Hm..................................some distinctions need be made to make some sense of this latest Arab fandango.

* The Ottoman "Caliphate" shared little w/the Umayyids and the Abbasids, its predecessor Caliphates. The latter was at its core, a temporal rather than a spiritual governing entity ruled by a Sultan. As for restoring the Ottoman Empire, this is fantasist malarkey as it would require the reconquest of numerous nations in the Balkans and North Africa.

* As for the claim that Turkey is an important ally of the USA and Europe, Lord Palmerston's words are instructive; " Great nations have neither allies nor friends; they simply have interests." As long as Erdogan remains, they are our enemy but this is beyond the likes of Obama.

* Following the Great War, Mustapha Kemal Pasha (Ataturk), the commander and catalyst for the Turkish victory at Gallipoli in 1915, came to power. Being educated in Prussia pre-war, he internalized the reality that Islam was retarding Turkey's ability to enter the 20th century. It was he who secularized the nation and there remains strong support for his reforms despite media bullshit to the contrary and schmucks like Barack Obama.

Yesterday was the opening act. We shall see how this plays out.

We shall see is right. There is so much involved in this whole deal. Obama will not handle it right. That he has shown us. I am sure ISIS is loving the turmoil in Turkey. We may need a bold new approach to defeating ISIS...It may just take a surge of Troops to do it...I am against it ,but Realize it may have to be done.Maybe Trump will force other so called allies to pick up their share of the responsibility...Like Trump says we can always walk.
