Citizens Dedicated To Preserving Our Constitutional Republic

At the Memorial Day commemoration at the National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, I served as the officer-in-charge, wearing my dress blue uniform.  This uniform, as well as those of the other soldiers and veterans reminded us – as did the honor guard firing three rifle volleys and the buglers playing “Taps” – of the selfless individuals that once stood beside us; and as officers, of the men who stood before us, in combat as well as in ceremonies. This uniform not only represents them, but everyone who has ever served.  And we always strive to not bring shame to that uniform, but honor, dignity, and respect.

At this ceremony I stood with Gold Star women.  For those who don’t know what Gold Star women are, they are the widows of those who died in service. For most of us, this remembrance comes once a year to remind us, but those that have lost loved ones are reminded every day.  There are those who will never reach this understanding, and for others it will be all too easy.  But it’s important for those who do understand, and for those who will always remember.  We can’t forget, we can’t leave them behind.

In combat. as well as in ceremonies, and in our daily lives, we must always serve with honor and dignity, because we are charged with the memory of everyone who has served before us.  Do not fail in your charge.  Remember this day.

Remember, remember, remember.
