, who was an early supporter of Walker, said in a statement Monday evening that he will now support Rubio.

“After great thought, I’ve decided to support Marco Rubio for President. Marco has a positive vision for a New American Century and he is the candidate who gives our party the best opportunity to defeat Hillary Clinton in 2016. Marco has my complete support and I look forward to helping him win South Carolina’s primary in February.”

Rubio also picked up three of Walker’s Iowa county chairs and two members of his leadership team in the Hawkeye State.

The Rubio campaign said late Monday that Lee County chairwoman Melody Slater, Dubuque County chairman Matt Geise, Sac County chairman Caleb Hedeen, Muscataine County leader Alan Ostergren, and Iowa Students for Walker co-chairwoman Brittany Gaura, have all moved over to Rubio.

SURPRISE! Bernie Sanders is Being Supported by OCCUPY WALL STREET

Back in 2011, Occupy Wall Street protesters took over and destroyed public spaces all over the country. Today, they’re rallying around Socialist Democrat Bernie Sanders.

Note how this report from the Guardian makes no mention of the rapes, thefts, destruction of property or other crimes committed by the OWS movement:

Former Occupy Wall Street protesters rally around Bernie Sanders campaign

On 17 September 2011 a group of protesters occupied Wall Street. Their unpolished campaign sought to draw attention to financial inequality. To healthcare issues. And to the problem of student debt.

If that sounds familiar, it is because four years on, Bernie Sanders’ own campaign has highlighted many of the same grievances. It is no coincidence. In 2015 many of the protesters who cut their teeth in the Occupy encampments are now campaigning for the Democratic candidate.

“There’s 50 million people who are impoverished here in America,” said Stan Williams, an Occupy Wall Street stalwart who is now co-organiser of African Americans for Bernie.

“He talks about the 99%. He talks about the 1%. So a lot of the things he talks about resonate with me.”

It’s funny how no one in the American media is asking Bernie Sanders to comment on all of the crimes that took place during the Occupy protests, isn’t it?

Of course a communist movement is going to back a communist. That is a no brainer.

Zogby Poll: Trump Widens Lead After GOP Debate

Real estate mogul Trump has widened his lead to 20 points in a brand new Zogby Analytics poll taken after the second Republican presidential debate. The new poll of 405 likely Republican primary/caucus voters nationwide with a margin of sampling error of +/- 5.0 percentage points, conducted September 18-19, shows Mr. Trump with 33% (up 2 points from his pre-debate 31%). In second place is neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson who actually dropped 3 points to 13%. Former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, widely considered to be the big winner in the debate, moved up from just 2% last week to 7% and fourth place in the new poll – just 2 points behind former Florida Governor Jeb Bush’s 9% (which is exactly where he was last week).

Texas Senator Ted Cruz moves up a point to 5%, followed by Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, and Ohio Governor John Kasich all tied at 4%. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who by many accounts, had a good debate night, stayed at 3%.

The biggest losers in the post-debate poll – besides Dr. Carson’s drop – were Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker who fell from 5% to 2% and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee who polled 2% (down from 4%).

Mr. Trump’s lead is across the board, among most major sub-groups – 36% among men, 30% with women, 30% Republicans, 39% independents, 29% moderates, and 31% conservatives.

Dr. Carson’s best showings were among Republicans 14%, and conservatives 16%. Mrs. Fiorina did better among men (9%) than women (5%) and Republicans 8% than independents (5%). Mr. Bush scored 10% with women, 8% with men, 12% moderates, but just 6% among conservatives.

The poll was conducted in the middle of controversies regarding negative attitudes toward Muslims expressed by both Mr. Trump and Dr. Carson. Mrs. Fiorina gained the most traction from the debate but no one besides Mr. Trump has broken away from the pack.

Donald is keeping his lead.

Dr. Ben Carson: President Should Be ‘Sworn in on a Stack of Bibles, Not a Koran’

From Jonathan Easley writing at The Hill:

Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson is standing by his view that a Muslim should not be president of the United States, telling The Hill in an interview on Sunday that whoever takes the White House should be “sworn in on a stack of Bibles, not a Koran.”

Carson ignited a media firestorm in a Sunday morning interview with Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press,” in which he said he “would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation.”

“I absolutely would not agree with that,” Carson said.

In an interview with The Hill, Carson opened up about why he believes a Muslim would be unfit to serve as commander in chief.

“I do not believe Sharia is consistent with the Constitution of this country,” Carson said. “Muslims feel that their religion is very much a part of your public life and what you do as a public official, and that’s inconsistent with our principles and our Constitution.”

EXCLUSIVE: Ted Cruz Campaign Reacts to Scott Walker’s Advice ‘Clear the Field’

GOP presidential candidate

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
96%

’s (R-TX) Chief Strategist Jason Johnson spoke exclusively to Breitbart News after Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker suspended his campaign and encouraged other candidates to do the same to “clear the field.”

“The laws of political reality tend to dictate these things, and that’s primarily each campaign’s fundraising and their ability to manage … the money that donors have given them,” Johnson explained.

He added that each candidate’s support among voters is also part of the laws of political reality.

“I can tell you for the Ted Cruz campaign, we will continue to charge ahead and spread the message that there’s only one candidate in this race with a proven record of standing up to the leadership of both parties when they’re out of step with the American people and specially the leadership of both parties in Washington, D.C., which is the source of the problem,” he added.

Walker decided to end his presidential campaign in order to “clear the field in this race” on Monday, adding, “I encourage other presidential candidates to do the same.”

“All candidates who are still in the race, candidates who have recently dropped out are obviously there – Gov. Perry and Gov. Walker both – have great records within their states and have every right to offer advice, but more than advice from any particular candidate or former candidate is going to be the laws of political reality,” Johnson concluded.

Yeah I am thinking Cruz will be in for awhile. He is doing fairly well.

Boston Globe Slams Hillary Clinton’s Inability To Show Empathy To Voters

hillaryugly.jpg

A Boston Globe reporter attended a Hillary Clinton campaign event in New Hampshire and wrote an absolutely merciless take down of Clinton.

The article centers around Clinton’s inability to show empathy by using the story of a woman who spoke about her son’s suicide at the event.

The woman tearfully explained her son’s struggle with mental illness and his eventual suicide. The reporter says the entire room was visibly affected by the gut-wrenching story. But Hillary? Not so much:

Hillary Clinton physically backed up closer to a wall as she listened and nodded. When the woman finished her story, the leading Democratic presidential contender retrieved a microphone, turned away, and began asking another panelist to respond.

Then she stopped herself. ‘I’m very sorry,’ said Clinton, who followed with a bland observation. ‘We’re not doing enough on mental health treatment.’

No real show of compassion. No hug or even a touch on the hand.

She has alot of blood on her hands from the Benghazi fiasco. She has shown over and over she has no empathy.

She is evil to the core.

Hillary Clinton Viewed Negatively By MAJORITY of New Yorkers

Wow! Even New Yorkers can’t stand her.
For the first time ever, a majority of New York state registered voters view Hillary Clinton negatively. 51% of registered New Yorkers have an unfavorable opinion of the former New York Senator and Secretary of State.
Hillary Rodham Clinton

Siena.edu reported:

Hillary Clinton is viewed unfavorably by more New Yorkers (51 percent) than those who have a favorable view of her (46 percent) for the first time ever, down from 56-40 percent positive in July, according to a new Siena College poll of New York State registered voters released today. While a majority of Democrats say that Vice President Joe Biden should run for President, in a potential primary matchup Clinton is supported by 45 percent of Democrats, compared to 24 percent for Biden and 23 percent for Senator Bernie Sanders.

Donald Trump leads the Republican primary field with 34 percent support, followed by Ben Carson (14 percent) and Jeb Bush (11 percent) and everyone else in single digits. Although Trump is viewed favorably by 60 percent of Republicans – the highest of any of the candidates – he is viewed unfavorably by 65 percent of all New York voters, also the highest of any candidate.

“For the first time ever, Hillary Clinton is under water with New York voters, facing her worst favorability rating ever in her adopted home state. Her favorability rating has seen a net drop of 21 points since July,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

“While still overwhelmingly popular with Democrats, 70-27 percent, Clinton is viewed unfavorably by 86 percent of Republicans and 65 percent of independents. She is viewed unfavorably by at least 60 percent of all upstate and downstate suburban voters, as well as among men and white voters,” Greenberg said.
