Citizens Dedicated To Preserving Our Constitutional Republic
MEMORIAL DAY 2017
I just read an e-mail from one of my online friends describing how a town in Holland, called Valkenburg, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands_American_Cemetery) honors American war dead of World War II. They honor them EVERY DAY, not just one day a year. Graves are tended by families who adopted the fallen soldiers in 1945 and pass the responsibility down to future generations as a way of honoring foreigners who gave their lives to free Holland from Nazi oppression. I have pasted the text of the e-mail below so you can read it for yourself. I hope it affects each reader as it affected me, reminding me of how much some have given for the cause of liberty.

I am now officially a fan of Holland...
“A coin left on a headstone lets the deceased soldier’s family know that somebody stopped by to pay their respect. Leaving a penny means you visited. A nickel means that you and the deceased soldier trained at boot camp together. If you served with the soldier, you leave a dime. A quarter is very significant because it means that you were there when that soldier died”.
Funny you say that. Some in my family leave coins on the graves of our relatives head stones to show visitation. When I see that there are coins there that were left by someone else. It gives me a very good feeling....PS...My mother and father were married during WW2 in Bath England. She was a British nurse. I have a very interesting story behind the beginnings of the my family...I was very blessed for sure..
Interesting, I had not heard of this.
Bob if I got started I wouldn`t be able to stop. And it would sound like I am making it up ,or over stating things. I have thought about doing a book because my Family story would be interesting and heart warming. Not to say we never had bad times because that is far from truth.I really rather not go into depth on this forum. I appreciate the interest...But I will say this piece of fact that can be googled I think. My mother was on the first plane load of British War Brides set to come to US. After take off a major storm forced them to turn back. This became a major story in the States and England. After a few days they came , and upon Landing my mothers picture was taken coming down the stairs from the plane..She had my oldest brother in her arms. This picture was plastered over cover pages of many huge news papers. This at the time was a big story and my mother became the face of the story. We lived in small town upstate NY. Christine Kiernan was famous and a huge hit My Mom was a gracious warm person who made everyone comfortable in her presence. The whole damn county came to town in hopes of bumping into her....Bob ,I could go on and on. But I will spare you all from me becoming over cooked in self glorification.
Kevin, I sent you a friend request. I am interested in hearing the story of your family and will message my e-mail once we are friends.
