“The Hayden Collins Radio Program” writer contributes to Pulitzer Prize-winning history Laura Voisin George, one of the writers for “The Hayden Collins Radio Program”, has been researching the history of Morven, an estate located near Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia. Jefferson purchased the Morven property in 1795 as an investment for his protégé William Short, who was on a diplomatic mission in Europe. In 2001, the Morven estate was given to the University of Virginia and Laura Voisin George served as Morven’s Director of Research in 2010-2012, and brought updates about this research to the radio show.

Laura also contributed her expertise to the research about slaves at Morven and their resistance to being enslaved, being done by historian Alan Taylor for his 2013 book The Internal Enemy: Slavery and War in Virginia, 1771-1832. Last month this book was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in history for Taylor’s “meticulous and insightful account of why runaway slaves in the colonial era were drawn to the British side as potential liberators.” Taylor is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation Chair in the Corcoran Department of History at the University of Virginia.

Currently, Laura Voisin George is an adjunct professor in the Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California.

“The Hayden Collins Radio Program” serves up a weekly slice of political commentary with a North Georgia sense of humor. Based in Cartersville, Georgia, Hayden Collins talks with local college students and correspondents from universities across the country, bringing the perspectives of the Next Generation to national issues and global events, and how they affect our future. A Conservative Republican, veteran, and businessman, Hayden’s voice of reason challenges the “business as usual” of established political interests, and calls for leadership that can bridge the gap and offer engaging and innovative solutions for a better future.
