Iconic Conservatives Unite To Support “Best Conservative Candidate Since Ronald Reagan”

Fifty-six years ago, 90 members of the newly minted Young Americans for Freedom group signed the Sharon Statement at William F. Buckley’s home, thus paving the way for Ronald Reagan to become president in 1981.

According to Breitbart, this band of iconic conservatives has once again united for a shared goal — the latest one being to propel Sen. Ted Cruz into the White House.

“Ted Cruz is the best conservative candidate since Ronald Reagan,” 82-year-old Richard Viguerie, the former executive director of YAF, opined. “He’s what we’ve waited for ever since Reagan. He checks all our boxes.”

Morton Blackwell, 76 and another former member of the YAF, concurred, arguing that Cruz “has consistently demonstrated his deep commitment to conservative principles.”

These men certainly know what conservatism means; the Sharon Statement they helped craft 56 years ago contained within it a listing of core conservative principles that still remain relevant to this day — even to foreign leaders like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Among those principles are the following: Free will and moral authority come from God; political and economic liberty are essential for a free people and free institutions; government must be strictly and constitutionally limited; the market economy is the economic system most compatible with freedom; and Communism must be defeated, not merely contained,” the Heritage Foundation explained.

These legendary men basically laid the foundation for contemporary conservatism, and as such, they understand what type of candidate Americans need to elect into office this year.

“He has a lot of the appeal Reagan had to Democrats on economic, national security, and cultural issues,” Viguerie adding, noting the potential Cruz has to draw Democrats to his side.

In agreement with Viguerie and Blackwell about Cruz being the best candidate was Brent Bozell III, founder of the Media Research Center and nephew of William F. Buckley.

“The more this plays itself out, the more it is being established that Cruz is the real conservative and Donald Trump is a charlatan,” he said in regard to Cruz’s key challenger.

Those were definitely fighting words, and it will be very interesting to see how Cruz’s bombastic opponent chooses to respond to Bozell and his iconic peers.
